When Pyrex first sent me its magnetic measuring spoon set a few years ago, I didn't realize exactly how revolutionary the product was. But two years later, all of my other measuring items are scattered, while the Pyrex ones can be found together in a neat little nest. Hallelujah!

True, I mixed everything by hand until I got my mixer. I need to get a good size food processor. I just have a small chopper that I use, but I can't do large batches of stuff. But, if you had a mixer you could get the attachment for some things to eliminate the need of other appliances. For example, I have the citrus juicer attachment for my mixer, so no need to get a citrus squeezer :)

I haven't bought a citrus squeezer yet and a new blender, the motor couldn't handle making corn pudding (I bought a food processor after that)

I think I would really enjoy a rice steamer. I've been trying to get away from the ziploc bags by using recycled resealable containers or just a little bit of aluminum foil. I'm surprised nobody mentioned an immersion blender, yet. I <3 mine!

I couldn't live without my food processor either! And I agree with YumSugar about the mixer: I do most things by hand, and it rarely takes too long. But the ziploc bags? The environmentalist in me squirms. Marinating is easy in a bowl covered by a towel, and I wash and re-use non-recyclable plastics (like #5 yogurt/cottage cheese containers) for leftovers storage. I've heard its easy to wash and re-use plastic bags as well, it just requires patience for them to dry on the rack, since you need to wait a while and turn them inside out. else411, on the finale of Top Chef DC, Michael Voltaggio referred to tongs as "white trash tongs." I later found out from an industry vet that Voltaggio probably called them that because the use of tongs isn't permitted in fine dining kitchens. SmileyFace, I love mixers too...but you'd be surprised how much mixing you can do 1) by hand or 2) in a food processor!
