Would it be Mardi Gras without a decadent King's Cake? How about if the King's Cake didn't have a baby in it? — Never Bashful with Butter

We just got one sent to us by one of our customers. It so sweet I can't stand it.
1My sister threw a Mardi Gras-themed 30th birthday party for her husband a couple of years ago and she had a king's cake. I'd never heard of this tradition before that, but I thought it was funny! My husband was the one who had the baby in his slice!
2I know a few people who have done this.
3The King's Cake is fun, but I don't like it. Too sweet, as pklotus mentioned.
4Very sweet.
5It is very sweet but there is a doughnut shop here (in Louisiana) that makes them with all kinds of fillings (cream cheese is my fave) and it is not to sweet that you can't eat it.
6Over the Christmas holidays I helped a bakery make the Spanish version of King's Cake, Roscone de Reyes. It was so much fun!
7I brought one to work today to celebrate and most of the people here haven't ever had one. They are totally missing out. Mine is filled with cream cheese and walnuts. It's pretty tasty and not too icky sweet. Along the Gulf Coat you can get them with sweet filling like pecans and caramel or savory filling like crawfish!
8We had one in my Roots of Southern Culture class I took for my folk studies minor. It was the first time I'd ever had one! Maybe I'll get lucky and someone will have one at work.
9My son asked me this morning where our King Cake was. OOOPS! Forgot to order one this year. We get ours delivered from here: www.haydelbakery.com which is my BF's favorite since he grew up in New Orleans.
10Ordering is so expensive! I baked 2 last night. One for me to bring to work and one for my husband to take. I filled it with cream cheese and it's so yum!
11YAY NEW ORLEANS!!! YAY MARDI GRAS!!! this is my first time to miss mardi gras as i go to school elsewhere now...so sad. luckily my dad sent me a King Cake. The best king cake in new orleans was from McKenzie's bakery but they shut down... Tasty Donut's has their recipe and its delicious!!!!
12My sister lives in New Orleans and sent me a King's Cake once--stuffed with coconut. Oh it was so sweet but so good! I kept the baby inside. It was precious!
13King cake. not king's cake.
My favorite king cake comes from a bakery in my home town in Mandeville (suburb north of New Orleans). Yummy. Have about two pieces left. This year's Mardi Gras was way too early we only ate two king cakes this year.
Too sweet? you are all kidding right?
14My mom picked up a king cake at a local bakery. It looks JUST like the one in that picture! Very tasty too. =]
15I always order ours, too, except oops I forgot because it was so early this year. My kids were sad, they normally get a big fancy box with a cake (we do cream cheese filling) cups, and party favors. My oldest actually asked me where "their" package was.... I'm going to run to a local bakrey and get one in a bit
16Looks yummy
17To make a REALLY simple King Cake you can use the pillsbury cinnamon rolls!
Take a roll or two of them and 3-4 at a time, pull them apart and mush them together into a ball, then flatten them into a rectangular sheet of dough. Transfer it to a cookie sheet and fill it with a cream cheese and powdered sugar mixture. Make a flat circle with the dough, then once it is all filled, go around and pinch the edges together, making a tube shape with the cream cheese inside. You can dye the icing that comes with the rolls to make it mardi gras colors. After you bake it, top it with the icing!
C'est Bon!
18OMG it looks sooooo good. I am literally drooling right now. I would love to try one of these but the recipe looks like it'd take a while to do.
I wonder if they can be found here at bakeries in the Bay Area. If not, guess I'll have to try the recipe when I have time.
19or i can just do as ElizabethRae suggested. Mmmmm cream cheese king cake.
20kings cake is so DELICIOUS, i love the icing all over and the taste of it all
21So good. My sisters and I had one yesterday and I found the baby, I manage to find it every year.
