This year, Marmite — a cult British favorite — introduced a champagne flavor for Valentine's Day. The original Marmite is made from a yeast extract and is a dark brown, salty paste with an intense flavor similar to soy sauce. The paste is then spread on toast or crackers. Nigella Lawson is even known for her recipe for Marmite sandwiches in which she whisks butter and Marmite together and spreads it onto sliced white bread.
The new limited-edition I Love You version contains a hint of champagne, but is still the same intense flavor.
So what I want to know is, would you eat Marmite? How about a Marmite sandwich?

I have tried Marmite, thank you very much, and it is really nasty tasting. It is high in B vitamins and iron, however.
1I have not had it, have heard of it. I would give it a try. It sounds unusual, but there's probably a reason it's been around for a while.
2I might try it...
3I really don't think I would ever buy it.
4I would try it but probably wouldn't like it. I would assume it is an acquired taste.
5Funny you should post this...I just bought the champagne Marmite and made myself a sandwich a few moments ago.
I was a bit nervous about trying it. I've heard lots of negative press about it. But I guess the best way to determine if you'd like it or not is if you're a dark soy sauce fan and a dark (red) miso fan. It smells a bit like dark red miso mixed with hoppy beer, but tastes like very concentrated soy sauce. Overall, I think it's not bad and I'm ready to try using it in recipes.
6I tried marmite on toast when I was very young (7 yrs maybe) and didn't like how it tasted. But now that I'm older and a big fan of unami type things (like soy sauce) I'd like to try it again. I'd probably cook with it more than anything else.
7They have a similar version down in New Zealand when I was visiting my sister and she was attempting to play a joke on us, putting it on her bagel and was like come on everybody it's sooooo goood. So we tried it, and uh yah, so tart we were just gagging a little.
But I think if you are used to it, it's fine, but it's just so different than anything else!
8I've never tried it, but there are many, many people who really like it. I would try it, given the opportunity.
9I've tried it - and I can't stand it!
10what's the difference b/n vegemite and marmite?
11I'm not scared to try it, but frankly it's way too salty for me! Gotta watch that salt.
12I prefer Vegemite, but love both!
13Haven't had Marmite since I was a kid. It's nasty but I would try it again.
14ewwwww...Marmite. It's as disgusting on the palate as the name suggests.
15I was forced to try vegemite once. It was horribly salty and I imagine marmite is no different.
16it sounds just like vegemite, i had an australian roommate last year in college and she conviced me to try a big bite of the stuff on toast and i can still remember the aweful taste...you pretty much have to be trained from birth like the aussies are to be able to stomach that stuff
17I also prefer Vegemite - Marmite is too tangy for me. But pan frying potatoes with Marmite and a bit of oil is excellent!
18When I was a kid, my best friend's nanny-turned-stepmom was from England, and she kept Marmite in the house. My friend was always trying to trick me into eating it by telling me it was chocolate. Her tactic wasn't very effective, since I could smell the Marmite long before it got near my mouth! I did try it once, and I was not a fan. I might like to try it again now that I'm an adult, though.
19I hated it when I was younger but now I love it. Marmite and cheese toasties are the best!
20I use it when cooking a lot too, as a sort of stock.
i'd eat anything, but don't know what this stuff is
21I love marmite! Its such an nz thing to eat it.. hate vegemite though, they definitly taste different!!
