This past weekend, I was lucky enough to spend an afternoon at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Tasting. It's a big event that's open to the public. While there I saw some seasoned pros — folks who brought their own wine appetizer trays and wine glass necklaces — but the majority of the people were casual wine tasters, or first-timers. It was a huge sight to behold, and the numbers of wines to try were overwhelming. After a few hours I had definitely tasted my share! So, now I want to know, have you ever been to a wine tasting? How about doing a wine tasting at a winery?

I've been to one out in Napa Valley and it was really gorgeous and so interesting to learn how they make the stuff. i would love to go again.
1Once in Napa Valley and once in France. It's so much fun.
2nope, but it would be fun im sure, once im old enough that is... ;P
3I've been really lucky lately. I've gone wine tasting like once a week for the past 6 weeks!
4Yep, to festivals and also individual vineyards. I think it's so fun! I do find the wine glass necklaces kind of dorky...although I'm sure they're very handy.
5Nope, but I'd love to. It seems like it would be a lot of fun.
6OH MY GODDDD why didn't I know about this?!
Granted, I'm not 21 for another three weeks, but I would've LOVED to go to that. Damn,
7Yes, I do it whenever I can.
8I went to Napa once, and the second time was part of a Senior Year Gala in college.
9I'd love to go to one. Was going to a while back but it was cancelled.
10We live a mile away from some amazing wineries, so we go all the time. (At least once a week.) We're also members of several wine clubs. I wish everyone was so lucky!
11I'm lucky - I live in Napa Valley (and I've worked at a couple of wineries)so I can really go whenever I want. It's just a matter of finding a babysitter!
12Got to do some tasting in Australia a few years ago...it was awesome.
13once in Napa Valley
14Im a winemaker so I go to a lot of wine tasting I went to Napa, Sonoma and Europe too its very fun!!
15Went wine tasting in Stellenbosch, South Africa. SO much fun and I learned so much about wine and wine processing. I'll definitely be doing more wine tasting asap!
16I used to work at a winery in high school. And I have been to some tastings at close by winery's.
17Nope, can't say that I have...
18Trips to Napa and Sonoma wineries have become a welcome part of our California visits, especially at Thanksgiving. Hope to keep up the twice (at least) yearly tradition for many more years!
19I'm not sure if it counts, but there's a local liquor/wine store that holds wine tastings every Saturday near me (Grapevine for those in Austin). It's not a fancy event or party, but if you belly up to the wine bar, you get to sample 5 to 6 different wines.
I've never been to a winery before, but I'd really like to do a weekend trip to one this year.
20Yes, many times...my parents took my sister and I to the Boston Wine Expo several years in a row, it was amazing! We didn't go this year, but I hope to next year.
I also go to the winery in Truro, Mass. with my family every summer, and we usually do the tasting.
21I love to go wine tasting! It's a great recreation.
22I love to go wine tasting! It's a great recreation.
23nope, seems like a good idea tho..
24Once, in a book fair sponsored by a Spanish school. There were cheeses, too, it was great. Not to mention one of the Spanish wine guys was cute.
25I live in Livermore. The secret Napa. The last time I went wine tasting was one of the funnest days of my life!
26No but I've washed a lot of dishes at them.
27I missed the Wine Tasting Competition!? Nooooooooo!!
I love wine tasting. Been doing so since I was 10. In Europe I tasted wines in Hungary: Balaton, Tokaji, and the Valley of the Beautiful Women in the northern region 40 winters all next door to one another in a beautiful landscape.
Temecula in East So Cal. Solvang in Central. Santa Barbara, Monterey, Paso Robles, Santa Cruz moutains, Napa, Sonoma and furtherst north I tasted in southern Oregon.
But all the tasting comes at a steep price. You have to pay to taste and when you go to like 5 wineeries a day for $10 bucks a taste on top of a wine you may purchase. . . it adds up.
My parents were sad to find this out. Apparently a long time ago tasting used to be free. I heard in some wineries out in Livermore it is. . . i have to check it out.
28Sonia-Not all wineries charge to taste. I live in Sonoma County and there are plenty of places that don't charge
My group of friends make it a point to go to places that DON'T charge to taste, since a lot of times it's a much more relaxed, enjoyable experience. And there isn't as much pressure to purchase something.
29Oh yeah, I also do about half of my wine purchasing at wineries. I'm VERY lucky to have really great tasting wine in my area!
30Once or twice, and one of those nights, years ago, where I had a huge fight with my then bf ...aaah long story lol
31i've been to one or two and i think that i really would like to try more. i don't know much about wine - just the kinds that i think i like so i always love to be exposed to a variety and really learn.
32I have been to one or two wine tasting. Mostly at food Festivals. But I would love to go to Napa!
33I'm allergic to wine (well, sulfites), but I've been a DD for wine tastings for friends! Not quite the same, but still.
34i went wine tasting in november and we hit up all 13 wineries in 2 days, it was SO much fun!
35back in college, a friend's parents rented a limo for her 21st to take us around to vineyards in the blue ridge for the day. i was fortunate to go to a school surrounded by vineyards in the most gorgeous settings! now that i live in dc, the vineyards aren't quite as close, but there are some great festivals and expos that come to the area
36No, but watching the movie Sideways made me want to,lol
37Our company holiday party this year involved a wine tasting! It was super great. There's a ton of wineries where I live, some extremely close to my apartment, so I've definitely been to a few tastings.
