Yesterday, my gal BuzzSugar surprised me with a packet of Chocolate Skittles. It was pretty exciting, because not only is it something new, it is also in time for chocolate month.
I heard about this new line of Skittles, but I hadn't actually seen them before. She found them at a local Walgreen's and picked up a pack for us to try.
I'll admit, I was really skeptical before eating these. I imagined them to be a bit odd and sort of so-so. Sadly, I was spot on. There are five flavors inside each pack, and none of them blew me away. They ranged from jelly bean like to Tootsie roll-like. To find out what we thought of each flavor, read more.
Vanilla: These tasted just like vanilla jelly beans (think Easter candy). Also, no one could understand how vanilla made its way into a chocolate mix.
S'mores: There's definitely a toasty marshmallow flavor in here, but I didn't taste the chocolate. It was decent tasting, but someone at the HQ thought it was "like a bad Jelly Belly flavor."
Chocolate Caramel: Once again, no real chocolate flavor. However it was the favorite of more than one person. There's a slight caramely flavor, that was just a tad artificial — although really, are any of these flavors going to be "natural" tasting?
Chocolate Pudding: A lot of people liked this one and thought it tasted just like a cup of pudding. Notice we said cup, like a store-bought pudding cup. Not like real chocolate pudding.
Brownie Bite: This was like the center of a Tootsie-roll pop, only without all the chewyness that makes a Tootsie-roll worth eating. Sort of fudgy, but not great.
Would I buy these again? No, but then they really didn't have much of a chance with me; I'd rather buy a bag of M&Ms or a bag of fruit Skittles, and couldn't see how these were an improvement over either. Yet I can see how, if you were a chocolate fiend, these might just hit the spot. Either way they're worth tasting for yourself, although if you hate them, don't say I didn't warn ya.

I saw these and walked right pass them to the fruity ones. Glad you reviewed them!
1I want to try these so bad but I absolutely LOVE this type of stuff. I eat way too much candy and am trying to cut back on it. I am afraid if I try these I will LOVE them and then it will be another bad habit!
2I don't understand why Mars put these out as a regular item and not a limited edition. And that they made the far superior Carnival Mix a lt. ed. (I'd much rather have those).
3They seem kinda gross.
4Why would they think chocolate skittles were a good idea. They sound disgusting.
5gross
6Worlds collide.
7I tried them a few weeks back. It was very odd. Like eating the butter popcorn jelly belly. Just wrong.
8yuck. I thought of m&ms at first, but then realized it is like chocolate flavored skittles! yuck.
9I saw them and said, "No, thank you!"
10Yeah, I don't really understand the point of "chocolate flavored" foods in general. If you want to taste chocolate, eat chocolate.
11My father-in-law got some for us to try. We pretty much all agreed they taste like tootsie roll.
12Thanks for sparing the rest of us!
13Interesting idea, I didn't even know these were being made! I'll probably give these a try, just out of curiosity.
14These have been in the breakroom vending machine at work, and every time someone goes up to it I try and talk them into buying them so I can try them. I have vowed to never purchase something out of the vending machine at work, so I can't get them! hehehe... But I really have been wondering what they taste like!
15that sounds disgusting. ive never seen them, but if i do i might buy them just because its new. i wouldnt doubt that they taste awful though.
16Wow. To think that the experience of S'Mores has come to this. As a young'en, part of the fun was getting dirty building a camp fire and toasting marshmallows on tree twigs. Not to mention piling the toasted globs on to layers of graham crackers and chocolate bars. Chin burns from the molten 'mallows were worn like badges of honor. I think that we are loosing a lot to product translation.
17Yuck they look and sound gross.
18Ew, no thanks.
Original Skittles are my favorite candy ever...I hate all of the other kinds they've came up with.
19Those sound really gross. And I miss the carnival flavored ones. Those were excellent!
20I think they'd better just stick to Original Skittles.
21Oh, I love Skittles, but I was reticent to try these and now I'm glad I did not.
Oh, yes, I totally agree with the buttered popcorn Jelly Belly being absolutely disgusting.
22i bet they taste like wax.
23Double wow. I helped Yum "test" these Skittles, but didn't happen to read the package. S'mores?! Brownie Batter?! Definitely two of my favorite flavors... but I don't recollect getting that feeling from the samples. They all tasted the same to me. And that taste was bad. Do not want.
24Hahaha Petsugar. Do not want is right! They should do something cooler like make a bag of just strawberry skittles.
25Hmmm, thanks - I guess I'll pass on these!
26They do not sound very appealing...
27I looooooooooooved the Carnival flavored ones. I copped a bag of these choco ones but have not been inclined to eat them. After reading the reviews...Im'm scared! LOL
28Ewwww. My son was bugging me to buy him these, I looked at them and left right on the counter.
29I have a really bad habit, and HAVING to try all new and limitied edition candy!! ha
30I thought about trying them but now I will pass!
31I would probably try them just to try them...other than that though, I am all set.
32hmmm I'm not really a fruity Skittles fan either, so I think I'll steer clear of these.
33the thought of a chocolate skittle really makes me nauseas. i think that they should stick to their fruity flavors. i'm not even a big fan of the original ones - but really...chocolate? ick!
34thanks for the review, I probably wouldn't have tried them anyhow ut now I know for sure.
35i saw these at the sotre last weekend....looks like they ended up tasting as weird as i expected.....definitely NOT trying these.
36I don't think I'll be trying them. If I need a chocolate fix, Haagen Daaz Mayan Chocolate does it, or some M&M's.
37I agree with sophia's 'Worlds Collide' comment.
38Oh no, these haven't made it to the shelves of my local store yet and I hope they never do. So wrong on so many levels.
39sounds nasty
40ZANG! Thanks for the honesty!
41these will prolly end up in 99 cent stores in no time. does anyone else ever notice how the candy at those stores are always odd, far-fetched flavor concoctions? like, i saw a junior mint box once, except it wasn't your typical chocolate covered mint - it was actually chocolate covered caramels, called junior caramels... ummm, it's called MILK DUDS, guys, so why are junior mints trying to capitalize on it?? ha! companies need to stick to their signature creations and stop trying to be so darn unique!
42I wasn't aware these were even out but they sound ucky!!
43Had to fill the ol' gas tank at the station today, and guess what version of Skittles was sitting on the clerk's counter? I had to laugh a little. I think oh cecilia baby is on to something!
44No, no cecelia, chocolate covered caramels from the Junior Mint people are different than milk duds. They are softer. I like them. They are sold at regular stores around here.
45real chocolate is so much better.
46This reminds me, when I was little I liked mixing a bag of M&M's and a bag of Skittles to get fruity chocolate flavors. Weird texture, of course, but everyone always thought it was sooo weirrrd... and now I see Chocolate Skittles and I think that is even more weird!
