When a recipe calls for cilantro, I'm always forced to buy way more than I'll ever need, which leads me on a search for even more cilantro-centric recipes. That was the catalyst for today's 'Wich of the Week, which features an unorthodox combination of mango and avocado on healthy multigrain bread.

This vegetarian sandwich has a refreshing tropical flavor that's alternately tangy and mild. The creamy avocado balances out the zip of the lime and the sweetness of the mango. I decided to make two versions: one vegetarian and one with ham for the hardcore meat eaters. But we all agreed that the sandwich was better without the ham, since the cold cuts overpowered the more delicate fruits. I do recommend you add some clover sprouts for added texture; just steer clear of the recalled ones!

I'm not usually a big fan of mango, but perhaps with the avocado balancing it out, I'd give it a shot. But I'm skipping the mayo!!!
1Wow! Yum. But I would not include the sprouts. Never have liked those funny looking thingies
2this is great! i have a mango and an avocado waiting to be used at home! i would have never thought of this on my own!
3YUM. Another delicious dinner.
4What kind of bread is that in the picture? It looks great. This sounds delicious!!!
5Mango and Avocados are delicious together! We always make a salsa of avocado, mango, cherry tomatoes and cilantro for tacos (probably could add red onion or jalapeno)... and it's delicious!!
6Great sandwich. Avocado and mango also go wonderfully well with shrimps or crab meat.
7It's the alvarado street bakery. it's one of my faves!
8Instead of ham, maybe turkey would have been better? Turkey has a lighter taste. Just a thought.
9This is a 5
wich in my book! I think I'll try it with FinnLover's advice of adding shrimp.
:yum:
10Wow. This looks delicious! What a great combo of flavors.
11Mmm this looks so good!!!
12I would definitely try this. This reminds me of the mango guacamole salsa I make.
13that bread sorta looks like my ezekiel sprouted sesame bread!
14i had a sandwich similar to this, avocado, sprouts, but i had it with morningstar tomato basil patty and fat free mozzareeella
wow! that looks delicious, those sprouts and avocado must go great together. i just might make one for lunch today
15This sounds strange, but most likely tasty
16I just happen to have sprouts in the fridge, too
That looks delicious, I like the idea of combining mango and avocado! My only problem is I can't really find tasty mangoes at the moment, and I'd be afraid the sandwich would be tasteless and soggy.
17wow iam definetly making this at home:)
18I've tried something similar like this before and I really enjoy it. Delicious!
19i made this today- only i made it without the ham and sprouts and lime zest instead of lime juice- SOOOO good!!
i dont even think it needs the mayo- if you have a good avocado and mango the combination of buttery and sweet are enough!!
20Oh! One more thing, it's very healthy and it has omega-3. Also good for someone who's on diet.
21this isn't for me
22I've made that sandwich and loved it but my only problem is that it was really slippery--it was best eaten kind of wrapped up to keep all the ingredients together.
23ummmmmmmmmmmmm! i like the sauce and will usually eat anything with avacados.
24Yummy! I'm making this for sure. I'm into making my own bread, with a bread machine to mix and knead, then I let it rise and bake in oven. As stated before my hubby is a bread boy and he'll love this.
25I also make my own bread, and this sounds absolutely delightful! I'm a big fan of sweet/salty combos, so I'll probably try it with a slice or two of turkey, or maybe some rotisserie chicken. Yum yum!
26YUM!! Minus the cilantro, which smells like cleaning fluid to me, this looks super good!
27Not for me...
28I hate mayo, but I'd try a little of this! I love the cilantro/lime combo!
29I'd leave out the mango though. I don't like to mix fruit with savory foods for some reason.
i get flummoxed by the size of a cilantro bunch too! somehow it's always good to me in a vietnamese style sandwich, using saigon sandwich (on larkin) as a guide. mmm mmm pate.
30I made this last night and it was so yummy! I skipped the mayo and just mashed the cilanto into the avocado. AWESOME! Great idea!
31Looks so light and refreshing, especially without the meat.
32I made it last week and it was AMAZING. soooooooooooooo good! thanks so much yumsugar!
33I like Mango,YUM!
34I don't like mayo, but I'd definitely eat the rest of the sandwich with a little dijon mustard instead.
35I've had this recipe bookmarked for weeks and I finally made it for lunch today and it was so tasty! I really liked the cilantro mayo - I'm not a big fan of cilantro, but this was good! I eat a lot of things with fruit thrown in (I love chicken salad with purple grapes). I will definitely be making this again!
