I'm all for infusing vodka at home, but homemade vodka infused with rattlesnake may be going too far. I'm not the only one who thinks it's a little much — the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission recently seized 411 bottles of the illegal substance. Apparently this type of alcohol — liquor infused with insects or reptiles — is popular in some Asian cultures, as it is believed to be an aphrodisiac. I don't think I could take a swig from the bottle, but might be able to take a chilled shot of the potent concoction. How about you? Would you drink this rattlesnake-infused vodka?

That's gross...I don't want any animal floating in my drink.
1I bet the vodka has a bite to it.
2Ha! Good one, chiefdishwasher.
3ive tried mezcal (similar to tequila) with a worm in it, and i even had half the worm. it was a bit gross...
4I'm afraid of snakes!
5Hellz to the no!!!
6Gross!
7I went to Thailand a couple of years ago and was offered rattlesnake whiskey... it looked disgusting and I wouldn't try it. But some of the people I was with did try it.. blechh!!
8ewwwww......NEVER!
9I feel bad for the snake
Also you never know what kind of reaction you could have from it
10I'd do it, but with rules. Kinda.
I would try it if it was genuinely from the culture that actually respected fermenting/infusing animals/reptiles/insects/parts of the aforementioned in their vodka/rice whiskey/various forms of rocket fuel.
When I visit a place I want it to be Tony Bourdain Style, I'm going to jump right in and experience the culture at it's heart.
I don't think I would do it just for the novelty of it...maybe I might, I've found that novelties wear off very fast.
Though I still haven't done the mezcal that is typical of my own culture, that'll be saved for a special family occasion probably...
P.s. Sorry for the masses of backslashes, I get carried away with punctuation sometimes.
11I reckon I would rather die than have a sip of that.
12Um, no. That's disgusting as hell.
13In Oaxaca, I've had tequila and mezcal with the worm in it, so it's not a surprise that people would put other things into their alcohol. I would give it a try.
14No, I like vegan alcohol.
15What a horrible idea. No.
16I tried sake with some sort of rattlesnake in it, and it wasn't that bad. You couldn't taste anything that resembled rattlesnake.
17Uhhhh huh, because Asian countries are where I look to for moral guidance. Even if I did drink alcohol, this is disgusting.
18ewwww....not for me!
19I tried some sort of cobra-infused whiskey my friend brought back form vietnam . . . and immediately vomited. it was foul, don't do it.
20what the.... hahaha
21I realize it maybe just a snake, but could animal cruelty be an issue here? Do they put it in alive and let the alcohol kill it? It's still gross to think about it if they throw a dead snake in the bottle, too.
22I'm one of those people that says they will eat just about anything...JUST ABOUT. This is one of those things that I've already designated as "will not consume"...this and other sorts of animal infused alcohols. If I were in a snake restaurant in hanoi, I'd eat the beating heart, I'd drink the bile, but I would NOT drink the snake wine. there's just something absolutely disgusting to me about drinking something that an animal has been floating in. I even realize that the alcohol would sterilize it (to an extent) but still, no, I couldn't do it.
23I saw this story on Fox News and wondered how long it would take to get posted to YS!
24there's probably snake poop in there! yuck! NO!
25Ugh! That made me want to be sick...then I was alright...and then I read licket split's post...and then I wanted to be sick again
26foxie: "Uhhhh huh, because Asian countries are where I look to for moral guidance"
that an ignorant statement: using animals for food/drink is something that ALL countries do, and does not mean that countries in Asia are immoral...
27My first reaction was a shudder...so I don't think I could do it.
28Animals should only be preserved in alcohol as part of a scientific collection, and even then in limited numbers for the species. I even feel the same way about the worm in the tequila.
29Asian countries take it quite a few steps further, so no.. it isn't an ignorant statement. I stand behind it 100%. Eating monkey brains? Skinning live animals? Not to mention their crimes against human rights... So I repeat.... Asian countries are NOT where I look to moral guidance.
30NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO - not only is it wrong - it's just awful to think about it. how could you put a rattlesnake in a bottle, and then consider infusing vodka with it? that's just nasty!
31Yuck! That's just beyond gross. Besides, I'm scared of snakes - no way I'd want any in my drink.
32I wouldn't say that it's only Asian thing. I live in Estonia (little country in Eastern-Europe) and for us it's just old custom and there's nothing new about it. It was a common remedy here about few hundred years ago, but you can still find it from old people. Just alternative medicine.
33But I haven't tried it and will never do it as I'm not that much into alternative medicine myself
34foxie, i dont agree with what you said. each country has its own culture and food habits. it is not up to us to judge if its moral or not. obviously everyone has the right to eat what they like, or what they agree with. but to say that its immoral to eat something that is traditional in ones culture is rude, specially the asian culture that is one of the oldest and richest around.
35Just think, what is "normal" to you may not be to others. That doesnt mean that they should not respect your beliefs. Eat what you like, but respect others aswell.
I'm not much of a drinker. And even if I were I would NOT drink this stuff.
36I'd rather not touch the stuff, but I'd drink it before the Vietnamese cobra wine. They cut the snake open first. I think it's the gallbladder they want to infuse into it.
37What's the point? Does it make taste different or make it stronger? Or is it just for shock value? Either way, it's a big fat NO from me.
38Ewww, NO!
39plasticapple - A lot of cultures believe that snakes have medicinal value. It's meant to be consumed more as a medicine than as a way to get drunk.
40Who would have thought that food could turn into politics?
41Za- Uh, are you joking? Morality definitely is what you make of it, thus, I have every right to judge/say that Asian countries are not very moral. If you don't like it, congratulations... you don't see me caring if you think they have great values. Yes, every country treats animals disgracefully, but as I said before, many Asian countries exploit animals in ways that go above and beyond.
42That is truly disgusting and a waste of perfectly good vodka.I'll never understand what possesses people to put crazy things into food and drink.Aside from that, rattlesnakes are POISONOUS,and I doubt that alcohol removes all (or any) of the toxicity.Simply stupid.
43And BTW,I could care less about the plight of the damn snakes.I despise snakes. There are far simpler ways to kill them than drowning them in vodka.
44I would try it, the snake is not gonna get me, it's dead.
Why is everything weird an aphrodisiac?
45GROSS!!
The thought makes my skin crawl.
46No thanks...
47I have a big snake-phobia problem, and seeing that picture made me gag.
So, no.
48For one, ick. For two, I feel bad for the snake. I had to guard a rattlesnake in AZ so it could be removed from the property (they're protected maybe?) and it was terrified of me more than I was of it.
49I'm with Advah- I nearly had a heart attack just seeing the picture, so there's no way that vodka would be passing my lips.
