I'm sure you had better things to do this weekend, but me, I spent mine on eBay looking at a weird number of state-shaped cornflakes. On Friday night, an Austin-based trivia-company purchased a cornflake shaped like Illinois for $1,350. That's right, Monty Kerr, owner of TriviaMania, spent over a thousand dollars on a single cornflake.
Hoping to cash in on the phenomenon, loads of copycat cornflake auctions cropped up this weekend. There was a heart-shaped cornflake, one shaped like the US, another Illinois-shaped cornflake that also resembles Ben Franklin, an Oregon one, an Africa-shaped one, one shaped like Ohio, and so on. At this time, the Ben Franklin cornflake was actually going for over $400, but Oregon was still cheap.
I don't know about you guys, but I think this is absolutely crazy. I don't understand why you'd buy odd-shaped cornflakes, and yet, I have this strange urge to dump out my box of cereal and see what shapes I can find!

i don't know which is worse - the person who realized that they had the cornflake or the ppl that bought it. i wonder if it's not easier to just get cornflakes and then cut them into shapes? i'm sure you could wet them, cut, dry them and save yourself a lot of money.
1Yes, I had better things to do on the weekend.
2Downright ridiculous!
3Uh, wtf.
4Wow, just wow. Wouldn't that money be better off going into somebody's college fund instead?
5People really do have too much time on their hands!
6that same amount of money could feed so many people
7This is so silly...
8What is the fascination with coincidentally-shaped foods? (Sorry, I know there's a word for it, I just can't think of it right now because it's Monday morning!)
9A: That does NOT look like Illinois
10and B: people are STUPID to pay money for a freaking cornflake!
crazy
11people will buy anything!
12More money than sense.
13I had seen this story and my reaction was the same as yours, Yum. I just wanted to go through a box and see what shapes I could sell on eBay.
But really; WHY would someone buy that? What are they going to do with it?
14Is this a joke? There are too many cornflakes out there that I'm sure are shaped like so many different things, even states. That money could have went to charity. This just goes to show that people will buy anything if they have the money to waste.
15Good lord...
16People are insane! There is a lot of other things I could spend my $1300 on besides a dried of cornflake. Why don't these people donate that crazy money to some charity that could help someone?
17i heard about this on the radio. i think its crazy.
18I could see selling something like this and/or buying it to raise money for charity, but otherwise... what's the point? *facepalm*
