Watch out, if you've purchased any cantaloupe recently you may want to check the sticker. The FDA issued an alert regarding cantaloupe from Agropecuaria Montelibano, a Honduran grower and packer. Turns out fruit from them may be linked to a salmonella outbreak. At the time of their alert, 59 people had illnesses linked to the cantaloupes. No deaths have occurred, but 14 people were hospitalized.
If your cantaloupe doesn't have a sticker, you should check with your grocery store to see where their stock comes from. If it turns out to be from Agropecuaria Monteliban, you should toss it out. Better to be safe than sorry!
If you're concerned and would like to learn more, be sure to read the full FDA alert.

i don't eat cantaloupe (it has no taste to me!) but this is awful - soon they will be recalling bottled water... oh wait, they already have!
1is no food sacred anymore?
2I spent $16 on cut up fruit the other day because I wanted some and was too lazy to cut up my own. Unfortunately I had to throw away the watermelon/cantaloupe/honeydew one (luckily the cheapest) as we were afraid to eat any of it, not knowing where the cantaloupe was from.
3k squared I love your avatar! My bf worked on Invader Zim so I have a lot of Zim stuff (mostly Gir though).
4Wow thank you so much. I was about to buy one today. :/
5Yup understandable. Last time I got botulism and had to go to the ER was because of some very delicious cantaloupe. I forgot to wash the outside peel with soap and hot water before I cut into it. Then I did not wash my hands after I cut the fruit from the peel and it made me so ill I had to rush myself to the ER.
I've since had more cantaloupe because I love it but I am extremely cautious with it.
6No cantaloupe diets this year.
7Good thing I'm not a fan...
8I haven't bought a cantelope yet this year. I'm going to be afraid to now, too.
9It seems like we're hearing about something new everyday! If I had any green thumb abilities I'd seriously consider starting my own garden.
10Eeeek!
11Although I'd probably never think of eating cantaloupes in winter/spring.
its so disheartening every time I learn of another recalled item.. especially fruits and vegetables!! when will it end???
12I heard about this on the news. This happens so often, that I'm not even surprised anymore.
13I was most surprised to hear that people were buying cantaloupes at this time of the year.
