The other day I came across a very disturbing video. In the video, one of my favorite America's Next Top Model contestants — Elyse Sewell from Cycle 1 — eats live octopus tentacles. She slurps the squirming tentacles down as if they were nothing and she does it while sexily eyeing the camera. Tyra would be so proud, Elyse looks like a model while eating live seafood!
I thought I could eat anything but watching the octopus move as she swallowed it made me feel kind of sick. Still, I pride myself on being adventurous and would try my hardest to stomach this octopus. How about you? Would you eat live octopus?

I like octopus but I think i want it to be resting in peace before I eat it.
1Well, I won't knock it until I've tried it.
2Why no, no I would not like to eat a live octopus...thanks for asking though.
3Ummm...a definite no!
4Sure deep fried with lemon wedges and marinara...lol
5Something about eating an animal while it is still alive seems, not gross, but just wrong. I guess if you are eating an animal anyway then what does it matter but still... wrong.
6If its cooked then YES!
7yep. i totally have. it's actually pretty interesting, and it's not so much about taste, as it is about texture. add some korean hot sauce to it, and they're quite delish.
8tasty korean dish...dip it in a little salt and pepper in sesame seed oil and they stop squirming. once got stuck in my throat but won't stop me from eating them again.
9umm....ewww...
10Awful, awful, awful to eat an animal while it's still alive.
11I'd rather eat this than gross hamburgers from McDonald's..before Americans cry-out, "ewww," they should take a look at the gross junk food in their homes.
12im up for trying alot, but ive had Octupus b4 and it was cooked and seasoned, not alive and squihsy (well not as squishy)......this is just "wheres the toilet" kinda stuff.
13Nasty it looks like worms on a plate.
14cruel. but i'm vegan, so.
15I can't believe ANYONE would be willing to eat something while it was still alive. It's sick and it's cruel.
THINK before you say you'll do something. It angers me that people have the audacity to think nothing of being so cruel.
16I draw the line at eating my food live, sorry.
17Jamais de la vie!
18No!
19i just started eating sushi this year - let me get to the octopus in 2012...
20so nasty. then again, i dont eat seafood haha. but still. nasty
21this is something i can see my boyfriend doing if someone dared him though lol
22Why????What is the point of eating something that is alive? That seems very self indulgent.
23You know, I'll eat almost anything, but I don't think I could stomach (haha) food that's still alive.
I read about some places in Japan that serve sashimi from still-living fish. And I'm a huge sashimi freak, but that's too fresh for me.
24Season them up and they will go down like oysters.
25I'm a vegetarian so...no.And this reminded me of the octopus scene in Oldboy.Nothing compares to that!lol
26Still I agree that junkfood is worse.
common korean dish.... >
27eating something while it is alive seems too cruel to me.
28no - i would not. then again, i'm a vegetarian so it's a loaded question, but even if i ate fish or whatever, i would have to stay away from that.
29I would never eat anything live.... yuck yuck yuck. COOKED octopus on the other hand is very delicious
30oh my goodness no!!!! That is revolting. I thought I was going to be sick just watching the video.
31This is horrifying and disgusting. Cruelty should never be a delicacy. Shame on anyone who would indulge in such an atrocity.
32I seriously almost thew up in my mouth.
I think it's AWFUL to eat something that is still alive. It's like gnawing on a chicken wing while it's still alive.
Nasty.
33No. The Octopus is my favorite animal. They're beautiful, sensitive, intelligent creatures and I'd never eat one.
34I could never eat something that was still alive.
35Well I could never eat anything that's literaly moving around on my plate.
36okay so this is gross. I lived on Kauai from the age of 3-6 and my parents were hippie/naturalists. My step dad would go out and throw a net into the ocean and that is what we ate for the day/week. We were camping on the beach and he happened to catch an octopus and what does he do? chops it up, puts some lemon on it and gives it to us to eat...well..when he wasn't looking I buried the poor thing. I wouldn't eat it then and won't eat it now!
37I have enjoyed many a scallop, clam, and even a few fish that were still moving. I've swallowed a few bugs too.
I have no problem eating living plants or animals, and but I do have an issue with eating exceptionally intelligent ones. Octopus have been shown to have great aptitude for problem solving, creativity, and memory, and while I have eaten them and found them tasty, I gave up the practice after finding out that they are as thoughtful as they are.
38I eat it all the time! You dip it in sesame oil mixed with a little sea salt.
39It's not really alive. It's just the tentacles and they wriggle for a little bit after being severed from the rest of it's body. To me, it's not any more cruel to eat than cooked octopus. Or any other cooked animal.
I wouldn't eat live lobster where it's walking around on my table with the head still attached. Now that is cruel.
40christ no that is VILE
41hellz no...alive, raw, slimy...wrong...not even rolled in rice and seaweed...
42I have never liked octopus, so I wouldn't want to eat the tentacles off a living one either.
43Um, some of you guys are being way too judgmental. This is a popular drinking delicacy in Korea and happens to be quite good. There is a danger of the suction cups being stuck inside the throat but otherwise, the flavor is just like eating cooked octopus.
Please be somewhat considerate. If you find it gross, just say it's gross, not that it's inhumane or barbaric. Try to experience other cultures besides whatever the hell American culture stands for... I guess hamburgers, over-eating and paparazzi.
44I don't think that an octopus can be cut up into little chunks and still be considered alive. Yes, the tentacles are moving, but I don't see this as a form of cannibalism.
45It's just a cultural food to me, nothing more.
Eggs, stop being so bitter and judgmental. I'm getting very upset about all the criticism we all give each other. It's sad that all cultures just can't bury the hatchet and learn to get along.
I despise seafood and eating life tentacles would turn my stomach. Actually, it probably would literally turn my stomach. The video grossed me out. I'm American (Terribly sorry I can't help where I come from! don't group me along with what you see as our culture) and cook fresh foods. I don't eat out or indulge too much in food. We should all just kill ourselves at this rate, huh? since no one is happy with anyone or anything.
46live*
47Hell to the nawwww. I wouldn't eat a dead octopus, much less a live one.
48elyse is the coolest chick ever. her look at the end makes me smile.
49I don't eat sushi - I have a thing about raw meats. I eat my steak well done that pink stuff grosses me out - So no I wouldn't eat the octopus. I have eaten it cooked and it's delicious and will surely eat it again.
50American stands for greatness. If you don't like it here go somewhere else, this is a big planet.
