Ragu
A sauce of meat, poultry, or a combination of the two and finely diced vegetables simmered for a long time in one or more liquids, such as water, milk, cream, wine, broth, or stock and seasonings. A staple of northern Italy's Bologna, ragu is typically served with pasta.
Though different than the French ragout, both are derived from the verb "ragouter," which means to stimulate the appetite.

Hmm... this looks suspiciously like the not great "Beef Stew" I had last night, excpet minus the potatoes. No wonder the stew was so disappointing.
1and here i thought 'ragu' was just a brand of sugary spaghetti sauce.
2This sounds like what I've been making for soup lately. I use Zataran's flavored rice with either beef or chicken stock, add chicken or sausage, chopped vegetables, onion, cilantro, and 5 cups water and it is awesome every time! Its always a little different because the ingredient flavors can vary so much. It makes 6-7 bowls of stew/soup.
3This sounds like something I cooked before.
