Remember when I told you that McDonald's was planning on opening hipper McCafes? Well, not to be left behind, Burger King is doing a similar thing. Instead of fancy coffees, they're planning on selling fancier Whoppers at their new Whopper Bars. The places will be smaller and, if the artist rendering is accurate, fancier. The menus will also be smaller and it would feature as many as 10 types of Whoppers, including the Texas Double Whopper and the spicy onion-topped Angry Whopper. There's also speculation of creating your own Whopper to order, with things like peppers, bacon, and bbq sauce. When asked about it, Burger King president Russ Klein said:
It's our way of stepping into the future. [The Whopper] is arguably a trademark that is bigger than Burger King itself.
The Whopper Bars are expected to pop up in casinos, airports, and other venues with limited amounts of space.
Also noteworthy is the idea that they may make it a real bar by selling beer. At this time, Klein believes that the concept of offering beers isn't "unthinkable." Whoppers and beers? Sign me up!

Fun! I think that it is a great idea. I have been noticing "Chipotle" style build your burger restaurants popping up and they are awesome!
1I'm not a fan of BK, but this looks like a pretty good idea for them.
2Ummmm...isn't this a little redundant? Anyone remeber their old commercial "Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us...? Seems to me like another excuse for BK to charge higher prices for the same crappy food.
3Oh that's more of what we need, more aesthetically pleasing, obesity promoting, unhealthy venues that are also serving beer! Why not call it an express-lane to being flabby! Beer gut & cellulite with a side o' rings...mmm boy!
And they wonder what's wrong with America..
4wow- "Have It Your Way" on another level!
5This won't make me want to eat at BK anymore than I do already (once a year, or less). McDonald's opened one of its new concept stores (fire place, leather couches, plasma TV) a few blocks from the university, and it really isn't any different. The only thing is, several people I know have gotten food poising from there.
6This is a fabulous concept and it sounds as if BK is being realistic about where it will fit in. Sports venues, airports and other places where dining options are pretty lame to begin with. I agree with Berlin and others that burgers and fries shouldn't be eaten every day, but neither should French Laundry's menu--which probably has fat content greater than the fattiest Whopper and super-sized meal by an order of magnitude or more. It will be fun to see how the burger bar concept works out!
7Why not? If I'm an environment like that, I'm there to have a good time, so that's when I might go for a Whopper since I rarely eat fast food.
8Oh what's next people. Gimme a break
9yummm! clogged arteries, here i come!
