Belvedere Vodka has just announced their new Buy Your Friend a Belvedere program. You go to the site, login, buy your friend a drink — yes, with real money — and they'll receive a drink code via email or a text message. Your friend then goes online to find a participating bar or restaurant, takes the code to that place and gives it the bartender. The bartender gives your friend a drink and voila, you've bought your friend a drink!
It's sort of a neat idea, but it's a bit convoluted. I'd rather just plan to meet up and buy my friend a drink in person. Although, if your friend lives across the country, it might be a nice way to say hello! What do you think, would you buy your friend a drink through the internet?

I guess if my friend were in another city, I might buy them a drink this way, but more for a laugh than anything. Wouldn't you feel like a big dork if you had to cash in a free drink this way? It's almost like you can't afford to pay for it yourself!
Good point Tasha! At first I thought it was a cool idea but I'd be way too embarrassed to present some sort of a free drink coupon at the bar. Plus I bet the bartenders will hate you and think it'll affect their tip.
This all seems so complicated. I would rather get them a gift certificate to Bevmo. Same concept but they can purchase the kind of alcohol they like.
idk - everything is so impersonal, but convenient nowadays...
No sounds like a hassle. Plus the people I know drink Rye Whiskey, Scrumpy, or good German Beer not vodka.
It's just weird
Stupid! I'd feel like a total tool giving a bartender a 'free drink' coupon.
OMG... I love Bevmo!
Why not just send them a nice bottle of liquor or wine? I've done that before. It's a pleasant surprise for the recipient to get an unexpected package AND a drink!
Exactly, no way would I do this, lol.
I dont think so...I'll buy my friends a drink while we are out at the bar this weekend. DuH!! The online thing is too much trouble..you gotta put in your credit card info..they have to print it and then they might not have a participating bar within 2 hours of them!! It will most likely..if purchased..just go to waste and never end up being used.
I wouldn't do this. I'd be afraid that they'd forget to get the number and never redeem their drink...i know I'd probably forget. Plus, I think the whole point of buying each other a drink is being sociable. MAYBE I would do this if I wanted to buy a friend a drink on a birthday or something and I couldn't be there (which happens to me...I live in RI and all of my friends are in MD)
I have seen a couple of other sites that do something similar, but it does seem a bit too complicated. I mean what if you feel like a glass of wine, but your friend bought you a martini or a beer?
Yeah if I was the bartender, I'd be like sorry we just stopped accepting these lol. Interesting idea that is too ridiculous to be played out
My best friend loves vodka and lives on the other coast, but I would hate to make him look like a tool like that in a crowded bar. I would like to be the best wo-man at his wedding some time this century.
i think that's the cutest idea ever - i would totally do it.
No way - if I am going to buy a friend a drink I am going to be there to enjoy it with them!
