Pizza Hut Is Now Pasta Hut . . . or Is It?

OK, I'm assuming this is a Pizza Hut's way of playing a practical April Fool's joke on all of its customers, but you never can tell these days. It could just be and oddly-timed marketing scheme.

This morning, the Pizza Hut chain unveiled new signage declaring they're now serving pasta so good that they've decided to change their name. The dishes that inspired the name change are the Creamy Chicken Alfredo and Meaty Marinara. The 3-lb. servings — that are baked in a blend of sauce and cheese — will be available for $11.99. Scott Bergen, Pizza Hut's CEO, said:

For 50 years we've been all about pizza. As we've prepared for the launch of our new line of Tuscani Pastas our customers have consistently told us these pastas are so good we should change our name to Pasta Hut. Starting tomorrow, Pizza Hut is Pasta Hut.

I can't imagine they would actually change their name, although I could see them doing it for a short promotional period. Surely the name change must be an April Fool's joke? Either way I want to know, are you curious about their new baked pastas, and would you buy pasta from Pizza Hut?

I wouldn't buy the pasta. I don't even buy the pizza.
It does sound like a joke.

The pasta probably tastes like it's been soaked in grease, just like the pizza, so no thanks!

April's Fools joke, all the way.

They did a news story here last week so I know that they really are about to start serving pasta. I am excited about it because it adds variety. We order pizza at work and I hate it, but if we could do pizza and pasta I think it would be better.

I'm sure the 3 lb serving is a family style dish, like the pizzas are.

Sounds like April Fools marketing scheme to me!

I will say though, I went to high school in a tiny town that only had McD's, Subway, Sonic, & Pizza Hut, so we ate at "Pizza Slut" a lot. And they had pastas back then (99-02). They were SOOOOOOO good, but they are SOOOO not good for you! I liked their Chicken Alfredo or Chicken Primavera, something like that. It had chicken, veggies, noodles, & cheese. And it came with this DELICOUS garlic bread! ooooh the crap I used to eat!

Oh, yeah, I think they only had pasta in the single serving, except at the buffet! (Yes this was one of those kinds of Pizza Huts!)

No Pizza Mutt for me! I realy dislike everything about their pizza, so I can't say that I am drawn to their pasta dishes. Besides, I like to make my own sauces for pasta. Thay way I know what's in it!

It sounds like a good way to mix an april fool's joke with marketing for their new pasta dishes. pretty clever.
the whole "3 lb serving size" thing makes me think that maybe the whole think is a joke. that's unbelievable.

I've tried their pizza twice in my life and twice I've been sadly disappointed. It's the worst. So no I won't be trying their over cooked pasta dishes even it's free.

I don't do Pizza Hut or any other fast food, but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people went to a Pasta Hut since a lot of people eat their pizza.

I can list three pizza or pasta places that would have the same or higher quality baked pasta for less money (though you'd probably only get a two person serving), within a half mile radius of where I'm sitting right now, so I probably won't ever try it. I am spoiled by living in New York though. If I was with friends who were ordering Pizza Hut, I would try it. I'm always open to obscenely large quantities of leftovers.

I liked the Pizza Hut Big New Yorker (even though it tasted nothing like New York pizza), because they didn't spray that awful butter stuff in the pan before baking it. I just can't deal with the greasy crusts of their other pizzas.

i guess everyone is trying to eveolve in order to stay current and fight against the clutter in the marketplace. i'm not sure that i would ever go to pizza hut for more than a pizza, especially since they really aren't my favorite pizza place anyway. i guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

The story is true, albeit oddly timed as far as the sign change is concerned. There were several news releases last week regarding the decreased profitability of pizza and the hope that Pizza Hut's recent losses in profits will be offset by the new line Pasta. Yum Brands Inc. applied for a trademark of the name Pasta Hut in January of this year. Do you guys research your articles before you post 'em?

They already serve spaghetti and meat balls. The 3lb serving may be a family value meal.

The name change is a temporary promotional stunt to promote their new pasta dishes. They are planning to return to Pizza Hut (unless Pasta Hut is really some big hit. In which case, they might just leave it after all.)

I'm going to bet money that they aren't keeping the name Pasta Hut. Pizza Hut is a 50 year old company so they are staying. And I'm sure 3 lbs. is so you can feed your entire family without spending a lot of money. With the possibility of a recession going on right now I think it's great.
