While putting together the appetizers at a recent potluck, I ended up needing several cookie sheets. Some were mine, while others were borrowed. When I finished baking the prosciutto pinwheels, I had a really hard time figuring out which were my three cookie sheets. Next time I attend a potluck — or bring any sort of cooking dish to a party — I'll label my cookie sheets and baking pans.
To ensure that you don't lose or mix-up pans, write your first initial on the bottom of the pan with a black sharpie. If you aren't baking the dish in the oven, put a small piece of masking tape on the bottom and write your initials on the tape.

I'll use parchment paper on the ones i borrowed, but not on mine. then i can return them sooner too.
1I've seen labels made of foil so they are safe to go in the oven. I'll post them if I find them.
2My mom has always used a sharpie but I tend to favor those disposable cookie sheets they are reusable or just toss them.

4I can't say I've ever taken a baking sheet to a potluck. Mine are so gross from baking spray that I'd be happy to leave them!
5I've never used a baking sheet at a party, but as for other dishes and things I usually use the initials on the masking tape idea. I've never had to bring anything that was going in the oven...I don't know how I'd mark it...probably just with the sharpie

7My stuff is distinctive enough that I've never worried about losing track of it.
My Grandmother did a lot of baking for church events, and she had a great way of preventing her stuff from getting lost. She bought a hand held engraving gadget, and put her name on the bottom of all of her metal pans. There was no way that was going to get scraped or washed off.
