The other day I was browsing Shopstyle Living when I came across these disturbingly ugly wind-up bird salt and pepper shakers. Seeing these circusy, clown-like shakers on a dinner table might scare me. And "Please pass me the pepper" becomes, "Please wind up the pepper birdie and send it rolling over," which is fun, but could be dangerous. What if the bird is too wound up, flies right off the table, and spills salt all over the floor? Am I the only one who finds these shakers revoltingly tacky? What do you think?

No thanks. I find circus theme and clowns to be totally creepy.
1They're just... gaudy. The concept of moving salt shakers I'm ok with, if they just didn't look like... that.
2I would love them for a Thanksgiving children's table.
And you know if the adults see that's what the kids have, the youngest adults are going to try to start passing off as kids.
I think they're pretty adorable, even if a little over the top and nonsensical. (but then again I love Carroll)
3They do seem like they'd be fun for a kid's table, as EspressoJunkie said. They'd probably spend the whole meal sending that salt and pepper back and forth and not eat much.

Unless you put them out on the table during a 'circus birthday party' for children. That is the only time when these tacky things would fit into the decor.

10One word: Obnoxious. I could maybe see putting them on a kids' table but I wouldn't put any salt or pepper in them. That's a mess waiting to happen right there.
11I am undecided. I think they would be hideous but in my sisters house (who puts things away when my father visits because he cant cope with the riot of colour) would be totally apt.
