Yesterday, Krispy Kreme introduced a whole new way to make us eat healthier (huh???). Their original glazed donuts are now available in a whole wheat variety with a caramel flavoring. The new doughnut is (according to Krispy Kreme), an alternative for health-conscious consumers.
"The Krispy Kreme whole wheat glazed doughnut delivers the delicious taste that our customers have come to expect from us," said Stan Parker, the company's senior vice president of marketing.
Okay, now even though the new doughnut is made of whole wheat and comes in at 20 calories less than the original glazed, I just can't really get behind the whole concept. I mean, health-conscious and Krispy Kreme don't really seem to go hand in hand, now do they?

... anyone who really believes that a krispy kreme donut is healthy just cuz it's made of wheat has a problem.
donuts and health don't go together first off
secondly, Krispy KREME and health is like... pretty much darn impossible. i mean, cmon, we all know there's whole wheat bread out there that isn't healthy for you either. . .
this reminds me of ppl who see the label 'organic' and think it automatically means 'waistband friendly'...
1LOL this is just ridiculous! LOL
2Hey now... everyone (ok, most people) wants a donut every once in a while, so what's wrong with offering a version that is 20 calories less? I think it's nice that they are offering a choice. I mean, when that Krispy Kreme craving hits, now there is a less-calorie alternative. And the quote from the Krispy Kreme guy just says that the donut tastes good, he's not claiming health benefits or anything.
I think that efforts like these should be applauded and supported (and I don't mean supported by eating a dozen a day). If we support these types of things, then we are more likely to get more chains and food producers of food that we love, that happens to be really bad for us, to consider healthiER alternatives. I think this is a step in the right direction.
Back to the donuts - when you walk in to that 8am meeting and all that is on the table is a box of Krispy Kremes and a carafe of coffee, I will be thankful for the 20-calories-less version.

4well out monster, very well put, i totally agree. i think people know that if you eat doughnut every day, you will get heavier, just like chips and other fried foods. but if someone is trying to do something, anything, why knock it? at least i can have my once a month doughnut and not feel as bad.
5No thanks...I'll take the 20 extra calories.
6I'll try anything once, almost anything.
Style Before Comfort!
7You're only eating 20 calories less than the regular that's nothing its not less fatening.
8You still have to do lots of this if you eat one:
9I love Krispy Kreme, and I try to eat healthy, but this sounds like an oxymoron to me.
10well, at least it makes things healthier...
11krispy kreme is my all time fave!
