At the Junior Achievement's Wine Tasting and Auction, I was inspired by their servingware. Instead of offering guests olives and marinated cheeses in regular bowls, they were festively placed inside radicchio leaves. The bright purple leaves made the antipasto display pop with color!
This is a great idea for the eco-conscious hostess. No bowls need to be washed and the empty leaves can be placed into the compost bin. Iceberg and romaine lettuce leaves would also work well for serving salsas, olives, cheese, crackers, and more.

I've seen creamy pumpkin soups served in mini hollowed-out pumpkin shells. Very cute!
1I use a half a watermelon that's been hollowed out to serve fruit salad in. It works really well and it looks cool too!
2this look really gross. This would make me loose my appetite if i saw this on a table
3There's always "Hen in a pumpkin"...

4i like to use hollowed out bellpeppers to serve dip in for crudites.
5I don't know...this doesn't look very good to me.
6i just saw a recipe for crab-filled cucumbers on recipetips.com. you just slice the cucumbers into about 1/2" pieces and then use a melon baller to scoop out some of the middle and put the crab mixture inside. it's kind of like a bowl...
7I was just paging thru the May issue of Fine Cooking(May) tonight and they had a reader tip on this very topic!
"Halved and hollowed out citrus fruit-like lemons, oranges, and grapefruit-make unusual and colorful bowls for serving ice cream, fruit salad, or even a gelatin dessert. To keep the bowls from wobbling, cut a thin slice from the bottom, taking care to leave the rind intact so there are no leaks."
LOVE it!
