Last week my pal Donna invited me to partake in a box of cookies she received from a friend. The cookies were from Emporio Rulli ($35.95) and were quite delicious. The box was crammed full of various artisan cookies, including almond-paste specialties, mini macaroons, and shortbread. I usually associate a tin of cookies with stale and boring, but these were great.
In general, something about store-bought tins seems old-fashioned and overly formal. I'd rather receive a box of goofy-looking, homemade chocolate chip cookies. And yet, I know they would make a great gift for grandma on Mother's Day. Which got me wondering, do you buy tins of cookies and if so, do you like them?

They're okay. They sort of remind me of my great aunt and what she would have at her home as kids.
I'd rather give and receive cookies baked for me then bought.
1If they taste really good, yes. I actually like the old fashioned and formal boxes.
2What I would do was buy a pretty fancy tin, and fill it with homemade cookies. Next I would tie it with a ribbon and send that as a gift.

4i'm not one to really buy those things on my own but i've received quite a few from other people. in my industry, we get lots of gifts like that from reps , so my co-workers and i get to enjoy them.
5I don't think I've ever bought any, but if they looked good, I suppose I might.

8The key word is "tin", one of the cheapest metals there is. Cheap metal, cheap cookie.

13Evidently none of you has had cookies from Byrd Cookie Company. They come in a plethora of tins, some with beach scenes, some with scenes of Historic Savannah, some of Charleston. They are all very good, but my all time favorite are the Key Lime Coolers. They are to die for. Another would be the Benne Wafers. Just Google Byrd Cookie Co. or The Gourmet Marketplace. If I knew how to post them on here I would. And the tins become collector's items! Enjoy!
14Nah. I generally don't really like crunchy cookies. Not worth it to me.
15For a special gift I might, but most of the time my family and friends appreciate homebaked more. Many homemade cookie doughs can be kept in the freezer, if there is room. It can be is as easy as the premade rolls of dough from the market, and resale stores have some good bargains on tins, plates and baskets to use for gifting. My late wonderful aunt gave me some very good advice, to make one thing well and then "accessorize" with the packaging.
