Believe it or not, I don't drink much coffee. I cut it out of my life and now only indulge every so often, more for flavor than for the wake-up boost. However, I know there are quite a few of you, who absolutely can not live without your morning cuppa. If you're in that camp, then I have some interesting news for you. Starbucks is launching an energy boost.
Their new option, called +Energy, is a blend of B vitamins, guarana, and ginseng. For 50 cents, it can be added to any existing drink. Now you can have your caffeine boost AND an energy boost all at the same time. When asked why they were doing this, Starbucks spokesperson Bridget Baker said:
It's a perfect match for active lifestyles. It's a way of meeting that demand and addressing that need.
And if you're too active to actually stand in line for a drink, starting next month they'll offer a ready-to-drink version for grocery stores, convenience stores, and any other places their ready-to-drink products are sold.
So has anyone tried the +Energy boost? Did it make your coffee taste differently?

haven't tried it, but its sounds pretty good.
1Next they will market the Starbucks brand of 5 Hour Energy!
2I think I'd rather just get an extra shot of espresso in my vanilla soy latte. Even at Jamba, the boosts always seem to make my drink taste funny.
3I don't drink coffee, but i believe that 'energy drinks or boosts' are more psychological than anything else!
4I'll try it but I was disappointed by the chemical taste in the sugar-free shots so I don't have high hopes.
5Starbucks has expanded too far too quickly... it needs to stop!
Also, I hate hate hate to be this person, but...
"Did it make your coffee taste differently?"
Coffee can't taste anything. Your coffee will taste DIFFERENT with an additive. You are preparing your coffee differently.

6I agree with you GreenWtihEnnui, it seems like Starbucks has expanded very quickly lately. There's really no reason.
With that said, I think I'd just get an extra shot of espresso in my drink if I wanted an energy boost.
7I dont really go to Starbucks. Occasionally go to Dunkin Donuts since I think it is less pretentious and serves good coffee as well.
8haven't tried the drink yet but reading about what it adds makes me think of a commercial I see on tv for the 5 hour energy drink in which they say guarana is bad for you but do not go into detail as to why it is. I did a quick wiki search and all that came up that seemed pertinent was the fact that it might help with memory retention and in some cases may contribute to the onset of seizures in some people. anyone know much else about guarana?
9What? The jolt from the caffeine isn't enough??
10I might try it, not so sure.
11I'll pass.
12BRING IT ON!
13We just added "Boosts" to our smoothies at my work, Cold Stone Creamery. There's energy, protein, anti-stress, or antioxidant.
14I don't drink much coffee, so I'm not sure I'd ever go for this. But I've got to hand it to Starbucks; they keep finding new drinks to ply us with.
15I'll go Starbucks when they have a free Iced Coffee Day like Dunkin Donuts (no flipping coupons).
16I'll pass. Tossing guarana and ginseng into a cup of coffee or espresso seems like a really bad idea. They're both stimulants and the last thing I need to be during the day is OD'd on my morning wake-up juice.
17I tried the DoubleShot (2 shots, cream, classic syrup & ice) today and it was delish. I wondered about the + Energy. I may try it.... someday,
18i usually get a boost in my smoothies at GNC or Jamba Juice so i guess now i have an alternative if i don't want the smoothie. i guess it's really interesting to see what these companies are coming up with since coffee is coffee and you can only sell the 'standard' for so long without getting boring right?
19It doesn't really change the flavor much at all, surprisingly
20I used to mix a can of Double Shot with a bottle of Frappacino. Regarding the energy shot, I might try it to see if I like it, but I don't hold much hope. The boosts used at Jamba Juice tend to really make my stomach uneasy.
