I don't actually use it for baking, I use it to help me be sure I'm eating the right amount of food. It's helped me lose weight.
Actually I lied, i have used it to bake too!
Of course, and I use it for so many things, not just baking. It's handiest when I need to portion things out.
CiaoBella: I'm not that brand-conscious when it comes to scales, but I would recommend getting a digital one. They're a lot more accurate (in that it's easier to discern small increments,
especially if you get one that has minimum increments of 0.1g), generally take up less space, and also normally have the option of switching between grams and ounces. Aside from recommending
a digital one, try to get one that can weigh up to at least 5kg, since that will allow for you to do your weighing directly in heavier mixing bowls/small saucepans/blenders even if you don't
generally cook in such large portions. The only downside is that digital scales tend toward the expensive side, but if you have a good snoop around, mine only cost me about US$15 and does all
of the above, all while taking quite a bit of torture from me. I'm sure you should be able to find one too.
I have a digital one I use when baking, especially bread. I didn't use on the brownies last night, but those are a little more forgiving. Plus, I have recipes that are from other countries
(outside the US) so the metric on the digital scale really helps with those. I'm sure it will come in handy as soon as my UK version of Jamie at Home arrives.
no - i don't have one and i don't think that i would really use one even if i did have one. i've seen them at the store and looked at them, but never really considered buying one. i think
that it's an extra step that i don't necessarily use for my cooking.
I love my kitchen scale. It's great for baking- no scrounging around for the proper measuring cup, you can dump everything in one bowl and keep on pushing the reset button, and obviously it
helps everything be more precise, therefore turning out better. Now, I get mad when my cookbooks don't also provide the ingredient's weight!
Yes I own a digital kitchen scale but not so much for baking but it measure out the exact portion of my food.
It's really important after gastric bypass surgery to keep track of the exact amount of food you are able to consume per meal.
But after I bought the scale I realized that I could now bake treats for people using professional pastry chefs recipes that are precise and require measuring ingredients.

My mom had one so she could measure food when she was dieting. I've never thought of them as useful beyond that.
I guess they could be good for recipes, but I'm not a recipe follower.

I don't and have been thinking about getting one. Can anyone suggest a good brand?

4Yes I have one just like that except it's not pink. I use it all the time. In fact, I used it this afternoon while baking a cake.

6No...I don't see myself ever really needing or using one either.
7I don't have one and I really don't see buying or using one.
8I may get one if it helps U loose weight...but I have so many other things for cooking.
9No point...
10My old roomate left one behind but I have yet to use it. I imagine I probably won't though...
11don't bake - but use it to measure out portion sizes...
12I have one ... it's OXO brand (which is awesome!). I use it for baking sometimes, but more than that, I use it for portion control.
13I totally want one!

17I bake ALL the time and have never used my scale for that, I use it to check my portions when I eat!
18Most of my recipes are metric and call for grams of this or that as opposed to cups. So the scale comes in very handy.
19I've been thinking of getting one for portion control. Thanks W for the tip about getting a digital one.
20I really want (and need) one. All the recipes in Europe are in grams.
21We have one, but I really only ever use it to measure out a serving of potato chips.
22umm no.....bigger protions are better, im not one to really care.....so yeah
23I'm a scoop and sweep girl but I'd like to buy one, preferably the digital scale for accuracy.

25Yes, I have one as I'm not great at guessing the amount of things I need. It's especially needed in baking as I think it matters more to get it right.
26no i dont have one and don't think I really need one. but the one pictured is really cute
