When I read that Oprah is going vegan as part of a 21-day cleanse, I thought: I could do that — if I had a personal chef! When well-prepared, vegan food can be quite delicious, and I've had some great gourmet meals at vegan restaurants.
But it's definitely a challenging way to eat, so I'd rather have someone cook it for me. How about you? Could you go vegan for 21 days?

Not just that I don't *think* I could do it - I know I don't *want* to do it.
1Sure, I'd try it. For just the 21 days. And I'd do my own cooking, but I'd need some recipe help!
2Im already 80% vegan. I eat seafood about once a week, and dairy about 1 serving 3-4 times a week. Its all about learning to cook with veggies! This is the best season to try too, when farmers markets are at their peak!
I did a 30 day pledge last year and I cant tell you how good my body felt! Unfortunately I am a sucker for fish and cheese, so I could never cut those out forever.
3I eat the same way SillyGirl, so this wouldn't be a huge change for me either (for 21 days -- not forever). I'm thinking about doing it!
4No way. I'm a dairy queen and could not forgo my beloved cheese!
5Dude, I am willing to do anything if someone was cooking for me for 21 days! How nice
6My answer was NO, but not because i couldnt, i just wouldnt. I am tired of oprahs fad obsessions.
7I'm with you fuzzles. It's the cheese I would miss.
8I already tried being a vegan because i decided to go on peta the site and they were talking about the cruelty they go through and there are videos and it was really sad i tried but i only lasted
92 days then i decided to become a vegetarian instead that lasted 5 days i know would have lasted longer if there options for vegans in fast food joints especially living in Canada it's really hard and there aren't a lot of options when you go grocery shopping if u live in the u.s. it's going to be easier they have a lot of options there.
Sorry, I was vegan for a year (and ate all the really healthy stuff--not just pasta like many vegans I knew) and I didn't feel any better than I do now that I eat meat and cheese again. So no.
10haha 80% vegan!? BS, your vegan or your not.
11Something I have always wondered. Can vegans give BJs or does that count as an animal product? Hmmm...
12:ROFL: j2n1n9!! Awesome!
13Why would I even want to try?? I LOVE being an omnivore.
14Yes, I would do it. I already avoid red meat and milk; I eat alot of Morningstar Chik Patties, Silk Light Soy Milk, Kashi Ceral. I would go vegan for 21 days, it would be a bit tough (i love Natures Promise Bread and Starbucks Cafe Mocha Candy) however I think it is possible to do.
15i've been a vegan for over a year now. it's really NOT that hard. there's replacements for just about everything, and it's SO much better for you. I love soymilk and soy icecream, they are so much better than cow's milk and normal icecream. plus, i've really opened my eyes to the different types of ethnic foods out there that i never would have tried before. plus, i haven't gotten sick at all in the past year, and it's a great way to lose some weight.
16Vegetarian would be a cake walk--vegan is hard!
17nope, have no desire too. i like my meat, cheeses and taters, good ole' home cooking for me!
18SillyGirl-If you eat fish, but no other meat, you're not almost vegan, you're not even a vegetarian, you're a pescetarian. Vegans don't eat any meat or fish, no dairy, no eggs, and they do not use animal by-products such as beeswax and gelatin. No wearing leather or wool either. Please don't call yourself a vegan, that's just going to confuse omnis. All of my baking is vegan, it's super easy, you just need to learn the options for egg substitutes, use Earth Balance instead of butter, and soy/rice/almond milk instead of cows milk. I occasionally eat cheese, and eggs if they're in a finished product. But I would never call myself a vegan, because it's simply not true.
19I've been vegan for going on 9 years now. Initially I did it because of food allergies (mainly dairy). I had horrible adverse effects from the crap they were putting in meat... antibiotics, hormones, etc. Since I lived in a very small town 9 years ago, we had no stores that sold the free range, organic meats.
No regrets for me either. I feel 1000% better. I eat a lot of veggies, quinoa, spirulina, smoothies, grains, etc... all the healthy stuff your *suppose* to eat anyway. I have a lot more energy... and feel *great*!
Go Oprah!!
20Couldn't do it because I am allergic to pretty much every source of protein except meat.
21I would never do it. My best friend's husband is vegan and she cooks everything for him. I've went to grocery stores with her an hour away from her house just to pick up fake cheese, egg substitute with no dairy, fake chocolate...oh, the list goes on
It might be healthier, but honestly, it's expensive and time consuming. Plus, I love cheese. A lot. Haha.
22Considering that salami is like my favorite food in the whole wide world, I probably wouldn't last.
23i do a vegan 28 day detox twice a year, and it is really invigorating and it helps you become creative with your foods, you realize all the bad stuff we eat, but at the end you really enjoy things in moderation.
24Sorry but no. I love meat. I am trying to cut back on red meat and stuff like that but I could not imagine not eating meat. I like dairy too so again no.
25I'll be your personal chef, Yum! I'd like to think I'm a pretty dang good vegan cook.
26Being veg*an is great. Did I like meat & dairy? Sure. But it doesn't compare to being vegan. Think about it, how many times have you ever felt GOOD about your food choices on a deeper level than "this tastes good"? I feel GOOD in so many ways every time I sit down to eat.
I'm a vegetarian, but I don't eat a lot of dairy. Haven't had cow's milk in 12 years, but I do love good cheese and I buy local/humanely raised eggs (which is a lot harder than you would think).
I'm excited that Oprah is raising awareness about veganism — it really is possible to eat well and be healthy on a cruelty-free diet.
27foxie.. my hometown is about 2.5 - 3 hours from yours. I used to live outside of Springfield, IL.
28Same here, I don't want to do it.
29vegan is going to be difficult obstacle but vegetarian could be easier to achieve.
30I'm just thankful that the local farmer's markets are now just starting their glorious season. Not a lot of produce available aside of leaf lettuce, plants and herbs at this point. But I always tend to eat healthier with our great, albeit short, local growing season.
31....but don't even THINK about touching my CHEESE!
32It's not for me.
33I was vegan for over half a year and made my own food. It took a lot of planning if I wanted variety and to stay healthy.
34I think what is even harder then giving up meats and dairy is that she is doing a cleanse that includes giving up breads/gluten products as well...I don't know the specifics, but lots of the processed breads so that limits even more. It really brings it down to fruits and vegetables.
Does anyone else's stomach get upset by soy and tofu? Or am I the only one?
35I already am vegan
36It's really not as hard as you'd think. Watch "Earthlings", if you can still eat meat after that, you're a freakin robot.
37Meat your Meat is another shocker or try "The Meatrix" basically go to PETA to gross you out! I'm actually allergic to beef and I am lactose intolerant, but any type of meat makes me gag if it gets near my face because of where it comes from.
Natalie Portman is a vegetarian, by the way

39You mean no "bacon wrapped hot dogs"?
40Sure! Although it would be a lot easier if I actually knew how to cook... anything ):
41Nope, it's medically unhealthy for me. My body needs animal protein. I was vegetarian for several months, and my lab results came back with some problems. The results were considerably different my lab results from my past. The only difference in my lifestyle was not eating meat. I went back to eating meat (like chicken breast and fish) for about a month. I re-took the lab tests, and everything was back to normal.
The vegetarian diet is not healthy for everyone.
42No, it's not healthy...if you're doing it wrong. You can eat cheese quesadillas, potato chips and chocolate all day...it's vegetarian. You have to eat healthy foods. And for the record, NO ONE "needs" animal protein. I'm in the medical field, have been for a long time now, and I've been veggie for 13. I'm wondering what lab tests you're referring to, because it's incredibly difficult to become protein deficient in this country. Not to mention the fact that it would take an incredibly long time. I'm doubting what you posted. To each his own.
43I feel much better since recently going vegan. For me, it's a combination of factors that made me decide to do it...I haven't eaten red meat or pork in 6 years, I gave up the rest of the meats for the new year (chicken, fish, etc.) and the only dairy product I consume is sugar free creamsicles, so I figure it's worth a shot, like a nice little challenge for myself.
But I do go downtown for the hubby lol...I gotta get some extra protein every now and then!
44i think i can do that , but it will be hard cus i love meat and cheese
45KITSON you are hilarious!!! I have to admit, I had the same thought in my head... glad someone else out there is thinking the same crazy things
46chiefdishwasher - fakin' bacon wrapped around tofu dogs.
There is a vegan adaptation for just about everything!
47nope i love meat and i love milk. couldn't do it ever.
48I have a zillion food allergies and would die of starvation on a vegan diet, so it's not for me.
49I love animals soooo mcuh, i dont like eating a burger, but they are good.....and i refuse to eat hot dogs....but i love some meat and going vegan would be difficult
