We've all been in crazy situations, and I want to know how you handle entertaining fiascoes and bad restaurant behavior. I'll present a situation and you tell me what you would do. Here's this week's scenario:
You're at a nice, chic restaurant where your table is next to an unlit fireplace. Instead of setting your purse and shawl on the ground, you place them on a shelf next to the fireplace. You have a lovely dinner with good food and great company. After paying the bill, you reach for your purse, and your shawl falls into a crack. You quickly pick it up but realize it's much heavier. Something is stuck to your shawl. Upon closer examination, you realize it's a sticky mouse trap with a furry dead mouse attached! What would you do?

I would demand to see the manager immediately. I would ask him to throw away both my shawl and the mouse. Although I had already paid for my meal, I would expect him to give me a complete refund plus extra to cover the cost of the shawl. I would walk out of the restaurant and probably never go there again.

First, I would scream my head off. And I'm not even all that afraid of mice.

7Picture is totally not cool... but I probably would've reacted in the same way as BabySugar. Though I'm guessing she took it a lot more calmly than I would've.
8I would defiantly not scream...not that I would be happy but I have had to kill my fair share of mice and its not so bad. Now finding one in a restaurant is a happy time at all, but at least they are doing something about it....mice just find ways to get places

10Yeah, that picture is awful! Speaking of which, I also would ask the manager why he is not using live traps.
11How terrible! I would also throw away the scarf and expect some sort of compensation.
But to be fair, I wouldn't judge the restaurant too harshly for having mice -- which are common -- and traps that are hidden in dark cracks.
But this is really terrible! So sorry, BabySugar. I hope it wasn't a favorite shawl.

12Also didn't need to see the mouse photo. And I'm not judging them that harshly, so if they treated the situation with the gravity that it demands, I would return. But I would expect some serious kissing-up.
13samisalsa--those sticky traps are a diagnostic measure. Many restaurants place them throughout the restaurant--in cracks, under cabinets etc. The idea is to check them daily so as to know about a pest problem ASAP. Clearly this restaurant failed to check diligently.
14I'd sure expect a free meal and a new shawl. The restaurant manager's response would determine if I would return or not.
15This is the thanks you show for free food? There are starving people who might have loved to have eaten either that mouse or that scarf!
16Am I the only person here that things the squished mouse face looks funny?? That picture just doesn't look real to me. I imagine there to be more blood or whatever.
Anyways, I would call the health inspector on them, and expect to have my meal paid and some money for a new scarf. Yuck.
17You should be comped your meal and the manager better give you a few more too. FYI, I have been in the kitchen of hundreds of restaurants.
18I'm with HappyKate. I live on a ranch and have encountered more than my share of rodents. Not my favorite creatures. My reaction would be to quietly summon the manager, explain the situation, and require disposal of the deceased. I could handle all this calmly...after all, I've had a lizard run up the leg of my jeans and back down to do a few laps around my ankle. True story.

20As a highly sensitive animal lover, the picture in this posts totally surpasses anything you could have written. Didn't we go over this when the picture of the puppy being grilled was on this site? PLEASE NO MORE PICTURES OF DEAD OR DYING ANIMALS.
21I wouldnt have screamed, I would have called someone over quietly and said "word up, my shawl just caught on a mouse trap you set and the critter it caught and thats icky so what are you going to do about that?" and leave it up to them.
Are people really upset by a picture of a dead mouse? i get more upset seeing paris hiltons wonky face on here?
22Thank you Caterpillar Girl, I think this situation can be handled with some class, we KNOW that restaurants are exposed to pests.
23I would do the same. Pay for my meal and my shawl. And I'd report them. Has to be a healthcode violation, right - dead animals in the dining room?
24EWWW!!! I wouldn't scream but I'd be pretty grossed out, and I don't think I'd eat there again. But at least you know they are taking steps to combat their pest problem.

26I wouldn't be so high maintenance about it. Most every restaurant deals with keeping mice and rats out. It's a given in the food industry. This restaurant sounds like it needs to do a better job at cleaning the corners. I'd ask for a comped meal, but I think asking them to pay for your scarf is a little ridiculous and over the top.
27I'd flip out, as politely as possible. And expect MAJOR compensation!
28I would discreetly register the problem with management after prying my winsome bride off the ceiling. Rodents (including cute squirrels) creep her out big-time!

31TWO deaths, emalove? Now, that's just unnecessary. I think not paying for your meal (neither you, nor the people whom you're with) is a much better alternative.

i'll never forget the news story a few years ago of a restaurant closed in australia because of pests - they painted the walls and floor and didn't bother to move a DEAD RAT, so they just painted OVER IT! in the dining room of the restaurant.
now i'm not hungry for lunch!!!!
33I would do exactly what partysugar did plus give a horrible review on yelp.com and make all my friends do the same.
34I didn't know this was posted so I am sorry I haven't replied to the responses. The manager was very nice about it actually. And, sadly, I think many of the restaurants in that area have mice problems so I wasn't freaked out about that as much as I was at seeing it land right next to me!
We had already paid the bill when this happened so I guess comping it was out of the question. But they have offered to give us a gift certificate and/or (I'm not sure about this) pay for the ruined purse and scarf.
To their credit, the meal was very good. I just think It'll be a while until I can return with clear mind.
