A few weeks ago, San Francisco found itself in the middle of a big heat wave. Everyone at the Sugar HQ was melting to their desks and in need of a cool treat. That's when I remembered an impromptu purchase I'd made the week before.I was at the local drugstore and noticed a display of Soda Pops Freezer Pops at the front counter. They were like old-school Otter Pops, only in soda flavors: Orange Crush, Dr Pepper, 7-Up, and A&W Root Beer. I kind of have a thing for Dr Pepper, so I picked up a pack of those. At only $2 a box (10 pops in each box), I probably should have picked up one of each kind. But I didn't, and we only had the Dr Pepper to taste. So how did it taste? Find out when you read more.
The popsicle — that definitely hit the spot during the heat wave — was nice, cool, and icy. However, it was also too sweet, and didn't taste much like Dr Pepper. There was that weird fruity-prune flavor that Dr Pepper has, but it wasn't as successful as Dr Pepper flavored Jelly Bellys.
Overall, I don't think I'd buy them again. They were a fun distraction, and definitely worth the 20 cents per popsicle, yet they weren't that satisfying. Next time I'll pick up the Root Beer flavor and see how that goes.
How about you? Have you tried these Soda Pops? If so, what flavor, and what did you think?

bummer! they sound like they would be great..but i could definitely imagine them being too sweet. i guess i'll just stick to my diet dr. pepper.
1Yummy. But can't you just use the old school method and just freeze the soda? I remember doing that when I was younger.
2Yeah, I'm partial to that Dr. Pepper flavor. I'll skip these - the flavor never seems to come out right in other products!
3I have the Dr. Pepper in my freezer right now! They are okay, but I might try the orange next or go back to my 300 ice pops for $4 that are a variety of flavors.
4i don't really like dr pepper - so i'm most likely not going to be into this icy treat, but i know lots of people who love it, so i'm passing this along!
5This is easy enough to make with a popsicle mold and a can of Dr. Pepper. Though I'm more partial to homemade pudding pops!
6I tried the A & W variety and had the same experience --- too sweet (and I LOVE sweet!) and didn't really taste like A & W, or any other kind of root beer. I had about 1/2 of one and threw it out.
7I'm with verily. I think I'll try making popsicles with canned Dr Pepper. Copied flavors seldom taste as good.
8That's too bad, I love Dr. Pepper. I have popsicle molds so I could just make my own if I wanted to.
9I love the Diet Dr Pepper Popsicles in the mix that Popsicle makes...I wonder if they come in diet!?!
10I don't like Dr. Pepper.
11I dig Dr. Pepper, and I just saw these on sale and wondered how they'd be. I'll probably have to find out for myself. My friend Jessica LOVES Dr. Pepper (has to be in a can) These would make a cute birthday gift for her. Ohmigosh I'm totally gonna get some and wrap them up for her. I tend to buy several small gifts to form one large gift basket if you will. That'll be cute I think.
12Thank you for referencing and linking to Otter Pops.
13What a trip down memory lane. I had forgotten all about those. I had them every summer as a kid.
I'll have to get some for my kids this summer.
We pretty much do homemade pops, but as a silly treat Otter Pops will be fun.
No thanks...
14i found a box of the variety pack at my local grocery store. Had a hard time telling the difference between the rootbeer and the Dr. Pepper but definately worth keeping my freezer. The pack had rootbeer, Dr Pepper, 7 Up and Orange Crush.
15Dr. Pepper is one of my favorite sodas so I am all about trying to find this. The 7Up one sounds refreshing
16I am actually eating the A & W Root Beer flavored ones right now. Unfortunately, they are a bit too sweet for me, and don't taste much like A & W Root Beer, which is my favorite Root Beer. Also, my brother is eating the 7-Up flavored ones right now, and he said that they taste like lemonade. I'm not sure if I will purchase these again.
17the 7up ones are AWESOME. the dr pepper ones sucked as did the root beer.
18The orange was good i think but my gf says they are nothing to write home about.
