Although he didn't score the job at Ramsay's up and coming restaurant in LA, Matt — the latest cheftestant to be kicked off of Hell's Kitchen — recently started a position as executive chef of Pizzicato in New Jersey. When I spoke with Matt yesterday he was in good spirits and happily expressed his feelings towards the HK experience. To see what the chef — whose now rooting for Bobby or Jen to win HK — had to say, read more.
PartySugar: How did it feel to be eliminated?
Matt: It felt great! No, seriously I was hoping I would go farther, but I accomplished what I wanted to accomplish. I went there to have the experience, to work with Chef Ramsay and that's what I did.
PS: Is Gordon Ramsay really as big of a jerk as he seems?
Matt: I have nothing but respect for Chef Ramsay.
PS: Why did you decide to go on the show in the first place?
Matt: I needed someone else other than my wife yelling at me.
PS: Ramsay was shocked by your interesting flavor combinations, where did you come up with them?
Matt: I've learned a lot from my mentor Chef Keith Mitchell. I learned all about flavors from him. You know I didn't do anything disgusting. I've done that dish after the show and people have liked it. It really is just a raw scallop with a little shaving of white chocolate. A lot of chefs became successful for being adventurous.
PS: Did you prefer working on the all-girl or all-boy team?
Matt: I got along with both teams. One girl on the girl's team — Corey is a manipulative bitch — but you know when it came to the dinner service the girls put everything aside and really worked as a team. I liked Bobby and some of the guys, but the girls were more professional.
PS: How did you feel when everyone started calling you Mattie? Is that a nickname you chose for yourself?
Matt: Ben started it. Ben is not that normal. I liked Ben, but I didn't realize he was a backstabber and was planning on kicking me off. I didn't really mind it [the name Mattie], no not really. My dad called me Mattie when I was little. I get called worst things by my best friend.

What was his favorite whine?
1Didn't Pizzicato see the show at all? Hire him??? NO WAY!
2I'd be willing to try that scallop. I guess.
3I was SOOOOOOOOOOO glad to see is sorry butt gone!
4Lame.
5He was such a whiny crybaby. His lower lip never stop trembling through the whole season!
6Yeah, I was ready for him to go. It was past his time. But I'm glad he's happy and has found a suitable place for himself in another restaurant.
7I like how he said that Ben was not normal.
But Matt as an executive chef? Hmmm.........
8It's about time he's gone! Should have been ousted many, many episodes ago!
9I've never heard of Pizzicato. It's not like he got hired for a well known restaurant in NYC.
10*mental note - dont go to that place*
11i guess he lives in my state now XD or did he always?
and man - he has a wife? wtf was she thinking???? ?
he may or may not be a talented chef, but my feeling is: "Would you care for a bite of cheese with that whine?"
12No one should comment on his food unless they have tried anything he has made. I for one have been to the restaurant and had his food. He is a very creative and amazingly talented chef. I am sure alot of what we saw on TV was all about the editing. Nothing for nothing he made very good TV. Just think how boring it would have been if he wasn't on the show this season.
If anyone is in Marlton NJ they should look up Pizzicato and try the food. It is absolutely amazing.
13Ms. Babybette1; you are his wife (in real life), so why would you even try to speak like you don't have a invested interest in him looing good. He is a bad cook. Pizza is a joke. Only about 60% of the visitors like the place (online voting) and it is rated 3 out of 5 stars.
