The London Opens in LA, No HK Chefs in Sight

Gordon Ramsay's Los Angeles restaurant, the London, opened last night with a star-studded dinner service. However, the cheftestants from Hell's Kitchen were nowhere in to be found. This makes me wonder if the HK prize — to be chef of the London — is a little exaggerated. Perhaps they merely get to be a line cook there? Items from the menu are far more sophisticated than the dishes made on the reality show. The menu includes:

  • Baked foie-gras custard, crispy duck tongue, micro greens
  • Monkfish with crispy chicken skin, lemon-thyme consommé
  • Smoked pork belly with roasted Scottish langoustine, celeriac, and apple

For some reason I can't imagine Bobby, Jen, or Corey making any of these dishes. What do you think? Does one of the HK contestants really work at the London?

Well, in the interest of continued viewing, I'm sure they're not going to show who "won" until the show is over.
And no, I can't see any of the contestants cooking those dishes unless someone else is watching over them.
Did that say "Monkfish with crispy chicken skin"!?!?

I'm sure Gordon and the winner are under contract to not reveal them until after the finale airs. And then it'll probably still be for publicity's sake, because yeah I don't buy that any of them could really hold their own in a restaurant like that. And wow, I think I see two women in that picture (maybe two, definitely one).

There's no way Ramsey would risk his reputation by letting any of those HK fools run one of his restaurants. It's definitely exaggerated. Although, as the others have pointed out, I'm sure fox wouldn't let the winner near that restaurant until after the show finale.

Duck tongue?! People seriously eat that? Gross! As for this years contestants they all suck. I cant see any of them running any resturant as chef.

I'd like to consider myself a foodie, but I ain't eating no crispy duck tongue or chicken skin - yuck! I don't even buy chicken with the skin. That is just gross to me. And I'm a Gordon fan, but yuck!

No, I don't think any HK contestant is gonna cook at his restaurant.

Word on the street is that the HK winner will be just a plain ol' sous chef at the new resto--albeit a highly paid one, thanks to winning the show.

Both duck tongue and crispy chicken skin are awesome when done right. The skin is like a crackling - not the leathery crap you pull off of a chunk of KFC. And tongue has this amazing flavor to it.

Yeah, the person that wins is really going to be the head sous chef. Not the executive chef. (At least according to the article I read about the opening of the restaurant.)

And they haven't started working there yet - it will be in a few weeks. I imagine when the show wraps up.

you know, i was wondering about that same thing last night. when there was a picture of david beckham at the opening, i figured that someone should ask about who the executive chef was so we would know who won HK. maybe there's no chef there becuase they knew that the photo would get leaked out? who know.s..

I want to eat at one of his restaurants. i love him ha.
the prize has to be exaggerated. no offense but they all still seem like such newbies on the show ... and .. no offense. i mean they can cook better than me...but none of them seem to have their act together enough to do anything like that

I really hope The London does well. Early reviews haven't been that stellar. Oh, and NO way can any current HK contestant work in such a restaurant.
