By now I'm sure you're all aware of Rachael Ray's garbage bowl technique. She keeps a bowl on the countertop during cooking, and stashes all the trash and bits in the bowl. It's actually a pretty great tip and helps make cleanup a breeze. I sometimes follow it myself, and just use one of my smaller mixing bowls.
Recently Ms. Ray has actually started selling her own garbage bowls ($17.95). What do you guys think of them? I'd rather use a bowl I already have. After all, do I really need a special bowl for "garbage"?

I like the idea of having a garbage bowl, but I really don't see the point in buying a special , brand new one!
1$18 to be lazy enough to not just throw it in the trash each time?
2RR herself even said that she thought the idea of making a bowl for garbage was silly but she was asked for it so many times that she just obliged...
3That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. I am not opposed to the concept but come on.. the woman is evil and must be stopped
4yes, i just use my own bowl if i need it. i like the idea, but the fact that she sells one just feeds into my disdain for her. she's everywhere, and i'm starting to hate her and her big smile and her sammies and her stupid cornball jokes.
ahem. sorry.
5I love the IDEA, but I don't need to buy a special designated "garbage bowl." I can use one of my own bowls, or just a plastic grocery bag that I can toss when I'm done.
6I use a plastic grocery bag for this purpose. a bowl would be fine too, but not the one pictured.
7I imagine that we all have bowls already in our kitchen sufficient to the purpose that are much better looking.
As much as I hate to like anything to do with Rachael Ray, I do like the idea of a garbage bowl. I'm pretty sure my mother has been doing something like this for longer than Rachael's been alive, though, so maybe it's really that I like my mother's idea.
8It looks like it's made of the same kind of material for urns for dead people ashes.
9It's a nice idea if your trash can is stored way across the room. But no one needs an $18 bowl for it. Use one of your regular ones, a bag, or go buy a used one from Goodwill for like a $1.
10The sad thing is that we're mocking it...but if you go to the bowl link, there's tons of happy reviews for it. Her fans must be completely brainwashed.
11Don't need it. I could use a regular bowl...or walk over to the garbage.
12I use a plastic grocery bag.
13I use this handy innovation called a trash can.
14I love the garbage bowl idea! I tried it once because of Rachel Ray and now I do it all the time. I may even buy her bowl, I like the design. The pattern isn't my favorite but who cares, it's a freaking garbage bowl! I'm not the biggest RR fan out there, but her 30 minute meal plan is a life-saver, especially when I have a family to feed and very little time to do it!
15I always thought this bowl seemed very un-Rachael Ray. Hello, you have to clean it after every use! That's one more bowl to clean. And if it's filled with trash, which means its going to be a dirty gross one to clean.
I use something from what I am making as my garbage bowl. Like chicken comes in those little trays, so I gather my garbage in that.
16its cool but I wouldnt use it as a "garbage bowl"
17I don't know if it's just me, but I always seem to have millions of bowls, so I sure don't need to buy one for a specific purpose. But if people want to buy a bowl just for that, this one looks alright, I guess.
18I do the same as you, Party. My friend puts a plastic grocery bag right next to him and throws it away when he's done. RR's bowl is a waste of money.
19i love the idea of the bowl, especially for baking, or any recipes involving eggs. i just don't want to run across my kitchen (my counters are on the other side from the trash, can't help that - it's built in) with dripping egg shells. i have a garbage disposal in my sink, so when it's time to clean up, the organic refuse goes into the sink with the bowl.
i have no opinion on rachel ray. she came up with a good recipe for red velvet black-and-white cookies, at least. you all realise it was probably her marketing execs who came up with this bowl - not her - right?
20No need to buy a separate bowl. That's just stupid. Use what you have on hand. The garbage bowl technique is handy. Mom always used a mod version. She just put a plastic grocery bag in the sink and threw stuff in there when she was prepping. Mom was a genius the bombest cook ever.
21maybe if I had just come from space, and had no bowls I would buy one, but I have bowls. I usually just use an empty container of something used in the recipe that I'm going to throw away anyway.
Having some place to put garbage right on the counter is really handy though, especially when making huge batches of things involving eggs or preparing large amounts of vegetables.
22I use a shopping bag for some things, but I also have a garbage disposal for things like peels and cores. And really? You need a specially-purchased bowl for your trash?
23I don't necessarily use a "garbage bowl", but I agree with the concept of making one trip to the trash rather than fifty. I wouldn't spend $18 for the bowl.
24its kinda strange
25I just bring my trash can over. I have a tiny kitchen though. If I had a bigger kitchen I'd just throw it in one of those bags from the grocery store that always seem to end up everywhere.
26Of course everyone in this group will talk trash (pun intended) about it since no on likes Racheal Ray.
But I like her, and I am a chef and a garbage bowl is necessary when cooking. We normally just use a beat up plasic container but at home I would love to have this. Its cute and can be used for more than a 'garbage' bowl.
Totally would and will buy!
27I just put my trash can near whatever i need it to be near. It's not that big.
28I think it's a good idea. I just use my recycle bucket (it's like a bowl). Huge fan of RR and I'm sure plenty of you would love to be in her shoes financially.
29I like the design of the bowl, but I don't know why it has to be limited to garbage use.
I try to use packaging like party mentioned. I also have a pull-out trash can so I just slide that out if I don't have anything big enough to hold all the garbage.
30Good idea, but $18 for a mixing bowl you can get at Ikea or Walmart for waaaay less? Totally lame. It has nothing to do with trashing Rachel Ray, it is just stupid to spend $18 on a bowl that you're just throwing garbage in.
31I use the garbage bowl technique every time I cook. I think its brilliant, but I would never ever buy a bowl just for garbage!
32It's ugly. I'd just use a regular mixing bowl for that.
33I love the idea...but you don't need some special $18 bowl to do it
34I saw these at the store and thought it was the stupidest idea.
Here is an idea that will not cost you thing!
35PLACE YOUR TRASH CAN NEAR YOUR COOKING AREA AND JUST DUMP EVERYTHING IN THERE! Look I just saved everyone one less thing to wash and $18- use it towards your next gas purchase.
That "gb" belongs in the garbage along with the annoying RR.
36Im with PartySugar too. I just place all my trash in the tray of whatever meat i used or use one of the smaller plastic bags from the fruit and veggie area.
37I think most women (the ones I know anyway) use plastic grocery bags. They simply place them on the counter top, throw all the trash or leftovers in it, tie it, and then toss it into the trash can like most people in the world. I mean we have to get rid of those pesky plastic grocery bags anyway, so why not use them for this reason *Rachel Ray* duh.
I would not pay $18 for an ugly bowl. I'm with the majority of females...plastic, plastic, plastic bags for me and my countertop trash.
38talk about ugly!
39why not use a giant bowl you already have. or at least buy a cheap one for a buck or two. this 18 dollar bowl looks like vomit as well.
40That is a huge waste of money. I just use a garbage can when I am cooking. Duh.
41I love it. I use a garbage bowl for when I am cooking. I cook with a lot of produce, and need to peel and cut a lot. Its nice having a garbage container right in front of me on the counter.
42However I use this old coors light mini bucket found in my parents basement.
Just a RR gimmick, but if you like her, then go for it.
43I have the glass nesting set from WS and I've been using the big bowl far onion skins, potato peels, etc and they were like $24 for like 10 bowls.
44Honestly, what is wrong with just going to a charity shop and finding some cool, funky (and if you are lucky, really sweet little retro number) bowl and using THAT for garbage?
I'd rather spend a couple of dollars on a used one, know that served a charity instead of a celebrity cook, and kept something perfectly re-useable/recyclable in business....and take the other 17 to buy something fun to cook!
Seriously this is mind-boggling to me...I cannot imagine people spending money on it.
45Like most, I like the idea... but I wouldn't spend the money on one.
46You would think that someone who cooks so much would design or arrange their kitchen in such a way that the trash can would not be too far from the cooking area.
47Undecided/indifferent
48Just put the garbage next to your feet. Done... AND you don't have an extra bowl to wash.
49I love the idea and use it sometimes, but I hate the fact that she's trying to sell them for 20 bucks!!
