According to the calendar, there's still a couple of weeks left in spring. However the Girl Scouts in my neighborhood are ringing it in loud and clear. Coming from the street below my office are the cries "Girl Scout COOKIEEEEES. GIRRRRRLLLLL SCOUT COOOOKIEEEEES!" (which, in case you didn't know, is one of the official sounds of spring). I am praying they do not take credit cards, because if they do, it will be all over. I'll gobble up a couple boxes of Samoas and a Thin Mint for good measure. But only a couple of boxes, and not 118 non-paid for boxes like this guy.

OOOOhhh BOY! My favorite is the Thin Mints.
1I voted Samoas, but Tagalongs and Thin Mints are up there on my list. The thing is you can get them year round--or their look/taste-alikes from Keebler Fudge Shoppe.

3LOL i do love those trefoils - that's why I won't carry cash when going to the grocery store (They are always there!!) I try to walk out behind some other people so they don't get to me! No shame!

5Dchic, haha, my mom would have to agree with you.
She gives up sweets every Lent, and currently she has two boxes of Samoas stashed beneath her bed and biscottis in the freezer so that she can pig out midnight on Easter!

11Trefoils! Yum! I have been driving around looking for the girls but I can't find them anywhere. Watch out for the mad women behind the wheel trying to track down girl scout cookies!! I thought the lemon ones were cancelled this year and they brought in the brownie ones? I'm not a lemon fan, so I wasn't real sad, but I wonder if the brownie ones are any good?

15Hahaha it's good to know I am not the only crazy one when it comes to these cookies....when I'm down to my last box, I start panicking about where I can locate a Girl Scout to give me my fix! LOL
16Radarkitty, they discontinued the lemon coolers, but they have a new lemon cookie to take its place. The brownies are disgusting and horrible, and whatever they use instead of sugar has one gnarly aftertaste. I've lost count, but I think we've bought 21 boxes of cookies. 5 were for a guy at work, but the rest were all Jackson and me.
Tagalongs for me, Samoas for Jackson, and a couple boxes of thin mints just for good measure.
17Ok this may sound a little shocking to everyone, and I fear I may be the only gal in America who feels this way but I dont like girl scout cookies. Never have. Don't get the hype. The way that I look at it there are just another processed store bought cookie...that could never beat out homemade goodness.
18ohmigod samoas. i'm pretty quiet and keep to myself at my job...one day my manager offered me a samoa(s?) and he told me that he has never seen me have such a huge smile on my face in the whole time i have been working there (since october) hehehe. i kind of have an obsession with caramel...and coconut... =D
19I've been a Girl Scout leader for seven years, and was a Girl Scout myself for eight. I just wanted to let you all know how much we appreciate your support. Yes, there are a lot of parents out there who do all the work for the girls but there is SO much to be gained by the girls when the leaders and parents allow the girls to do the sale themselves.
I have led four or five different troops during my time as a leader (some with my kids, some others that just needed a leader) and the best cookie experience I had was with an outreach troop at a school where I used to live. This troop was primarily a third grade brownie troop, but we didn't turn anyone away, so as a result we had 17 girls ranging in age from second grade brownies to fifth grade juniors. In that council the troop earned .50 per box of cookies sold and each girl earned $2 per case in cookie money that could be spent on Girl Scout activities. This troop's families did not have a lot of money to spare and these girls took their selling very seriously. We rehearsed how to sell; discussed the safety and internet rules; made a troop goal; and the girls made individual girls. These girls worked their hind ends off and we sold almost 4,000 boxes of cookies between pre-sale and booth sales. They kept track of their orders, helped me tally the totals, kept one of those "thermometer" goal charts (and imagine the pride they felt when they shattered that and then doubled it!)...the shy girls learned to talk to customers and the bold girls learned to step back and give the quieter girls a chance. Everyone got the chance to handle cash and make change (under the eye of the leaders, of course!). We reviewed our plans post-sale and talked about what we wanted to do differently next year.
Imagine their pride when they were able to tell their parents that in addition to going on a camping overnight and taking a trip to build-a-bear, that we were also going to be able to pay the girls' registration fees for next year, buy junior vests for the girls who were bridging to juniors, and also pay for our program the next year. Many of the girls were also able to use their personal "cookie dough" to pay for day camp or to help pay for resident camp that summer.
It was one of the best experiences I've ever had. So thank you for buying cookies even when you think you shouldn't. If you don't know where to find a Girl Scout, you can find a council near you by going to girlscouts.org and looking under Council Finder. Call the office--they'll sell you cookies and direct the money toward council programming, including the campgrounds.
If you really can't or don't like cookies, I would encourage you to ask if the girls are doing an "outreach" sale--we've sent cookies to homeless shelters, firefighters, military personnel and their families, etc.
Finally, if you have the time, especially if you are in your 20s or 30s and don't have kids, please consider volunteering for Girl Scouts. You can take on a troop or do a one-time thing, but it's so important for girls to see women of every age and circumstance so that they can truly see all the possibilities out there for them.

21there are different names for the cookies depending on who the bakers are. from the girl scout website:
Do-Si-Dos® or Peanut Butter Sandwich: A sandwich cookie. The round, bumpy perforated oatmeal cookie top and bottom surround a peanut butter-flavored layer inside. Do-Si-Dos® used to be called Gauchos. These cookies come in an orange box. Little Brownie Bakers calls them Do-Si-Dos®. ABC Bakers calls them Peanut Butter Sandwiches.
Trefoils or Shortbread: These shortbread cookies are shaped like the Girl Scout Trefoil design. Scot Teas were a similar, lighter sugar cookie made by the now defunct Burry. These cookies come in a blue box. Little Brownie Bakers calls them Trefoils; ABC Bakers call them Shortbread.
Tagalongs® or Peanut Butter Patties: These are round cookies with a layer of peanut butter on top, and covered in chocolate. These cookies come in a red box. Little Brownie Bakers calls them Tagalongs®; ABC Bakers call them Peanut Butter Patties.
Samoas® or Caramel deLites: These are round doughnut-shaped cookies about two inches in diameter with a hole in the center, covered in caramel and toasted coconut, and then striped with chocolate. These cookies come in a purple box. Samoas® are made by Little Brownie Bakers. The ABC version is called Caramel deLites.

i am also in California (peninsula/SF bay area) and they have caramel delites here and in Socal where my parents live. Not sure why the name diff - I always thought it was because "Samoas" weren't PC. Anyway, apparently it's regional which is probably why in GA there are no all-abouts.

My favorite are Thin Mints! Love those!!!!!!! My second favorite, I can't remember the name of, because our region doesn't have them.
They're the little powdered sugar covered melt in your mouth lemon things. Ohhhhh SO good!

24I loooove Girl Scout Cookies! Animal Crackers were my favorite, but I don't know if they offer them anymore. Otherwise I also love the Shortbread and the Peanut Butter Patties.
Animal Crackers were my #1 cookie though!

And they were called Animal Tresures, not Animal Crackers. So I guess the Thanks-a-Lot cookie is what I like the best!
26My Moms whole family is super into the Girl Scouts - Mima's in her 80s and she still goes to the national meetings and such. She had six girls (including my mom) who were all GSs, and myself and all of my cousins have been too, with most of my aunts serving as troop leaders. Based on that alone, I am a GS Cookie Addict.
I LOVE the Tag-a-longs (particularly out of the freezer) as well as the DoSiDoes. I love to crumble Thin Mints over ice cream, and I use vanilla frosting to make sandwiches out of the Trefoils. Not the healthiest option, but delicious!
Oh, and The Hubs is nutso for Samoas. And now, I'm going to go get some Tagalongs from my freezer. Yay!
27samoas rock! tagalogs taste like wax to me, don't get the appeal. this year i did not make the purchase of gs cookies, dh did. so we have thin mints and do-si-dos

33A fun story to share about Girl Scout cookies:
When the Wii was coming out, there as a long line of nerdy (but adorable) boys outside waiting in line for one... they were all acting very well, and you could see tons of snack foods, water, soda, etc.
A very pretty high school aged Girl Scout showed up with her younger sister and got almost EVERY SINGLE boy in that line to buy a box (or four). It was so funny, and she later confided in me that they were hitting up every single Best Buy, Target, etc b/c she knew the boys would be there waiting, and hey, who doesn't want delicious cookies from a pretty girl?
34It's interesting that the names are different from the ones we sell around here. Well, my favorite is Caramel deLites (or Samoas).
35I actually like the Little brownies- they taste like oreos , kind of, even though they are sugar free. So its not too bad for a sugar free cookie. I really like the Tagalongs, as well -when I want to cheat a little more on my diet

37aaaw man, this brings some good memories from when i was a girl scout! It was so exciting going to everydoor selling these babies, my fave are tagalongs, do-si-dos, thin mints and samoas. i miss those cookies soooo much
38In our area (KY) there is a new cookie this year. It is called Dulce De Leche which means "candy of milk" in Spanish. It has caramel chips and drizzled on top with caramel and the cookie is made with a hint of cinnamon. Everyone who has tried the new cookie says it is now their favorite. My daughter and I agree with them!!
39The only thing is my favorite is not there this year. I LOVED the Lemon Coolers, but this year there is a Lemon Challet and it is not the same. None the less this house will have cookies.

41The Do-Si-Dos used to be called Savannahs then they changed to peanut butter creames then changed again-I love the "Do-si-dos" and the Thin mints.
42My childhood fave was the Savannah/Do Si Do but the one I love now is the Cafe cookie which for some weird reason is not available where I live (Central Valley/Northern CA). I stock up on the Thin Mints for care packages for my relatives in college and overseas. My husband actually bought his first box of Thin Mints this year...now he's totally waiting with bated breath for next year! LOL Those Dulce de Leches sound over-the-moon!
