Ingredients
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 to 1/3 pound chorizo, casing removed, finely chopped (about 1 cup)
1 pound ground pork
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, grated or finely chopped
2 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons ground coriander
1 teaspoon allspice
Salt and pepper
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Grated peel and juice of 1 lime
1 cup chicken broth
One 8-ounce can tomato sauce
4 Portuguese rolls or submarine rolls, split
4 deli slices Swiss cheese
3 to 4 large dill or half-sour pickles, chopped
1 bag plantain or other chips
Directions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the chorizo and cook, stirring, until browned, 2 minutes.
- Add the pork and cook, crumbling it with a spoon, until browned, 3 to 4 minutes.
- Stir in the onion, garlic, paprika, coriander, and allspice; season with salt and pepper to taste and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, lime peel and lime juice and mix well; stir in the chicken broth and tomato sauce and simmer for a couple of minutes.
- Lightly toast the rolls under the broiler. Pile the meat mixture onto the roll bottoms. Cover with the Swiss cheese and broil until melted, about 30 seconds.
- Scatter the pickles on the sandwiches, cover with the roll tops, and serve with the plantain chips alongside.

The source of this recipe makes me instantly suspicious.
3ah yummy.... this is reminescent of childhood dinners in the summer. the sloppy joes ALWAYS had to be accompanied by Van De Kamp's pork n beans!
4I used to eat these all the time as a kid. We'd have these only once in a blue moon since every day was, well, Chinese food. Only special occasions warranted a sloppy joe.
Or in even more rare cases - Pizza Hut!
5Yummy - can you tell me more about Portuguese rolls? Hubby is Portuguese and we've never had these. Do they sell them in CA bay area?
6I never saw a Sloppy Joe with cheese on it. I think I'd pass on that. But I'm a big fan of Portuguese rolls, and that sounds much better than the hamburger buns I grew up eating them on.
7Where is the CHRORIZO from?
8I always wondered what sloppy joes were! We don't have them here, but the name puts me right off!
9That's what sloppy Joe's are????????
hmmmmm sounds like it could be good, but not something I'd make lol
10sloppy joes are usually made with ground beef, and of course the sauce(a tomatoey-worcesterchirey sauce, lol) but these sound good with the sauasage instead. Cheese is really good on sloppy joes, imo. Ms660bk, we love chinese food!
