The Los Angeles Times ran a story this week about the growing popularity of cask-conditioned ales, which are yeastier, unpasteurized beers usually served at 55 degrees. Some people don't like drinking beer that lukewarm, though I have one friend who loves cask ales because he prefers the taste of beer when it's room temperature. What about you?

I read this story. Beer is becoming the new wine.
1The poll is a little misleading though. Cask conditioned ales aren't served 'lukewarm', they're served at cellar temperature, which only feels lukewarm if you've been drinking icy-cold lager for the past hour. Cellar temperature is about 10 degrees cooler than room temperature, and it's the perfect condition to release the more delicate flavors that a well-balanced ale has to offer. Cold numbs the taste buds, so while an ice-cold lager is great for quenching thirst, it's not so great on delivering flavor.
I like my beer at cellar temperature, which is somewhere in between "chilled" and "room temperature", and it never gets up to "lukewarm", which I take to be somewhere close to coffee that's been out for about an hour.
My local multi-tap serves English ales but does so on draught and chilled, so I have to let my glass sit for 5 - 10 minutes before drinking it to let the flavors open up.
2i know people love their beer but i'm not a fan. many a nights of high school keggers ruined the taste for me. just even smellling the stuff makes my stomach turn now.
3I like beer SUPER cold. Really really cold. Like so cold, I keep glasses in the freezer or will stick the can in for about 10 minutes before drinking it...gosh now I want one!
4I usually only have beer in the summer, so it's gotta be ice cold for me. I won't do it in public, but I actually put ice in beer when I'm with friends! And a couple of grean olives, a.k.a. a Milwaukee Martini.
5Ice cold, but no actual ice on my beer, thats just wrong. Only in the summer... or all the time like when I used to be at home and summer lasted all year round.
6An ice cold beer on a hot day is amazing.
7It depends on the beer. I love ice cold frosty beer but a super cold guinness would not be right!
8I agree with sfbutterfly, it truly depends on the beer. If I'm drinking "causual" beer (i.e. Coors, Miller, etc.) I like it ICE cold. Lagers are good cold, but not quite ICE cold; Ales I tend to like warmer than a lager, too cold and you loose the complexity of the flavors. And even then, there's a tone of variation in the tempuratures, Stouts and strong porters as well as highly complex beers often taste better at "cellar" tempurature. Fruit beers and less complex beers are better cold, because if they are a little on the warmer side, then the taste can be "off".
Ohh, this is just a cruel conversation......8 months until I can partake in my favorite beverage again. The biggest downside to pregnancy in my opinion. LOL.
9Ice cold. I hate warm beer. Yuck. I could definitely go for an icy cold Corona light now!
PartySugar, my brother does that. He puts a beer in the freezer for a bit before he drinks it. A few times he has left one in my freezer by mistake. And I've come across exploded beers way too many times because of him! I'm always yelling at him for it.
10I actually love my beer boiled. In Germany and Poland you can order it that way in some bars during the winter.
11Im so weird when it comes to beer. I can't drink canned or bottled.
But I can drink draft. I think its more aerated, fresh (especially at busy bars) and its so cold. And I also can only drink beer if i'm eating, I can stand around and drink beer.
And no matter what they advertise, beer fills me up and makes me full!
12I dont drink beer but if I did I'd want it cold
13I want my beer cold unless it's a guiness. I only like it icy if it's a Michelada made with a Corona, lots of lime and salt.
14I don't drink beer, but if I did I would want it ice cold.
15Ice cold beer? only cheap beer that you'd rather not taste....
I prefer my beer to be chilled, but not cold or super cold, I buy my beer for the tatse so I like to actually be able to taste it..
16Same for me, what kind of beer are we talkin' here? I'll say my fav., Killians, I like chilled and if it gets room temp it's still good.
17I like my beer chilled, not ice cold (there's a reason why Coors light has an indicator when it's ice cold)
18I like my beer chilled, not ice cold (there's a reason why Coors light has an indicator when it's ice cold)
19I tend to drink my beer at about cellar temperature. That's basically a beer kept in my pantry that's tossed in the fridge for 5-10 minutes before drinking. Sometimes I drink them straight out of the pantry and they're never actually warm.
20No beer for me. I like my whiskey room temperature.
21ehh i'm not a fan, but i would like to try chocolate beer - i saw it once on style network.
22I don't drink beer but I know that a lot of people prefer their beer cold. Some of my friends actually prefer it warm which just sounds so gross to me.
23I'm with esk -- the cheaper the beer, the colder I drink it!
24i like my beer uber cold.
25for some reason it tastes better to me.
I have about one beer a year, and I want it iced cold. Once it starts getting to room temperature, I lose all interest in it.
26The temperature of the beer depends entirely on the type of beer (http://www.beerutopia.com/?p=187). Proper beer temp can be anywhere from 32-61 F (http://www.ratebeer.com/Story.asp?StoryID=479). Those that say they like their beer ice cold probably don't really like beer and numbing their taste buds is the only way they can choke it down.
27I agree that it depends on the beer and the cheaper the beer the colder. I am a big stout fan, so definitely not ice cold. Beer is becoming the new wine and I love it.
28I'm with jogar on this one- if you drink beer ice cold, you probably don't like beer. I personally only really enjoy stouts and porters, so around 50 degrees fahrenheit is my ideal. Also, beer has been "the new wine" in places like Philadelphia and Portland for a while now.
29I don't drink beer. But if I ever did I would think the colder the better would taste better. But NOT ice cold of course.
30If it's cheap beer like Keystone Light or Milwaukee's Best Light, I like it really really cold so it's a little less cheap-tasting, lol. But if I'm savoring a nice Leinie's Honey Weiss or a Fat Tire, I like it chilled but not super cold...I think the flavor comes through better.
31I like room temperature, I guess its the Brit in me.
32I am possibly the weirdest college student on the face of the planet. Maybe it's because I am older. Anyway, I HATE beer and pizza.
33i like it suuuuper cold... like, i would make a popsicle out of beer if i could...
gotta have it in a frosty beer glass or mug too!
34I agree with the few people before me, if you only like your beer super cold, you probably don't really like beer much. Some beer is best chilled, others not. I love beer, to an inappropriate degree.
35I don't drink beer.
36cold cold cold. Cold beer is amazing in the summer.
Warm beer = ewwww
37ice cold to chilled. The warmer it gets the flatter and nastier it tastes. It's like drinking champagne or soda warm. Yuck!
