Most of the food lovers I know were pickier eaters as kids. Over the years, as we try more foods, we discover that tastes we once disliked have transformed into deliciousness. I don't know about you, but once I start liking a new food, I can't get enough of it. When I first realized I liked brussels sprouts, I went on a serious brussels sprouts eating binge. Does this happen to you? What formerly reviled foods do you now get excited to eat?

I wouldn't eat pasta! I think I was just trying to be contrary.
1i wouldn't touch avocados when i was a kid. now, i eat them almost every day in a salad. i cant get enough of them
2I wasnt picky at all as a child, I ate basically everything, BUT i wouldnt eat COLD food, like cold leftovers. My dad would get a tupperware full of cold spaghetti out and just start eating it and i would get so grossed out. As an adult I have gotten over that, mostly because during the hurricanes i HAD to eat cold food.
3i was never a picky eater. Growing up if I ever questioned what I was eating my parents would not tell me what I was eating until after I tasted the food. I usually ended up liking everything. Worked pretty well for me. I love all foods and new food discoveries. Yay Food
4Tomatoes!
5I did the opposite: I stopped eating pickles, peanut butter (well I get nauseous from it now, and get sick when I eat it), raisins.
I never ate jelly. I also still hate lima beans.
I'm weird.
6LOL...why does everyone have to knock brussel sprouts?? Look at the little girl staring at the sprout ready to cry. I LOVE B.SPROUTS! You just gotta cook 'em the right way
Yum, maybe you can have a week-long series on different tasty ways to reintroduce people to
those yummy green balls of goodness!
7When I was little I hated olives. Now I LOVE them.
8SugarFree,
I very much agree with your post on brussels sprouts. I hated them until I found a wonderful way to cook them. Just toss them in a little olive oil, salt and pepper. Roast them in the oven until crispy on the outside. NUM!!!
9"once I start liking a new food, I can't get enough of it."
Me too!
I used to hate sandwiches and, basically, anything that involves bread. I'm over that now.
10When I was little my brother and I wouldn't eat cheeseburgers. We loved hamburgers, but wouldn't try cheeseburgers. At some point, we were convinced to try cheeseburgers and realized they're fantastic! Ever since then (around 22 years) whenever my parents think I should try something, they say "cheeseburger." It worked to get us to try SO many things over the years!
11Mushrooms.
Bell peppers.
Cheese in non-melted form.
Cherry Pie.
Fish.
Shellfish.
Lamb.
Horseradish or wasabi.
I love these foods now... accept fish, lamb and horseradish and wasabi. Still workin on it.
12i guess i still am a picky eater.
13i used to hate tomatoes & crab but now i love them! i can't remember what else i used to dislike at the moment.
This happened to me with eggs and pizza. I hated both as a child, but once I grew up and tried some that were cooked properly (non-rubbery eggs, non-greasy pizza) I couldn't get enough.
One food I can never get over my distaste for is raw tomato. Yuck!
14Raw fish and tomatoes. Now both are on my top ten fav list.
15bell peppers. I love/loved the taste they would give food but I didnt like to actually eat them but I am whistling a different tune now!
16As a kid, I thought eggplant was revolting. Now, I love it, while my girlfriend still finds it revolting.
17However, she did her part to turn me on to olives. Though a healthy number of dry gin martinis also did that too.
Um, veggies of all kinds:)
Really, I never would touch carrots, broccoli, sprouts, sushi, seaweed, sweet pickles, zucchini, corn, eggplant, bell peppers, etc. and now I'm a health nut and absolutely LOVE them all! Well, except for onions, cauliflower and green bells.
Weird thing is that this past year my mum decided to mention how I used to eat up olives like crazy when I was really little..I'd eat them straight from the jar and just gobble them up...and now I loathe them hehe.
18That's an easy one: asparagus
19I used to hate brussel sprouts, tomatoes, onions. I like them all now. But I still hate lima beans.
I really don't like apple pie... something about the cinnamon. But then again artificial cinnamon aromas and flavors give me a major headache.
20The only thing I don't like is Lima Beans, and I don't think I will ever like them. Sadly enough.
21I used to never to lime or cherry anything. Especially artificially flavored lime or cherry things. But the real thing too.
Now I love a margarita, or key lime pie, cherry too.
My best friend hates honey, mustard and jelly. And I can never understand why!!!
I'lll never like mayonaise
22tomato soup.
23I disliked all kinds of vegetables, then I figured out about 16 years later my Mom was horrible at cooking them, and all they needed were butter and salt to make them taste better. I still dislike limas and brusselsprouts though. I used to hate raw tomatoes, and while I dislike biting into one (a texture thing), I like them on a hoagie or diced in a salad something
I still HATE bacon. and sour cream.
24when i was a little girl i hated scramble eggs only boiled but as i got older one day there was nothing to eat and for some reason i wanted scramble eggs...hmmm now if only if i can like yogurt
25I used to HATE tomatoes, I still highly dislike them BUT if they're on a sandwich I will leave them and eat them that way. I would have to say for the most part I would eat whatever I was given so I'm not picky. I did learn to like sushi, that I never thought would happen.
26Bitter Melon - I used to avoid it when I was a kid. But I like this vegetable now - not only it is of low calorie, it is also help in reducing Cholesterol.
27Also a member of the brussels sprouts fan club! They're one of my top three favourite vegetables now. Just steamed in the microwave, sometimes sprinkled with a little olive oil, and sprinkled with salt and pepper, I think they're delicious.
For me, the two most obvious ones would have to be prunes and chick peas. I used to hate even the sight of prunes, but was forced (probably TMI, heh) to try them this year after having stomach issues from a general anaesthetic and now I eat them most days. It's quite likely because the rest of my diet is very low in sugar, but I guess there are worse sugar cravings to have! And a few years ago I didn't like chick peas at all; they're now my favourite food and I eat them at least six days a week in some form. I'm planning to eat them plain for lunch today, I like them that much.
28I hated cauliflower when I was a kid. I think it's an acquired taste. I like it now but I don't love it. I wouldn't eat eggs if the yolk was runny when I was a kid either, but now I love poached eggs! I still don't like them fried though. The only things I still don't eat are green bell peppers and tapioca pudding - I don't think I'll ever like these!
29Asparagus and beans are the biggies.
30asparagus! i once put chocolate on it as a child to make it bearable, now i eat it all the time!
31i'm definitely more picky now than i was as a child! i used to eat everything! but now, i won't touch tomatoes, eggs, chicken and the list goes on!! lol.
32I've always eaten pretty much everything except for lima beans. Still can't stand those! I love most veggies , but I'm not crazy about fruits except for melons. When my husband and I go to a farmer's market, he heads for the plums and I go for the cucumbers.
33Mustard.
Now, I still don't add it to my hamburgers, but I like the taste now!
34It's mostly the opposite with me. I've gotten pickier as I've gotten older. But Caesar salad is a new love, and I used to hate that, so that counts.
35mushrooms, olives, artichoke hearts, asparagus and cauliflower are all things I wouldn't eat when young but now enjoy and even crave.
36they say that eating new foods opens new neuron paths in the brain. new food = mind opening experience. I am working on opening up to sushi! but I know that's pretty tame compared to what's out there!
37Mustard and brussels sprouts. I loooooove roasted brussels sprouts now. And I still don't like yellow mustard, but I love dijon.
38i used to hate oranges for some reason. i still hate peanut butter (except in reese's but i haven't had one of those in ages).
39now that im older, i LOVE tasting new, strange foods.
there's a lot of people who hate lima beans! i love them and can eat them plain, but i know my mom, who used to hate them, eats them now all the time with parmesan cheese!
I hated EVERYTHING, now I am a veggie-holic... also, I hated all beans, but now I love LOVE all beans... the only think I am picky about it the quality of my food. Like I refuse to eat sh*tty generic food, but I will try any exotic or odd food for sure!
40I hated broccoli and mayonaise-based salads (pasta salad, coleslaw, potato salad etc) and now I am a big fan. I wish that I didn't like those salads though - not so healthy for me.
I still hate lima beans and probably always will, I can't handle the texture. And cooked cauliflower - the smell is just too much for me.
41Yup! I used to hate bell peppers and broccoli but now I love them!
42Put me on the brussel sprout bandwagon too! I had no idea until this year.. so delicious I've gone overboard, eating them twice a day hah! Shocked my mother when I called her and told her I was eating brussel sprouts.. she said to my father in the other room "Oh my goodness, your daughter is eating brussel sprouts!" And my dad asked "But is she eating peas??" (Peas have long been my childhood foe and I still have not made peace with the peas! Like an above poster, I've realized that most of my problems with vegetables is because my mother killed them.. overcooking the poor things to death! My newest veggie is one I added two months ago, BEETS!!! So delicious with olive oil and roasting in the oven.. yummyyyyy.
43Hmmm, I still haven't grown out of the belief that broccoli is only good as a melted-Velveeta delivery vehicle
44- tomatoes
- mushrooms
- brussel sprouts
- kalamata olives
- cheese
- pizza
Jabbadoo - I still don't like peas either!
45beets and applesauce. love them now. seperately, of course
46*separately
47Since I hated everything as a kid, my list is long, but the big ones would be salads (I hated every single thing that comprised a salad) and sandwiches (see the salad note).
Now, I'll eat just about anything (except red meat and eggs), but I still won't touch a mushroom, a raw tomato or a raw onion.
48I used to dislike all seafood, and sweet potatoes. And I seem to recall picking olives and mushrooms off my pizza at one point in time as well. But generally I have always been a good eater, and I had pretty much whatever my parents gave me, which was nothing too bizarre.
49broccoli
