Before this weekend, I would have thought "do you like watermelon?" was a silly question. After all, everyone likes watermelon, right?
Apparently not. At my Fourth of July party — which, like all good July 4th parties, featured watermelon — there were three people who claimed to dislike watermelon. I was shocked that such people existed. They complained that the fruit tastes watered down, whereas I think it's sweet as candy. So how about you?

I love watermelon, but i think my sister's boyfriend said he didn't like watermelon. He is a strange creature.

10I like it, but know people who don't and can see how they might not. I always salt it when it's mediocre (though good watermelon is to be left pure and unadulterated, period) and bad watermelon is watery, mealy, or both. Yuck.
11I am not a fan of Watermelon (well all melons) - it has WAY too much sugar for something that tastes like water.
12I'm not a fan of watermelon. I hate when you get that overripe piece that's all mushy and grainy. I'd rather just skip the whole experience than run into one of those pieces.
13I definitely thought everyone loved watermelon until my 4th party too. More people said they didn't like it than did. I was seriously surprised too haha. And it's funny that they said it tastes watered down...it is called WATERmelon!

19Well the flavor is kind of watered down but then again it is watermelon. It's not my favorite but I like it, especially frozen after I blend it in the blender with juice from a lime or 2 and freeze it to have when it's really hot out.

23I hate watermelon. And being born on the 4th of July it was ALWAYS around and offered to me like it's some birthday treat or something. Politely turning it down got ugly a few times.

LOVE it! It's delicious sprinkled with a little crumbled feta cheese.

34Every summer it's the same routine. I buy watermelon and eat it up like candy. I buy more, eat it up like candy. Buy it again and it sits in the refrigerator until I have to throw it away. So I DO love it, but only now and then.

41I never cared for it - I don't really like any melon flavor. I can't even stand fruit salad with melon because the melon taste rubs off onto the other fruits.
However, I learned that there is one way I like it - a small cube of watermelon with a slightly larger cub of feta - enjoyed in the same bite. I also discovered I like prosciutto-wrapped honeydew - so I guess as long as I have something savory with the melon I'm good.
42No. I'm usually pretty open to (vegetarian) food, but watermelon is one thing I've never liked. I think I inherited my aversion from my dad, who can't stand it either. Don't like the taste or the texture. Or the appearance, actually. Watermelon and mushrooms would both be up there on my list of foods that I prefer to remain a safe distance from!

44When th summer comes, there s always always watermelon in the fridge, and i eat about 3 times a day!Its great when you want something sweet, when you dont feel like eating cause its hot, and great with feta cheese!Summer doesnt feel right without watermelon!(i love melon too)

PartySister: You know. I've told you a million times. We have this conversation every summer. You offer me melon, I say I hate it, you act shocked.
Me: Oh.
Delicious! So refreshing in the summer.
48It's definitely not my favorite melon. On those fruit trays featuring cantalope, watermelon, pineapple, and honeydew, I tend to ignore the watermelon. Sometimes watermelon can be quite bland! But if you find a good one, they're amazing and they are undeniably a taste of pure summertime.
