Do You Save Your Favorite Part of a Dish for Last?

The other day DearSugar told me how she always saves her favorite part of a dish for last. For example, when she eats her daily salad at lunch she eats her favorite part — the protein last. I confessed that I do the same! I love making my last bite be the best tasting. How about you?

I like to make the "last, perfect bite". All my friends laugh at me for that! I save a little piece of everything (potatoes, veggies, meat etc.) aside so that my last forkful will be soooo satisfying! It's sort of my end of meal ritual. (It also helps me from taking seconds of whatever was my favorite!)

It depends, I try to save the best for last but if I feel like I'm getting full I'm going to finish the good stuff so I don't try eating it when I'm too full and end up not being as satisfied because now I'll feel like a pig.

Gastric surgery limits how much I can eat, so if there is protein on the plate, that is first. After that, I eat small bites of the rest, but I try to not eat too much carbs (and yes, I do love my carbs!)Smiling

I do save the best bite for last, but sometimes I get so full that I don't get to enjoy it as much.

Depends what I'm eating, but if it's something I REALLY like I seek out the best bite and save it for last. I do, I do! Makes me appreciate it that much more!

It depends! I am a person that likes to mix flavors together when eating. For example: I like rice, and i life veggies, but i usually eat them together. I try to balance it out too, so that if I am trying to make myself like a vegetable, i take a bite of it with my fav thing to make it taste better lol.

I have recently changed my ways - while i always saved the best for last, I found that I would still eat it even if I got full along the way. Now I eat the best first, and if I get full I stop eating (although if veggies weren't done well, I will eat them first and then the best second, just to ensure I get my veggies in!)

yes i do all the time everyone thinks I'm crazy, and also to add to the craziness none of my food can touch the other like if I'm eating a mexican dish my rice cannot touch the beans or the enchiladas or whatever I'm eating so weird i know i think its a psychological thing

Sometimes - it just depends on what I'm eating. But I usually eat everthing evenly on my plate. I have a friend that eats all of one thing at a time which is totally puzzling to me.

I always save the best bite for last. Funny story, When we were first married my hubby , when i had gotten up before taking that last bite or two to get more ice, ATE my last bites. When i got back to the table I was all "you ate my food!" and he says "oh i thought you pushed that aside cause you didnt like it" .......he wont ever do that again without fear of losing a limb

Yes! My husband always makes fun of the way I am so strategic when I eat. Especially the way I have to "study" a burger or sandwich before taking the next bit.

I do but it's not the best bit. It's whatever item I like best. Sometimes I even have a dessert first because I want the flavor of the actual meal in my mouth last.

If I saved the best for last, I would eat the entire plate no matter what it is!

Because of this, my 'method' is to eat them all a little bit at the time. If I am satisfied, I don't eat the rest... even if it's my favorite!

Yes, I do, but I have to be careful because sometimes I save a delicious bite and then my boyfriend (who eats about 1000000x faster than i do) will get bored and decide he isn't full and swipe my deliciousness off my plate. So now I try to eat it somewhere in the middle as an insurance policy.

Yep... I save the best for last, too. It always comes back to bite me in the butt, though--for example, when I'm out with my parents for chicken wings, I'll save the biggest, most sauce-soaked wing for last... but then my mom or dad will decide they want one of my wings, and guess which one they grab? D'oh.

I thought I was weird for trying to make that last bite the most delicious one! Apparently not... When I eat sandwiches on sliced bread, I take bites around and have the crust first, and work my way in to the center where all the components of the filling are bound to be present.

I always get the pesky foods that I don't like but that I know are good for me out of the way first.

I save the best for last! I just want to get the not-the-best stuff out of the way. My friends think it's weird, but it's nice to know that most of the YumSugar readers do the same thing!

But after reading sillygirl's comment, I'm thinking of changing now. I'm the same way, even though I'm full I still eat the rest of the food coz they're the best ones. That's not good if I'm trying to lose weight!

i eat meals in a specific order-i just can't help it
breakfast has to go fruit then coffee then cereal
lunch is veggies followed by a sandwich
and at dinner i eat all my veggies first and then alternate bites between starch and protein-unless i'm having salad, which i eat last

    i'm weird, i know

I had never given it any thought before, but I definitely save the best part for last a lot of the time. And if there's something I don't really like, but will still eat because it's good for me, I eat it first to get it over with.

I also eat my sandwiches from around the edges, crust first and then the middle. So much better. Nothing worse than the last part of a sandwich being nothing but a mouthful of bread.

I don't, I always eat the good stuff first, but my husband always cuts off the pointy part of his last piece of pizza to eat as his very last bite. I think it's pretty cute.

Since I could chew, I would eat "around" my sandwich--going through the crust and edges first so I'm left with the meat-and-cheese-filled middle. Yum!

I usually save my favorite aspect of the meal as a last bite. I'm also bad about eating all the wheat bits out of Lucky Charms and saving the marshmallows for last.

i actually alternate a bit so that i make sure i'm getting a bit of what i love throughout the meal. it's weird - but i'll do it in sections so that there are little bits of the best and worst of the dish.

I'm one of the weird one's that eats one item at a time and I do save my favortie part for last. Also I'm like PinkPrincess, I don't like my food to touch and I don't drink anything until my food is gone. I have something wrong with me mentally I'm sure. lol

I save my favorite pieces of sushi for last, salmon or tuna (depending on the quality of course!). But for everyday things, usually bits of my favorite, then next favorite, etc. I like everything to be of equal amounts, like symmetric and everything!

My friends think it's funny and "cute" that I save the best for last. But come on, saving the best for last just makes sense! Hee.

Yeah, except when someone poaches your food or waitstaff takes it away from you before you're done. It's almost enough to make me cry. Haha.
