Recently, a friend told me that she only drinks soda from the bottle, not the can, because it tastes better. I don't drink enough soda to detect a difference, but since then, I've been trying to compare the two to see if there is any variation in taste. I've never tried them side-by-side, but honestly, I think they both taste great.
How about you? Do you think soda from a can tastes different from soda in a bottle?

I like drinking it from the bottle. But not because of the taste (which I didn't know they even taste different) I just like the bottle better because when I drink soda from a can, I can't finish it and I worry about spilling. So I like the bottle better because if i can't finish it, I can just put the cap on and just hold it or stick it in my bag.
I like my soda to be slightly flat. Soda in plastic has a higher probability of being flat. Also, a can feels too cold to me.
I have friends who feel very strongly about glass bottles.
The soda might be the same when it is first packaged, but because PET is semi-permeable to CO2, pop in plastic bottles has a more limited shelf life. So the end result is that the two can (pun!) taste different.
I prefer my Pepsi in a can because it seems to stay colder and doesn't go flat as quickly as bottles.
I prefer soda in a bottle just because it's safer and cleaner that drinking in a can, even if you clean the can. Also you can close the bottle and leave the rest of the drink for latter or prevent a spilling. and I agree with AbbyHintz, because PET is permeable to CO2, it's more probable that the soda in a bottle is flatter than in a can.
I prefer it from a fountain, personally.
Where's the "soda is gross" option?
Soda is gross and I am desperately trying to give it up!! I cave in about twice a week and I prefer it in a can.
i agree...soda is gross...and quite unhealthy. if i am going to waste calories, i would much rather have a beer (in a bottle)
I prefer my coke from a fountain.
I rarely drink pop. However, on occasion when out at a restaurant (like Applebee's) I've always loved getting root beer in the bottle. I don't really know why, but something about getting that glass bottle and a frosty mug always made me smile.
Probably bottle, but I never thought about it.
Can. I don't drink sodas too often, but if I do I has to be ICE COLD in a can. Never over ice unless it's a fountain drink (which is even more rare for me).
Near my hometown they used to bottle this drink called "Ski", it's like Mt Dew, only more citrus-y. They still make it, but Coca-Cola bought it, and they no longer offer it in glass bottles. Now THAT was refreshing, it tasted SO much better out of a glass bottle!
dr.pepper from a fountain is the best...only way i drink drink it. in a bottle or can it burns my throat.
I like soda from a fountain personally.
I don't drink soft drinks, but if I did, I would pick glass bottles.
I don't drink soda but if I did it would be from a fountain first, then can.
From the bottle if it's available. Some drinks (like Sprite) pick up the aluminum taste from a can.
Depends on the occassion. I love the first sip from a icy cold can refreshing! but I love bottles because I can close it. Last I love Mexican coke (or sprite) from the glass bottles because they taste the BEST!!!!!
I don't really drink much soda, so when I do I prefer it to be from a fountain (those sodas ALWAYS taste the best). Otherwise, so long as the drink is cold I really don't care whether it's from a bottle or a can.
of the choices, Im a can fan but I do like my soda from a fountain the best with crushed ice! yum!
fountain soda is my favorite, but i most often have soda in can.
well i dont drink soda anymore but when i did it was from a bottle b/c there's more to drink then from a can
The few companies that still use glass bottles have my vote as the winner. Jones, Izze, IBC - all awesome. However, if it comes down to plastic or aluminum, I'll go with the can, I guess. Something satisfying about the sound of a can opening, I think.
I don't drink soda. But I have always loved the soda bottles you get in Europe.
I definitely opt for soda in a bottle because I have a friend who works for a trucking company and before the cans are shipped out the workers find it to be quite funny to urinate on the tops of the cans!! I'm not saying that it is always the case, but I'd rather be safe than sorry!!
I didn't choose bottle because I was assuming it meant plastic - I like glass bottles.
i like fountain drinks. out of a waxy paper cup w/ a straw and lid. i'm crazy. but i'd drink out of a can before a plastic bottle.
i just finish my 2nd coke of the day... i'm a soda junkie...
but actually in mexico Coke taste better in glass bottles... at school i drink it at plastic bottles but when it's a really hot day... like today there's nothing better than a coke in a can... almost frozen
I drink Diet Lemon Lime from Kroger haha but my favorites are Sprite Zero, Diet Sierra Mist, and the occasional Diet Coke or Diet Mountain Dew. I have to say the bottle is easier because it doesn't spill and you don't have to drink it all at once but the taste from an ice cold can... ahh! nothing can compare IMO.
whenever i have the chance i drink it from the bottle! it tastes better.
I was just telling my mom the other day how Coke tastes better in a can. My dad, sister and I always stick it in the freezer to chill, but the other day, a can exploded and my mom got mad.
When I have the choice I'll always choose can...it tastes better and it doesn't get all warm and flat and nasty. Plus I have no use for more than 12 fl oz of soda at one time and like I said before, soda in a bottle gets flat and nasty after you open it once, even if you close it up again its still nasty.
Glass, but that not an option - can! Love soda drink it whenever I can.
I go through a bottle of diet root beer in about 5 days. I take a few sips, then put the lid back on. It usually doesn't get flat till about a few days after opening. Not possible with a can =) Plus, I don't like the metal taste that cans always bring with them.
I like to drink it from a can at the temperature of my room. It hurts my teeth if my Coke is too cold and it just tastes nasty warm or hot. It's a little cold, but not tooth-hurting cold. Coke from a fountain tastes weird to me. I can handle Coke from a bottle, but I prefer it in a can overall.
i prefer to drink from the bottle, cause it seems cleaner to me. But i never noticed any difference in taste.
I'd rather have fountain soda when possible. My second preference is the glass bottle, then the can.
I love soda and I like it from cans (fizzier, if u ask me)
First choice is dispensed soda. I think it's fizzier that way... extra points if they have the button where you can add extra soda water to dilute it so it isn't so sweet. Next best thing is from a can. From the bottle always taste more syrupy to me.
Fountain drinks are the best.
i can close it and refill it with water - go bottles!
but really I like glass bottles because there're so cool
Ewww, fountain drinks are the grossest! I pick bottle because you can re-seal it and it doesn't spill. Cans are useless!
Don't like can. at all!!
It gives a very little disturbing taste to my diet coke!
I love soda from the fountain, especially coke or Root Beer. But I do love soda from glass bottles (like Fanta Orange) and soda from a can taste so much better then from the bottle. I have stopped buying soda at gas stations that are in bottles because it tastes bleh, so it helps me be good and buy a bottle of water. I am actually drinking soda from a can as I post this!
I very rarely drink soda, but when I do I prefer bottles. Not sure why.
Poured from can into giant glass. Add ice.
I need the bubbles to pop before they go into me. For some reason, I can't get bubbly stuff down. The bubbles don't pop! This is why I can't drink shakes. They won't stay down. *ahem*
Can tastes better to me - although I have been on a coke strike for a little over a year now, and they taste sick now. I can't handle a whole one on my own, after two sips I'm done!
In a glass, filled with ice. Has to be drunk from a straw as well.
Glass bottles are best.
