Starbucks has announced its plan to offer an afternoon discount to morning customers. Present a receipt of your morning beverage after 2 p.m. and you can order any iced grande coffee drink (including Frappuccinos!) for just $2. The promotion begins on Tuesday and runs until Sept. 2. According to Brad Stevens, the vice president of customer relationship management, the discount is a no-brainer:
I think we've kind of hit the nail on the head. It's easy for baristas to implement and it's easy for customers to understand.
Since Starbucks's iced drinks are a little pricey the concept is quite clever. However, I rarely order two Starbucks drinks in one day, so I don't know how often I will be able to use the discount. How about you? Will you use the discount?

Yes yes!!! Just in time for the Texas summer heat and the summer finals!! I am happy in case you can't already tell.
1This has been going around for awhile in the Seattle area,I drink the iced black tea and they usually give a venit instead of a grande on the tea because the price difference is so small
2I don't drink Starbucks regularly at all, it's so much cheaper to brew my own at home. But when I do, I get an iced Cafe Americano which is one of the cheapest drinks on the menu and I think the venti is a little over 2 bucks anyway.
3that's a great idea! I will be more likely now to opt for starbucks over dunkin in the morning now for my caffeine fix! (dukin, however, will always be best in my heart!)
4I found that out this morning. I won't have two in one day but I will make use of my little coupon.
5I found that out this morning. I won't have two in one day but I will make use of my little coupon.
6Um, no. I dont think this is such a great idea. I dont know if it will boost their sales as much as they're hoping for.
7Hm I rarely ever drink starbucks twice a day, but this may help me to if I feel like it... Nice.
8I think you hit the nail on the head when you said you rarely get 2 orders of Starbucks in one day, they are trying to get repeat customers any way possible which makes sense. But I don't see myself changing my schedule for them.
9I once had two starbucks drinks in one day and got sick
But you could give the morning receipt
to a friend and vice versa if you use cash.
10I don't drink Starbucks anymore - amazingly, there isn't one conveniently located near my work. Plus, my fiance is strongly anti-caffine so I try to avoid it too.
11I'm with soapbox. I would take turns with a friend or something, but I wouldn't go 2x a day.
12We just never get Starbucks promos in the UK!!! Why Why Why!!!!!!!! I am a complete frappucino addict so would love this!
13This is a good deal, but I hardly use Starbucks this time of year, so I won't be taking advantage of it. It would be great if they ran this again later because during the school year I often study at Starbucks for 5 hours straight and buy a couple drinks.
14I'm lucky if I get starbucks once a week forget about more than once a day.
15I might do this once, just to get the discount. But I generally only purchase drink coffee 1x a week. But that one day, I think I'll double up!
16My Starbucks started this 2 weeks ago, I love it! The baristas at mine are really cool and allow us to give them to our friends to use. I think it's a great idea!
17They've been doing this in Chicago for awhile now. I have never utilized it, but I know of a former boss who has about 3 Starbucks a day who would benefit it.
I'm confused by the need for this in some ways because the Starbucks in my neighborhood is always busy. Oh well..
18in milwaukee they gave out reusable cards for $2 grande iced drinks after 2 pm (no need to have bought a drink earlier in the day). since I work right by one, I've been there almost every day. waiting to get coffee after 2 has saved me a lot of $.
19It is a very good deal if you live or work near a Sbux but if you don't, as in my case, then you don't benefit at all.
Why not just lower the prices of the iced drinks overall, just by a few cents? A few years ago this would have been great because there was a Sbux near where I
worked. It would have been a blessing because it would have saved me some money when I was working 3 jobs. Back then, I bought one to jumpstart my morning then another later in the evening to
keep me going through the night shift.
20I am ALL over this. I have once cup of coffee in the morning and by the time 3pm hits, I need a complete caffeine fix. This rocks.
21Clever! Although in the end, we're still the ones spending more money.
22I agree with Rancher's Girl. Why not just lower the price and try and get more customers that way. I think it would get more than the repeat especially for people like Rancher Girl and I who do not live close to a Star Bucks.
I have one starbucks in my town and it is located inside a Albertson's grocery store. I am not making a special trip(s) for that. When I lived in a bigger city I might of took advantage of this situation where we had a starbucks on every corner.
23it's funny - i was as sbucks yesterday getting my coffee in the AM and it cost me $260 - and they said that i could come back in the afternoon and get practically the same drink for $2 with my receipt and i thought that it was an interesting concept - i just didn't really feel like going back. i think that it's a nice way to try to get additional repeat business in the same day. we'll see if it has an impact on their sales/revenue
24I encountered this today but it will be unlikely I'll stop in twice in one day.
25I hate Starbucks.
26As if $2 is a DISCOUNT compared to how much corporate power and money they have.
Switching over to fair trade coffee beans swayed me towards not despising them so much anymore..
but can't they at least pretend to be subtle??
Another "promotion" to slowly turn all Earthlings into Starbucks addicts...
NO thanks!!!! We have enough of those.
27btw your new cups are fugly.
I love it!
I get the Vivanno for $2.14 - giving me all the protein I need in a day. Gimmick or not - it keeps this girl going.
28I love it.But i hate that sexy girl to work on Starbucks.
