One of my self-assigned tasks this week is to reorganize my rapidly growing cookbook collection. While I didn't start out with very many, I've accrued at least a dozen recipe books over the past two years. I love cookbooks, but I question whether I should hang on to the ones I've never used. How many cookbooks do you own? Do you use recipes from all of them?

I use maybe two or three of them on *any* basis at all. But the cookbooks I have are treasured more for their pictures and ideas than they are for their actual recipes.
1two. and then a recipe box. i prefer allrecipes.com honestly. i like to go by reviews and then people make suggestions of how to spruce up the recipe, or offer alternatives if you dont have something on hand. cookbooks are too hit or miss for me.
2My mom got me hooked on reading cookbooks for inspiration, even beyond recipes. She must have 70 to 80 cookbooks, so I feel like my little collection of 50 is modest. I think about 1/4 of mine are related to holidays so once we pass Halloween I'm pouring through them like crazy. The one that get used the most is probably the BH&G "red-checkered cover" cookbook.
3I'm ashamed that I have this lovely cookbook collection and my diet consists of Lean Cuisine and fast food - blech. It's not alot of fun to cook when you're single...
4Kaciegrrl: I'm single and I have a great time cooking and experimenting with cookbooks! Invite over your girlfriends or family members to sample your cuisine.
To me cookbooks are like shoes, I have way too many to count!
5I have about a dozen give or take but I really only use 2-3 frequently. I love Giada De Laurentis' cook books! All the recipes are super easy and tasty
6two! I just bought my second one from a thrift store yesterday . . . i'm frugal, lol.
7I have about 20. I use them all, although most of the time I don't cook from a cookbook.
8It's all about The Joy of Cooking! Other than that, I rely on the internet.
9I have well over a hundred and about 50 books on wine. Yes, I am obsessed! But, believe it not, I use them all. Some I cook from and others are for reference.
Cheers,
10Angela
I'm sure I have over a hundred, yipes! To clarify, I collect vintage cookbooks. The "regular" cookbooks I use only number about four.
11I said half a dozen, but I think it's somewhere around 8. I just got a really cool one from my grandma the other day. It is from 1928 or so. Really cool!
I use the internet a lot. I am thinking of getting a binder where I print and save my 'most used.'
12Maybe 30 or something. I love books. I love to have them and look at them, but I don't often use recipes from them. I mostly use them for inspiration.
13Probabaly about a half dozen... I really need to get some more! Tops on my wish list: Baking: From My Home to Yours by Dorie Greenspan.
14I looooove cookbooks of all kinds but I have a particular fondness for baking ones
15I have about 15. My favorites are The Joy of Cooking and Giada's.
16I LOVE cookbooks! My favorites are the ones with pictures of all or a lot of the recipes. The one I have used the most is Cocktail Food, I do have some though that I have yet to cook from, but i'll get around to it, I always do.
17i have about half a dozen cookbooks, but i tend to use a few specific ones as my 'go to' books. my fiance loves to find new recipes to make for dinner - so i'll let him have that responsibility.
18I truly have hundreds. I read them for entertainment as well as on a practical basis. I especially can't resist the ones where each recipe comes with a little story about its writer or its origin!
19I have about 12 give or take. I have given some to my friends when I do not use them anymore.
20I actually own about 3-4.
21I have a lot of family recipes in my head, this makes me want to go buy some cookbooks and try different meals
22none
23I only have a few. When I want to make something I look it up online!
24So far, I win! LOL
Until last year, I had over 250. When my husband gave me a book
cabinet for a wedding present, the books had to be organized and sorted out. My honey had groaned and grumbled with each box of books we carried into the house! LOL;) Living in a rural
community and being new to the area, I decided to put the "free to good homes" books on a table at the next women's club meeting. A great icebreaker and way to meet new friends!
I still have at least 75 cookbooks. I've been collecting cookbooks since I was 5 when my
grandmother gave me a children's cookbook. Reginal cookbooks are the souvenir I like to buy when on vacation, as well as old church group cookbooks.
25I have about 6 or so. Shopping for cookbooks is a lot of fun, plus it makes me feel motivated to cook. I've also bee relying on eatingwell.com quite a bit! Great site for healthy eating.
26I have almost 300. And yes I have made a recipe from everyone of them.
27I don't have any cookbooks! I'd love to have one of Jamie's tho.
28Oh my... it is nice to see I am not the only one who has dozens of cookbooks on hand.
I have a copy of Better Homes and Garden from every decade it has been printed. My favorite edition is the one from 1953. When baking became about presentation & they included lots of color pictures. Tons of really great, easy to make things in that book. I also have the collection of Children's version of the BH&G books too.
Then I have my theme books. Whitman Cake decorating books is one I use alot for parties. I am known for making vintage decorated cakes for the holidays.
