When I complained to my mother the other day about what an impatient cook I am, she told me that my aunt passes cooking time by watching TV in the kitchen. I'm not a big television watcher, but the conversation left me wondering how many of you have a TV in your kitchen. Do you watch television while cooking or eating in the kitchen?

wow that guy in the picture looks really creepy
1I don't have one & don't want one, but I don't think it's "inappropriate" to have a TV in the kitchen.
2what's up with that picture? it's been used on sugar sites like a hundred times so far... well, maybe only three times that I can recall.
it's creepy and just gross!
3I grew up having a TV in the kitchen and I loved it. Now, I only have one TV, and it's in the living room!
4i don't but the kitchen in my apt is so tiny that i don't know where i would put one. luckily at my mom's house there's a pass through so i can watch TV while i'm cooking. it's just nice ot have something to pay attention to while things are simmering or doing their thing in the oven/on the stove etc.
5I don't (and don't want one), but I don't think it's "innappropriate" and can't imagine why anyone would. we only have one TV and it's in the den.
6My kitchen and my living room are one big room, so yeah, I watch TV when I'm in the kitchen.
7Do and watch cooking shows while cooking, always. In fact I have 5 TVs.
8certainly no. i don't want one. i can respect others for having one i guess, but i don't see the appeal.
9My apartment is small so I can see the tv from my kitchen. I know its crazy but I actually like to watch cooking shows while I cook!
10At my parents house they have a tv in the kitchen, it's almost always on the food network because my younger siblings hijack the living room tv.
In my apartment now I have a tv in my "kitchen" but through no fault of my own. My apartment has 3 rooms: a bedroom, bathroom and a massive space which holds my kitchen, living room, dining room. So yes I can watch tv while cooking and eating.
11I don't own a tv.
12The guy in the picture is definitely creepy. I think it's a combination of his look and his bare feet up on the kitchen table - ewwwww.
13Anyhow, my mom had an under the cabinet tv in the kitchen so she could watch what she wanted while upstairs. I think it made it more enjoyable while she was cooking, baking and/or cleaning. It would be nice if I had one, but I'd definitely consider it a luxury.
I have a living room attached to our kitchen and eating area and we have a HUGE TV mounted on the wall. So usually I turn it on when I cook for background music or for watching Sex and the City
It's always on right when I get home so I cook and watch
14My mom has one, but my kitchen is waaaay too small for it! I have hardly any countertop space as it is.
15no way. my momma would die. the kitchen is for fellowship with your family. no distraction like a tv would ever be allowed. we sit down to dinner to talk and no watch tv. hehe. personally it's to each his own but i like to keep it the way i've been raised. it's worked out well for me.
16I use a laptop. I check menus and watch cooking shows as I cook.
17We have a pass-through cut out of the kitchen that allows us to see into the living room, so I can see the TV in the living room. Since I work so damn much, I generally have 2-3 hours max time between when I walk in the door and when I go to bed, so I have to combine cooking with my relaxing time, so sometimes I just want peace and quiet, or sometimes I want to be entertained and opt for TV. Either way, there's not technically a TV IN the kitchen, but I can see one.
18I love watching tv while im cooking and baking
Makes everything a lot more
enjoyable!
but I don't watch tv while eating that often, just because the old myth that you eat more when youre distracted
but there is those times where I just cant miss a show or where I just feel like watching tv while I eat.
19oh, but cmill38 made me realise that when I did live at home, we never had a tv in our living room because, like she said, we were so busy with school and work and our own activities that supper would pretty much be the only time where we could spend time as a family and talk about our day and whatnot
They were good times. Except when someone was in a bad mood, or when me and my sister would start arguing at the table haha, my parents hated that.
20*in our kitchen
21No, but I'd like one.
22I think it's more his moustache and girly haircut...and yes, I've always had a TV in the kitchen...I don't know why thought.
23though*
24ew his feet are on the table! that's even worse than a tv in my mother's house haha!
25No but I do have a creepy man/woman hybrid person in there, as illustrated.
26I love watching Food TV while I'm cooking and baking. Makes it more interesting when you're standing there stirring or kneading dough. And it's fun listening to food commentary while you're making some yourself. We've never really eaten at the table, even while I was growing up, except on Sundays when we have the extended family dinner each week. Otherwise, we've always sat around in the living room, watching TV and talking while we eat, which I like just as much as sitting at the table. It's more relaxing. And if I'm eating by myself, I always, always eat in front of the TV. Again, more relaxing and less boring. I don't think it necessarily means you eat more either. I still pay attention to what I'm doing and I try to be careful about portion sizes and not going back for seconds.
27i think the television should be limited to one room only. people watch way too much tv these days as is, especially kids.
28i agree peachkellipop
29sure do! thats where i catch up on shows on my tivo while i cook or eat alone
30I think a TV in my kitchen would be cool (although I don't currently have one there) - it would be neat to watch, say, Food Network and cook along.
However, I don't think it would be cool having that guy in my kitchen. He's got to go! Buh-bye!
31i don't have one *in* the kitchen, but i can see the one in the living room from the kitchen.
32I didn't pick any of the answers, as mine would have been "other".
We have only one TV, which isn't in the kitchen. While we don't usually use it while cooking (though might while letting something sit or bake for a while, with the timer handy), there are occasions where we eat in front of the TV for an at-home date night.
I don't want a TV in my kitchen, but I don't have any problems with others doing so. I would, however, like a comfy armchair to drape over while reading a book or keeping my hubby company while he cooks.
33i don't have one, but it wouldn't bother me if there was one. my kitchen is right next to my husband's office so we usually chat while i cook. fun in a different way, i guess.
34I turn the living room tv onto Friends when I get home from work & begin cooking. I just listen to it, and stick my head around the corner every once in a while and take a peek if I'm waiting on something to cook. I don't have a desire for one in the kitchen. Perhaps, if I get a house one day, I MIGHT want one for watching the foodnetwork or something.
35Nah, one in the bedroom is enough for me. I wouldn't want one in the kitchen either... I was reading an article the other day and it stated that if you're watching TV while eating, you eat an extra 200/300 calories. Understandable but not very good for my already big tummy!
36I think that it is too distracting. I just eat and watch television or something on my computer. In the kitchen I'm distracted enough.
37I don't own a tv, but I usually watch something on my computer when I cook and eat.
38No, I don't need to be tied to the TV all the time! Makes me feel like a zombie. I didn't have a tv at all in my first year of uni.
39No, but i would like one.
40I drag put laptop the center of the island and put in a movie.
41We have a TV in the living room, so I hear it while I cook. During the summer, my husband likes to watch the news while he eats supper because it's the only time he can. He works very long days, so when he comes home, he likes to eat dinner and catch up on the events of the day. I generally leave the TV off the rest of the day.
42Wow, sorry that comment did not quite make sense! But I do drag my laptop into the kitchen and put in a good movie (most recently - Under the Tuscan Sun - I love that movie!).
43I find this picture kind of funny, in a creepy "I'm watching you" sort of way. But anyway, I don't like the idea of having a TV in the kitchen, because knowing me, I would sit all day and eat everything.
44the guy in the picture is like a brunete Sam Ronson ha....
45Definitely looks a girl with a mustache. Very odd.
46There are two TVs in my kitchen. One has egg on it from a little powered-whisk accident. Couldn't get it all off. The other is its replacement. But the egg one still works after some tinkering, so...
Now I can put one eye on the Olympics and the other on a cooking show or something.
47The No options are a little narrow. I don't want one in the kitchen, but I don't see a problem with other people having them in their kitchen.
48I watch Food Network while I cook. ^_^ Generally, I watch TV while I eat, too.
