i don't know if i do or don't to be honest. i've never had one -and i'm a little 'afraid' of them. that's sad if you think about it - but when you've never had something - there's always that
element of fear since you don't know what the flavor will be. i haven't even ever had a fig newton or anything to say that i have an idea....maybe it'll be something new for me to try and to
just get over my scardy-cat thing.
I will eat them only in Newton or jam form, while my husband will eat them any way possible. It is a texture thing for me. Flavor is great but texture oogs me out.
I've never had one fresh, though my fiance raves about them. I've had them in fig newtons and breakfast bars (Trader Joe's This Fig Walks Into a Bar - so yummy!) and I've had them dried. I
like all those forms, so I imagine I'd like figs any way you can dish them up, but I can't say for certain.
I am kind of obsessed with figs. When they are in season I eat them at every opportunity, and I find dried figs to be one of my favorite desserts. Honestly they are like candy do me.
Question: how does one just eat a fig? My aunt has a fig tree at her beach house, and she gave me one and i didn't know what to do with it so i tossed it.
Comment: I have had fig newton's and stuff before, but that's it. My bio teacher told us that the little thingies in the fig are little bugs, but that won't deter me from eating, i just don't
know how to eat one fresh lol
One interesting (and now debunked) story of the death of Pythagoras was that he was running away from some enemies of his philosophy. As he crossed through a wheat field, the men chasing him
set fire to the field to flush him out. On the other side of the field was a fig grove, but owing to the somewhat lewd shape of the figs (think like a ten year-old or a fraternity brother),
he refused to mingle with them and perished in the fire.
No less odd (but certainly less topical) is the more accepted version - on the other side of the field was a field of beanstalks. Pythagoras, in addition to being a brilliant mathematician,
was a cult leader and had issued a directive to abstain from the eating of beans. He refused even to step on the beans, and thus perished.
Just pop a fig in your mouth (or slice it if it's enormous), and eat it- there's nothing else to it!
I'm a bit of a fig fanatic. When I buy them, once I have bagged them, I won't let them be put with the other groceries, for fear of crushing them. I usually end up carrying them in my hand
all the way home.
love! i love figs prepared anyway! So much so that I've eaten the Turkey, Brie, and Fig spread sandwhich from Whole Foods for dinner for the past 4 days. haha! I think it's time to eat
something new.

1ilanac13, I've never had one either and feel the same way!
2I have a huge, beautiful fig tree in my backyard. I had never eaten a fig (besides the -newton type!) until I moved here, but I like them now.
3Fresh figs, especially picked right off the tree, but even from the supermarket are quite possibly my favorite food.
4I have never tried one!

6I've never tried one. I'm unsure of where to start. Well, I've had fig newtons, but that doesn't count in my book.
7I too have a fig tree in my yard and I love them...they are really very sweet and tasty. My daughter loves them too!
8I've only had fig newtons and I hate those, so I never tried a fresh fig.

10I love fresh figs! So good by themselves or in a salad with arugula and blue cheese.
11I just ate a couple yesterday!

18I think they are gross! My dad buys them all the time and I dont know how people can eat those things!
19only in newtons
20I can't stand dried ones unless they're in Newton form, but I'm curious what they taste like fresh.
21no! i can't stand them!
