Do You Prefer an Early or Late Dinner?

The other day I was coming home from the pool with my dad around 5 p.m. We drove by a crowded Italian restaurant and I couldn't help but wonder, what type of person eats dinner at 5 in the afternoon? Of course, if these diners knew my father and I wouldn't sit down to dinner until 9:30, they would be wondering the same thing about me! So I want to know, which do you prefer? An early or late dinner?

I eat dinner late. What can I say? I think it has something to do with a party lifestyle? Or perhaps my obsession with Spain?

Usually it's not til 7 since I don't leave work til at least 6. I don't like eating after 9, but sometimes with work and all it can't be helped. This weekend my fiance and I had dinner at about 10pm at a fancy restaurant for our anniversary- I felt really elegant!!

I don't leave work until 7:30pm, so dinner often happens about 9pm. However, I am definitely thinking about it much before then!

In college and growing up, we were always eating around 5/5:30. Now with my job, I don't get home until 6:30 so dinner usually falls between that time and 7.

I don't typically get home until about 7:45pm, so I tend to eat later. I think my ideal time would be 7pm, but I don't have much of a choice since I work until 6:30pm.

I tend to do both--I'll nosh on something when I get home from work, but then the real dinner is later on, around 9 or 10.

I'm usually hungry when I get home at 5 but my husband doesn't get home until around 6:30 and prefers to eat between 7-8.

To accomodate him AND be healthy, I buy bags of frozen vegetables and heat up a bowl when I get home. Its fast and easy and I'm less inclined to eat a lot of food at dinner, saving calories but getting my veggie servings in.

It depends. My husband comes back from work at 4:30pm and we normally eat between 6:30 and 8:00pm. When we lived in Canada it was later than that. People eat so early here in Norway. Restaurants are full at 5:00pm. I guess our lifestyle will change once we have a kid though.

for me it depends on the night.
sometimes i'm tutoring in the evenings until 8 or 9 pm, then it's a late dinner night.
if we have nothing going on? usual dinner time is 7ish

I'm usually headed to bed by 10 on weeknights, too. So eating early doesn't bother me. I get off work at 5 and usually eat at around 6-7pm.

I'm with partysugar - after living in Spain a few years ago, I've become a late-dinner person. I always have a light dinner though, as my main meal is lunch.

I am up at 3:00 AM, and I'm asleep by 6 PM or 7, so I eat supper at about 3:30 or 4 PM. Quite a switch from my city days when I ate dinner at 10:30 PM or so, because of my work schedule.

My husband usually works until 9-10 so we eat later. We eat late even when he's not working. It's going to be at least 8 but usually closer to 10.

I refuse to eat dinner before 8:30pm but luckily my friends have accommodated to this! At home on weeknights that's normal because we either go to the gym or play tennis at 6/6:30p and then recover and shower and then cook (haha well my fiance cooks, I never do). On weekends I will not go out before 8pm, plus it's a good way to miss the "crowds". I HATED my dorm cafeteria, you had to eat by 6pm to get the "better" food so I either had to save mine or buy some elsewhere.

Between 6-7pm almost like clockwork unless we're going out - I work for my hubby so time is never an issue about anything in our life. We just like to eat at that time then have dessert later - usually homemade ice cream.

I eat when I get hungry--sometimes that's 5:00 and sometimes it's 10:30. I live/eat alone--it's one of the advantages of a long distance relationship. If it's a weekend with my boyfriend, we usually make reservations around 7 or 8.

We're usually starving by the time we get home around 5:30 so we try and have dinner no later than 6:30. That gives us time to go for a walk around the neighborhood with the baby before we get him ready for bed too. But when I was growing up at home with my parents we never ate before 7. My parents liked to unwind, have a drink and watch some news when the got homebefore they started to make dinner.

We like to eat between 5 and 6. I like to eat and have the kitchen and everything done.

During the summer it is 9 or 10 before we eat but that's because we are busy outdoors usually.

We are late dinner people, probably because both of us are naturally night people. We normally eat between 9:00 - 10:30 pm, although on the weekends it's been as late as 1:00 am.

Depends on the season. When on vacation time, never before 9. Any warm nights around 8. Cold winter nights probably at 6-7.

I don't like to eat dinner too much after 8. You tend to gain weight if you eat closer to your bedtime so I like to leave room for exercise and time for digestion.

I actually think of it as 5 in the evening. Smiling Especially in winter when it's already dark. Having said that, I try to time my dinner to eat about half past six. Any later than that and I'm absolutely starving. And it's better for your digestion to stop eating at least two hours before bed and if I go to bed too late, I'm cranky all the next day. So early dinner it is! (Although, honestly, I don't think half past six to half past seven is all that early. By half past nine, I'm thinking about bed!)

When I lived alone I'd eat really late, but now with my daughter and hungry husband we eat around 5-6pm. But if I'm not hungry I'll take a bite maybe or just eat a few hours later. I don't like eating after 8pm though.

*I just ate an entire package of lox straight out of the package because I'm too tired to deal with dishes and cutlery.

    It's about 8 here.

it really depends on the night to be honest. i typically don't like to eat late becuase i hate the thought of food just laying in my stomach over night while i'm asleep - so if i can - i'll try to eat earlier - however there are times that i don't get home from work until after 8pm and that means that if i want to eat at all - then it's a bit later.

I leave work at 6 and then by the time I'm done working out, it's like 7:30, 8-ish. So I eat late every day.

I usually like to eat late but because I have to go to bed early and wake up early I'm forced to eat lunch at a reasonable time. On the weekends though I like eating dinner late just because i start my day late in general, breakfast at noon, lunch at 4 and dinner at 8 then out for the night.

When I used to wake up for work at 5:20 am, I'd be hungry for lunch at 11 and dinner at 5. I think it depends on your schedule.
