I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger on Labor Day. OK, so that doesn't have a great ring to it, but the last barbecuing holiday of the year has me craving burgers. The recently released Hamburger America got me thinking about where to get the best hamburger in the country, so I thought I'd throw the question out to you.
Steering clear of fast-food and homemade burgers, tell me: What was the best hamburger you ever had? What made it so special and delicious? It doesn't have to be expensive, but maybe it had some unique twist, or maybe it's a place you go all the time. I personally love Rosamunde Sausage Grill, where the burgers are so good they only serve 'em once a week. Tell me all about your favorite below.

My dearest friend's birthday is on July 4th, so of course we always barbecued!
During
our high school days, we created a recipe using onion soup mix, diced sun-dried tomatoes, and a little bit of liquid smoke. Sometimes we mixed in pickle relish too. Add whatever garnish
(lettuce, pickles, corn relish, etc.) and condiments you like, and these burgers were delicious. Oh, and definitely cheese!
1Port of Call in New Orleans. Burgers and giant loaded baked potatoes...yum!
2Sunshine Coast oyster burgers
{Homer}...ooooyster buuuurgeeeer... *drools* {/Homer}
3Best burger I ever had was the Prime Cheeseburger made with American Kobe-style beef at Wolfgang Puck at the Las Vegas Springs Preserve.
4Vegan sliders at Vegetate in DC. SOO good! Veggie burger with pickled red onions, greens & citrus aioli and hand cut fries tossed with chipotle oil & chives.
5Bartley´s in Harvard Square... so good, and with lots of fries
6Burger House here in DALLAS, TX.
I dont like thick burgers with all the toppings. Im simple. Bun, THIN piece of meat, lettuce and mayo only. Burger House makes the kind of burger I like perfectly.
7My favorite "burger" is the spicy black bean
veggie-burger
jasmav that veggie burger you described sounds sooo good!!
8I wish I was in DC today!!
when i did eat meat i could say that Jackson Hole here in NYC had amazing burgers. they were very big and juicy and always cooked well. i think that the other piece of it is that if you didn't get a classic burger, you could get something that was great on top of it - mushrooms, onions or whatever and it was always perfect.
9The cheeseburger at Pie 'n Burger in Pasadena, BUT the hygiene there is so horrible I cant even go in there anymore.
10My favorite burger (besides the fabulous ones I make at home) is from a local place in my hometown called Charlie's Pizza. It's a hamburger with lettuce, tomato, pickles and mayo wrapped up in a pizza crust. It's so amazing that it's called the ultimate.
11I've had a summer love affair with sliders, of any sort really
12IN N OUT!!!!! whoo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
13Whataburger is pretty darn good for a cheap burger and so is Sonic. As for restaurants...probably Longhorn Steakhouse...their black & bleu burger and their mushroom swiss are very good!
14Lions Tap in Eden Prarie, MN. People drive hours for their burgers. Second place would have to go to Matt's Bar, in Minneapolis, for their "Juicy Lucy"...a burger stuffed with molten cheese. NUM!!!
15Red Robin has amazing burgers. Mmmmmmmmm
16Clau91 has the right idea - Mr. & Mrs. Bartley's Burger Cottage in Harvard Square makes the most obscene burgers ever. They're thick, juicy, loaded with goodies, and with silly names. How can you not love it.
That, unfortunately, was by my *old* home. Where I'm at now, we've got Crazy Jim's Blimpie Burger (search youtube for it, a clip of Diners Drivethru's and Dives with Guy Fieri will come up: resolution's horrible, but you get the general idea). Best burgers in Ann Arbor, and the best thing after a horrible exam gone wildly wrong.
17The bleu cheese burger at Lucky Buck's down here in San Diego. The burgers are absolutely delicious, and they don't mind serving them to me super, super rare the way I ask
18I am told that Five Guys burgers is the closest thing we have here to In-N-Out Burger. Five Guys is pretty darn good.
19Oh I miss living near a Five Guys, but I love Red Robin SO much! That place is the spot to satisfy a burger craving.
20A HUGE Bison burger at Helen's (home of the hateful hamburger!), I miss those rare occations when we would get Helen's. Oh so good!
21best burger i have ever had: the spotted pig in greenwich village. so simple, just bun, meat, and cheese. so amazing.
22I'm with moonlisa. Port of Call New Orleans. Can't wait to get back and have one!
23I definitely agree, Port of Call in new orleans have the best. also, before Katrina there was Michael's Mid-City Grill--the big bucks burger was so fun ($100 dollars)
24Probably this blue cheese burger my husband gets from this emo cafe. I'm not big on burgers (unless I eat them w/out the bread), but that one is yum.
My husband LUVS that heart attack burger with the fried egg and bacon on it from Red Robin too, lmao - ICK. (We don't eat a lot of the same things. I nibble off his plate, but man I can't stomach half the crap he eats.)
25the office burger @ father's office in santa monica, ca
26Snuffer's (Dallas, TX, baybee!). SALTY. Mustard, finely-diced lettuce, melllllted cheese, pickles. Deeeeelish. Oh, and made medium. Juuuice-aaaayyy!
27Such a hard question, but LOVE Father's Office SO MUCH! Seriously, I'm obsessed with that place.
For veggie burgers I love the Big Mac Daddy at Tiny's Giant in NYC. Mmmm, I'm going to keeping thinking about this one...
28In Edinburgh I had a burger with bacon (Canadian/British style) and a thick slice of haggis on top. YUM!
29Barney's Beanery in West Hollywood. They have hundreds of possible combinations... parmesan, spinach, sour cream, and the usual array of chili, cheeses, etc. Quite an institution for almost a century.
They have opened a couple other locations as well, but West Hollywood is the original, and was a stop on the old route 66.
30How could I forget...Hodaddy's in Ocean Beach, San Diego, CA area!
HODADDY'S HODADDY'S
HODADDY'S!
31This is so difficult since I'm such a burger connoisseur. It's one of my absolute favorite foods.... I'd say the top 5 would have to be -
StripBurger in Las Vegas. They make a bleu cheese burger with friend onion straws on it that is amazingly good.
Burke's in Baltimore - The place is a complete dive, but serve up some of the greatest, cheesiest burgers ever.
The Burger Joint in NYC - A secret spot at the Le Parker Meridien. Insanely good.
White Castle in NJ - Being an original Jersey-girl, I had to represent!
Sign of the Whale in D.C. - Great selection of burgers with tons of ingredients. Delicious.
After this post, it looks like I'm taking an early lunch and going out for a burger!

33Best burger ever is at Toro Bravo in Portland, OR. Yes, they're known for their spanish tapas, but their burger is incredible!!
34i love a great big burger off a grill on a summer night!
35my dad and fiancee make some awesome burgers...
but the best burger i have ever had outside of my family's kitchen would have to be burger heaven in NYC on madison avenue! nothing better in NYC then a burger heaven burger for breakfast!
also capital grill makes a killer kobe beef burger... but i tend not to want a burger in such a fancy place!!
For me, any older style greasy spoon (if you can find them) or bowling alley. They have always made the best, in my opinion, since I was a young girl. I grew up in bowling alleys and their burgers are always just slightly crunchy on the outside, greasy and seasoned just right. I figure if I'm going to eat a burger, I'm not concerned with it being good for me.
And for a fast food burger, which I know wasn't supposed to be included, but Whataburger is the best. Only had it once and it was in South Padre Island, Texas. Fantastic
36Oh my God, Rancher's Girl, you're so right! Hodaddy's ROCKS!
37my personal fave: in NYC--> db burger-->sirloin burger with short ribs, foie gras and black truffle served on a parmesean bun and seriously yummmm fries....
daniel bouloud's db bistro in nyc
http://www.danielnyc.com/dbbistro/
otherwise...any backyard bbq w/ family and friends always makes for a good burger!
38Around here (Gville FL) I like Backyard Burger, Fatburger in Tampa, and on the road Whataburger with Extra jalapenos.
39I've had no luck with Southern California Fatburgers. DRYburger, more like.
40There's a pizza place near by called Village Host that puts burgers on french rolls which I love. Alpine Inn and Dutch Goose has those too so those come a close second.
41Burger Lounge (La Jolla, CA) has the best burgers in the world. They make them with organic grass-fed beef grilled to a medium rare temperaturett. Absolutely the best burger....They have fabulous salads too.
42yep, i'd say Rosamundes is about the best you can get.
43My Dad makes a good home made one with onion, cheese, and mushrooms inside the hamburger patty. Simply Burgers in Bedford TX is good. I love their guacamole cheeseburger with sweet potato fries.
44ShopGIrl123--right on!!! In'n'Out is HANDS DOWN the best burger!! It's so fresh, savory, delicious. . . Better than any other, more expensive burger joint. Mmmm, especially 'animal style' or just grilled onions!!! Now I'm hungry
45Twenty Five Degrees on Hollywood Blvd.(inside the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel)- the BEST burger ever!!!
46Zaitzeff, down in the Financial District of NYC, make an incredible veggie burger. The bun they use is superb--and the avocado atop the delicious burger is the icing on the cake!
47oh my gosh! here in DC there is a new burger place called Ray's Hell Burgers, and it's DIVINE. You can add super fancy types of cheeses and the sauces are delicious. Oh man. Plus, Michael Landrum, the owner, doesn't do fries, so you're not gorgeing yourself, you get corn on the cob and watermellon. YUM! I found some flickr pics to share: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=rays+hell+burgers
Aside from Ray's, there's always the fan favorite, Five Guys. Though, Spike, you know - from top chef? - opened Good Stuff Eatery, on capitol hill. I have yet to try it, but it sounds delectable!
48Ben's Neighborhood Grill in Savannah, Georgia - I love the grilled onions on it. I get it all the way with cheese and a large Coke, which they keep refilling! THE BEST
49Red Robins is my favorite place to go for a burger. They are huge.We are registered on their site to get a free burger on every birthday.
