At the Slow Food Nation market this weekend, there were about a dozen vendors who sold "fast" slow food — that is, sustainably produced food that was already prepared and ready to eat. The stands served everything from tamales to rotisserie chicken with potatoes, and people were eating all around me.
I'm curious to know: When you go to the farmers market, do you buy food that's ready to eat in addition to stocking up on your usual produce items?

Went to an amazing farmer's market in Salt Lake City over the 4th of July weekend and it was our breakfast/lunch for the day and there were so many delicious foods and fresh drinks and desserts!
The market closest to me is a small branch of the huge St. Paul Farmer's Market. Aside of nibbling on popcorn, jerky, and dessert-y items, it's mainly produce, meats and flowers. They could use more prepared foods venders!
i usually don't go there to eat - just to buy. i think that for myself - i'm there for the goods and i'm more successful that way.
i usually don't buy the prepared foods but I do sample them. I have some guilt about this but they are always holding up samples and yelling at me! How can I deny them?
I buy a homemade muffin at the farmers' market every time I go. Other than baked goods, they don't offer anything already cooked.
I usually don't, but at Slow Food Nation I got a muffaletta and it was fantastic!
They don't have much in the way of prepared foods at our farmers market, but they do have a couple local bakeries that sell pastries and such. I've gotten some samples of fantastic foccia bread there, but I haven't had a chance to go back and buy some yet.
Yep, our farmer's market has this Turkish kebab stand that serves amazing food.
The bakery stand at my local market was sadly shut down because they didn't have proper kitchen facilities on location. Rules are rules, even the arbitrary ones I guess, but I really miss grabbing bread & jam there.
We go eat there once a week. The food is great and not that expensive compared to everything else here.
Heck yeah. I like to pick up breakfast at the farmer's market. There are a lot of interesting prepared foods to choose from.
I went to one last weekend and had KEY LIME CUPCAKES!!!! They were amazing and when we tried to drive to the actual bakery, it was closed. They were amazing, so I will have them again
My hubby and I switch off helping one stand at our farmers' market and in exchange we get a meal that the stand buys us. It is kind of cool because we are trying food we normally wouldn't buy.
I just went to the ferry building farmers market with the sole purpose of having bfast from the Hayes st grill set up. So freaking yummy and how can u beat eating outside next to the water.
