I already told you about the guy who invented the first coca-cola bottle, but what about the guy who actually invented the beloved drink itself? 122 years ago a Dr. John Pemberton of Atlanta, best known for his expertise in the laboratory, perfected the original formula for a drink he entitled Pemberton's French Wine Cola. Composed of an extract from the leaf of Peruvian Coca, the purest wine, and the Kola nut, this tonic was used to assist digestion and impart energy to the respiration system. However with the introduction of prohibition in 1886, Pemberton had to make a non-alcoholic version of the popular drink so he substituted sugar syrup for the wine, changed the name to Coca-Cola, and advertised it as the ideal temperance drink. Quicker than Emeril could say BAM!, America's most popular drink was born. So tell me, do you drink Coke?

I love Coke, especially Vanilla Coke.
i used to love coke. for a lot of my life it was the only soda (and nearly the only drink at all) for me. but recently i started going the diet soda route, and actually don't drink any soda at all these days.
funny . . . i don't really miss coke at all.
I can live without it..
I love Vanilla Coke too! It's hard to find these days, though. Can't start my day without a Coke.

I'm more a Pepsi girl!
I love the taste of cola, but I've never been a soda fan. I wish there were more cola flavored candies in the States.
i love coke, but i wont drink reg. coke any more sence my metabolism isnt the same as it was when i was 17..but i love love love coke zero both reg. and cherry! tastes just like coke but without the caleries!!
cybele - me too! I don't drink soda very often, but "cola" flavored candies are usually pretty great.
Hey baltimoregal - be careful about drinking on every morning. There's a few studies out that show drinking a carbonated beverage early every day is highly correlated with high blood pressure. Unless you need to raise your b.p. I guess - then it's a good thing! (I'm not trying to be preachy, I'm pre-med and I just worry about people and their health).
I don't drink alcohol so I drink pepsi or coke zero when I go out as my 'treat drink' instead. I much prefer pepsi to coke though.
i like some occassionally, but i can live without it
well i love pepsi but every once in a while have a sunkist or squirt. coke here in the US has a bad taste for me so i would rather drink coke in mexico! when i would go to visit family there, we would have a 500ml soda each with every meal. now i am trying to limit myself to 8 oz or less a day. maybe the glass and or plastic has something to do with the flavor? or do different countries change the recipe to fit their standards?
I have been boycotting Coke and Coke products for some years now...due to the killings in Colombia among other things...BUT i agree with rubiesymusica coke in mexico does taste better
