The other night we (the bf and I) went out to dinner with my friend Adam and his pals. We headed over to A16 where we ate a thousand things, including a pizza as our appetizer. I'd go into detail about everything (it was delicious), but the thing that totally grabbed my attention was dessert. It was a chocolate tart drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with salt (unfortunately we devoured it before I could remember to snap a photo). I loved it because of the way the salt paired with the sweetness of the chocolate, and yet the whole thing was smooth and creamy (the extra olive oil definitely helped with that). The bf on the other hand, thought it was too much - he didn't want his sweets to be salty. We'll disagree on that one, but I'm personally glad to see this sweet and salty dessert is a growing trend.
So how about you, do you like salty sweets?

My mom gave me a box of these caramels with grey salt on them. They were delicious, but certainly not for everyone. My fiance was horrifying by the salt encroaching on his sweet.
1i dont mind them, but i think i prefer my sweets to be sweet
2I think the best sweet/salty combo is a chocolate-covered pretzels with the salt on the pretzels blending with the sweet chocolate
Yum!
3and kettle corn, of course!

6oh ok wait, the only exception is chocolate covered pretzels. those are soooo yummy.
7OMG that comment just pushed me into SILVER!! woohoo!
8Nothing beats the glory of chocolate covered pretzels. I always get the hard ones, but have always thought it would be great to have one huge chocolate covered soft pretzel. Ok, now I'm drooling...
9Some things - but very little. I don't eat sweets a lot.

15You drove me to this---I have a giant pretzel from the mall, and the chocolate sauce that freezes on ice cream from the grocery. This is all y'alls fault!! ROTFL
16Salt onyl makes it sweeter and more complex (that's why salt is a part of every sweet recipe)...bring on the salt covered caramels!
I also love Amanda Hesser's "recipe" for chocolate toasts with olive oil and salt. It's amazing.
