Not Your Regular Nachos: Sweet and Savory Nachos

When PartySugar posts her nachos for the week every Thursday, I ogle her pictures with envy. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and I begged her to let me make a version of my own. I decided to try making nachos that are both savory and sweet, an element that I enjoyed in a grilled cheese sandwich a few weeks ago. There aren't many ingredients in this recipe, but each adds something to the flavor profile of the nachos: The brie melts perfectly; the gorgonzola provides sharpness; the apples are crispy and refreshing and cut through the heaviness of the cheese; the potato chips are wonderfully spiced and incredibly crunchy; the honey adds a lingering sweetness that can't help but make me smile.

I loved making these nachos and can't wait to do it again. The best part is how easy it was. For the recipe, read more.

8 ounces thick-cut salt and pepper flavored potato chips
4 ounces triple creme brie
2 ounces Gorgonzola dolce
1 small Granny Smith apple
Honey, for drizzling

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cover a baking pan in foil.
  3. Spread chips evenly across baking pan in a single layer.
  4. Core the apple and chop it into tiny square pieces. Sprinkle evenly across chips.
  5. Cut the brie into small pieces and sprinkle evenly across the chips.
  6. Crumble the Gorgonzola dolce and sprinkle evenly across chips.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes, until cheese is completely melted. Remove from oven and drizzle with honey. Serve immediately.

Serves 4 to 6 as an appetizer.

that's definitely an interesting flavor combination with the apples and the chips and the gorgonzola but i think that it could work. i don't know if i'll be game to try making it myself but if it were offered to me - i would certainly try them.

Oh, yum. My grocery store sells a store-brand frozen pizza with this kind of topping on it and it is sooo good.

Mhmm, I love apples in both sweet and savory dishes. I think I'd make mine with my homemade pita chips though.

Ever since my last trip to Italy (sadly far too long ago), I have become more and more enamored of the combination of honey and cheese.

Oh great idea soapbox, these would probably be more healthy but just as tasty with whole wheat pita chips.

These do sound delicious. I like the idea of using pita chips instead.

Mmmmm... I've been craving apples and cheese for about a week now. I'm officially motivated to go shopping, can't wait to try this.

Yum! I love this flavor combo but I would have never thought to put it on nachos.

Mmmm... this sounds like it would be really great with pears in place of the apples. I am a HUGE fan of the pear/gorgonzola combination!
