On tonight's episode of Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern the host heads to Sicily where he is greeted by a variety of odd foods, including sardine meatballs, artichoke ice cream, and cow spleen sandwiches.
The spleen is boiled in a vat of fat before being topped with cheese and tucked inside two slices of bread. Although the word spleen sort of grosses me out, I'm adventurous and would love to try the sandwich. How about you?
Watch the video and let me know, would you eat a spleen sandwich?

I'm a vegetarian and have been for about 10 years, but I would have never eaten that! Ew!
1aside from being a vegetarian, i don't think that i'd be able to eat that anyway. there are limits to how adventurous i would be and that would push me way too far. i'm glad that he's gutsy!
2yuck, no thank you
3GOd that looked so good, cooked in Lard, Yes thank you.
4Sure. I like organ meats, actually.
5I respect you Jude, therefore I will stop myself from using that phrase to my advantage.
6I've just realized how vulnerable I've made myself by using that phrase, CG
7I LOVE this show. My boyfriend and I watch it all the time. I might have tried that if you didn't tell me what it was. I definitely won't try it now after he described how it tasted and it didn't sound very pleasant.
Jude C: Oh darn guess it's too late for a "that's what she said" comment.
8It's never too late for one of those, SATClover!
9The key here was when Andrew said "It is not for the faint of heart". After all he has eaten, I will take his word for it.
10NO. I have a thing about spleens.
11no organ meats for me! gah!
12Hell no!
13eww, i just watched that episode. no way!
14No. I wouldn't eat a spleen sandwich.
15EWWWWW!
16Why are those jerks trying to serve parts of the animal you're supposed to throw away?
I haven't liked any of the inner parts of animals that I've tried, but I'd at least try a bite of this. (I almost fell into the same trap Jude and said "organ meats" but I caught myself...lol)
17Oh my goodness. This is almost as bad as the placenta patties. What is WITH people today? No. No no no. I'll stick to my regular meats. You know. Ham. Turkey. Roast beef. TOFU. Jeez louise!
18Puddlesworth, Well those "jerks" are using every part of the animal they can to not be wasteful, unlike alot of people in this country.
19I'm an omnivore but I shun organ meat so no.
20I agree, CG.
21It`s great that I found this story..I am a Brooklyn born Italian. My Father, also born in Brooklyn NY was a 1st generation American. There was a little Italian diner I believe on Court street Brooklyn,,heavy Italian,Italian American(where "Moonstruck"takes place). I heard so much about "Visteede"sandwich. Ok Americans,,a "Speeeeleen" sandwich, I had to try it If I didn`t like it I could always eat a riceball. Well!! the 1st time I tasted it I almost puked,,seriously. Dry heave! But,I wanted to taste it again next time, and became, well, not addicted, but very much attached too,the same way we get attached to chicken wings. I`m not sure if you still can buy the sandwich in the states made with spleen. I think they now use the lung or heart. I`ve replaced spleen with roast beef, grated parmagiano and ricotta,,bake it on a sesame bun.(as they baked it in that Brooklyn diner)ok ,,not as exotic or sexy, but good...well,OK..
