Yesterday Mario Batali and Gwyneth Paltrow were featured guests on The Oprah Winfrey Show. The celebrity chef and actress promoted their food-related travel series, Spain . . . on the Road Again, which debuts Sept. 20 on PBS. Gwyneth and a newly slimmed-down Mario each shared five kitchen items they can't live without. To find out what they were, read more.
Mario Batali loves:
- His Kitchenaid pasta-maker attachment
- His home cured olives
- His microplane
- Extra virgin olive oil
- His nesting mixing bowls for the perfect mise-en-place
Gwyneth Paltrow loves:
- Her steamer
- Global knives
- Cast iron skillets
- Her digital timer
- Her wine sealer
What are your kitchen must haves? Will you watch Spain . . . on the Road Again this weekend?

4I thought Gwyneth does the Raw Food thing...
5I think before she had her first child, Gwyneth was on a strict macrobiotic diet of some kind. It is strange to see her hanging out with Mario Batali now.
6KitchenAid Mixer (mine's lime green!)
Porcelain measuring cups from Anthroplogie
A nice cutting board
Wooden spoons and spatulas from Crate & Barrel
Barefoot Contessa cookbooks
A good quality goat cheese
7Can't stand Oprah, the others are okay though.
I am currently looking for a KitchenAid mixer to add to my could-not-live-withouts, but until then:
Wooden cooking spoons/spatulas
Magnalite pot
Stock pot
Good skillet
Knives
8I couldn't live without my:
Large non-stick pot
Small cutting board (I like being able to chop and take to the pot)
My roommate's Wusthof chefs knife (I so need my own when I move out)
Coffee maker
Cast iron skillet
9Le Creuset cookware
microplain
salt and pepper mills
meat sheers
good knives
10errr...microplane
11...and shears. I got a little flustered with that Gordon Ramsay picture!
12I'll watch it!
-Kettle
-Measuring cups
-Measuring spoons
-Microwave
-A small pan
13KitchenAid Standing Mixer... a gift from an ex, possibly the best gift I've ever received!
14i'm not surprised at all about those things - for mario - i feel like pasta is a staple in what he does since italian food is where he got his start, and for gwyn - the steamer makes a lot of sense.
for me - my must haves are my wine fridge and my cheese slicer. i can't live without either since i think that my diet is all about cheese.
15My bf and I watched this, and laughed the whole time. They showed GP in her exercise room, w/ apple orchards outside, and then they flip to her and MB cooking it up w/ OW. Oh, too much celebrity to handle.
16My five most necessary kitchen items are:
-Silicon spatula flipper things
17-Calphalon nonstick skillets
-Small white plastic cutting board
-Garlic
-Santoku!
My must have's:
Henckels knife set
18Salt pig
Blender
Rice cooker
My library of cookbooks
