A save-the-date card is a non-traditional wedding reminder that lets guests know the date of an upcoming marriage far in advance. Generally the cards are sent six months to a year before the wedding, before the real invitations are mailed. There are plenty of beautiful store made save the date cards out there, but you can do it yourself if you let your inventive imagination go creatively wild. Magnets have become very popular within the last few years and a helpful reminder that your guests will look at daily. Bookmarks are my favorite: create a small document with a calendar, the date circled in red and the bride and groom's names, and "invitation to follow". Incorporate a gorgeous silk string to show that you are tying the knot.

Another simple do-it-yourself option is to print out save the date labels and send these to guests and ask them to place the sticker on their calendar on the date of your wedding. Get as creative as you like, small bottles filled with confetti to symbolize a celebration or a map to remind guests your wedding is at an exotic destination are original ideas. Like all of the wedding stationery you style as a couple should be reflected in the save-the-date card.

1I did the magnet idea simply becuz it was cheap and easy!
2I think we are going to do magnets -- too many to send out to think about making them by hand, plus I just don't have the time. We want to get them out soon since we are getting married over a holiday weekend and several of our guests have requested at least a year's notice.
3Magnets are a great way to go, julieulie! I just bought some business cards that fit the size of the magnets and printed out the Save the Date notice. Turned out great!
4ALSW - where did you go to do the magnets? or did you do them yourself? I like that idea.
5My cousin just got married and they did the whole magnet save the date - they had theirs made at Magnetstreet.com. They turned out very cute. I think the magnets are a great idea because you'll see the reminder everyday.
6My friend did the magnet for her October wedding. It's super cute.
7I am doing magnets as well... www.savethedateoriginals.com is the cheapest site I've found.
8I ordered their samples and those of other more expensive companies...same quality, half the price!
Another Magnet! My friend printed out really cute Save the date cards and attached them to magnets. As it turns out, its really inexpensive, you wont lose it and every time you go to your fridge, you see it!
9I'm sending out my magnets tomorrow! We got ours at magnetqueen.com. They have cute options for incorporating your own pictures and we ordered them when they were having an online sale, so we got a pretty decent price. We put labels on the back that direct guests to our website too, so they can check out accommodation and registry info.
10My fiance and I had pictures made "photo booth style", where in each frame we held up a sign that read in each frame
