So you're getting ready to plan your dream wedding and now you're trying to figure out what to do for your perfect dinner? Do you have a traditional sit-down meal? Or how about a standard buffet? Or perhaps an in vogue station buffet? There's a lot to decide, but to help you get started, I thought I'd let you know more about each kind.
Sit-Down
A traditional sit-down meal is one where everyone is seated at tables and the servers bring the food out to them. In traditional weddings, guests will have already pre-selected their entree. In various cultures, such as a Chinese wedding, the food comes out in courses and is shared family style.
Traditional Buffet
A buffet style meal is exactly what it sounds like. Guests receive a plate and then make their way down the line, filling their plates along the way.
Station Buffet
A station style buffet is one where the food is spread out in different "stations" around the room. There may be one area that is a carving station, a pasta station, an hor d'ouevre station, dessert station, etc. This is done for several reasons: one it prevents a long line from forming at the buffet table and two it encourages mingling amongst your guests. They can grab a few things at one station, eat them, head back out for more and run into a whole new group of people that time.

Comme des Garcons
gah! i hate those chinese traditional weddings! everyone comes late and its so awful and draggy!
1lol, nothing compared to an african wedding!
2Its like this place, they open it up and everyone fromj the streets get ina nd stuff for free food. The food is all in these plastic tubs! its disgusting, never again
are you serious soup?! LOL good experience tho! at least now you knw what its like
3I went with a buffet and thank goodness! Too many picky eaters (myself included) in my family. Vegetarians and meat and potato only people. Buffet makes sense to me!
4We didn't do any of that...we had a dessert reception! We made sure to let our guests know so they could eat dinner before the ceremony (it was later)and we served a light dinner to those at the church.
We had a buffet table filled with our yummy cake (our focal point), chocolate dipped strawberries, lemon bars, mini pastries, fruit, and a few other sweet goodies. It was so much fun, it fit us perfectly, and all of our guests loved it.
5I've always liked to have the dinner served to me while I'm sitting. I'm not crazy about the buffet idea. We went with the traditional sit down dinner.
6I think I'll go with a buffet when my time comes. I don't picture myself, my boyfriend, or any of our friends and family sitting down all quiet and structured and...well...traditional!!! we certainly aren't any of those things. My dad's side of the family are all chefs and my dad is big into bbq so I think at my wedding, I want them to make the menu.
7A dessert buffet! What a great idea, bfly1133!
8If anyone is interested in planning a dessert reception I recently outlined a fabulous party plan for one.
9Thanks AL! We had a Hollywood Glamour theme and we thought it was perfect for it. It was also less expensive than doing dinner and we aren't fans of eating really heaving late at night. We had a few people bad mouth the idea at first, but when they saw it play out they changed their minds!
10we had a huge coctail hour with stations, carving, sushi, italian with passed wh*res ovaries. then the dinner started with lobster bisque, salad and then choice of filet, halibut or roasted chicken. there was a penne ala vodka for vegeterians./
11We couldn't decide on a buffet or sit-down, so we're having a family-style meal. It's a good compromise.
12I think a lot of people like to bad mouth the less traditional ideas, bfly, but I'm glad that you went with it and everyone loved it anyone! Sounds delicious...
13I can't decide on a buffet or sit-down either. I'm a pretty classic/formal person and I love the idea of a sit-down BUT I would like my guests to have some variety in case they don't like what we're serving.
14I like the buffet idea...
