Killer App: Grape Goat Cheese Crostini

I have a weakness for crostini. I simply can't get enough of the thin, crisp toasts with savory toppings. Since I jump at the chance to try a new variation, I recently made this easy, vegetarian crostini recipe. The ingredients are ordinary — baguette, grapes, and goat cheese — but the results are divinely delicious. The superb balance between the crunchy bread, juicy grapes, and creamy goat cheese is rich and luxurious. This dish proves that simple food can be incredibly satisfying — especially if served with a glass of bubbly on the side! To learn how to make this killer appetizer, read more.

Grape Goat Cheese Crostini

Ingredients

1 sourdough baguette
Extra virgin olive oil
Freshly cracked black pepper
8 ounces soft fresh herbed goat cheese
1-1/2 pounds assorted grapes*

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Holding knife at a slight diagonal, cut 16 1/3- to 1/2-inch thick slices from baguette.
  3. Brush the top of each with a generous amount of olive oil and sprinkle with freshly cracked black pepper. Arrange on rimmed baking sheet.
  4. Bake until beginning to brown, about 10 minutes. Cool on sheet for at least 15 minutes.
  5. Spread each crostini with goat cheese.
  6. Cut about 50 small grapes in half; scatter on crostini.
  7. Arrange crostini on platter. Surround with remaining grape clusters.

Makes 16 crostini.

*I used only one variety.

even a green apple... a tart one like granny smith would be delish! i love a little sliced fresh fruit on my cheese plates! this looks like a perfect way to combine what i put separate.

oooh i love this! i've never thought to pair goat cheese with grapes and that's a nice combination i think - you get the sweetness from the grape which balances out the flavor of the goat cheese. i've always paired it with granny smith apples but this is a nice alternative!

This looks good, but I don't eat cheese. I avoid anything with saturated fat.

yum! I have guests coming over in an hour. I'm going to try this on cracked pepper water crackers. I'm sure it will taste great.

These look yummy and pretty. I'd probably pick the grapes off and eat them separately. I'm weird in that I don't really like fruit mixed with other food.

I bet a creamy Swiss cheese would be good, too, if anyone doesn't like goat cheese.

Yum! Or even for Thanksgiving try it with dried cranberries! I think the fresh goat cheese (Chavrie) would be best!
