The other day I was in a meeting and somehow we started talking about mayonnaise and its likeability level. DearSugar confessed that she's not a huge fan and several others stated that they found the condiment down right disgusting. When it was my turn to speak in a voice barely above a whisper I said, I actually really like mayonnaise and it's because I do! Homemade mayonnaise is absolutely wonderful -smooth and creamy and easily enhanceable. Simply put, mayonnaise is a homogeneous mixture of egg yolk and oil - two incredibly common ingredients that are seriously low on the nasty scale. The way that I see it is you either like mayo or you don't and I'm wondering if I'm the only one who likes it on sandwiches and with calamari and French fries...so, do you like mayonnaise?

Givenchy
Taschen
Alessi
I hate it so bad that I won't even use it to put on other people's food! lol It's got a gag-me factor for me just by looking at it.
1I can't eat mayo because it makes my yummy all funny!
2Oops! It was supposed to read "my tummy all funny." Silly me.
3i love it, but i tend to like creamy condiments alot...i put ranch on almost everything.
i also read somewhere that alot of mayo is made with soy bean oil and that its a good fat. so thats my excuse.
4One of the few foods I hate.
5i LOVE mayonnaise!
6pretty much on anything... NOT EVERY THING though
hehe
i hardly ever have mayonnaise because its so fatty.
i love adding it in with my tuna and cole slaw of course!
I don't buy it becaue i over do it, but I LOVE mayo. it is the perfect addition to a sandwhich, eggsalad, tuna, chicken salad, potatoe salad...mmmmm...and, it makes a yummy 'special sauce' to dip fries in when you mix it with kethup. but, like i said, i don't buy it or use it anymore, but if i go out and there is mayo on the burger or sandwhich, i don't say no

Why don't you wear the face you have when I am not around?
Great on sanwhiches, burgers and deviled eggs- and crucial in potato salad. There is a Mayo/vs. Miracle Whip ongoing battle in my family and at gatherings, when potato salad or deviled eggs are present, whoever makes them, knows to make one of each batch. Personally I prefer light mayo either way.
8I dont like --------
garry the soul of internet....
9i think the only mayonise il hav is helmans, do u get that in america?
10Oh man. I LOVE IT! On everything! I have loved it ever since I was a child when I called myself "mayonnaise."
11Yuck jsut teh thought of it the look texture taste and smell repulses me
TINA!
12I think it depends, sometimes it tastes like a flavorless blob of fat, others it is the most amazing condiment or dip ever!
I'm also in the Miracle Whip camp for salads, eggs, and sandwiches I must admit!
13I like mayo especially when its fresh (homemade) its really not that hard to make, and that way you controlle whats going in....
14I was born in Australia and lived there for half my life before moving to the UK, and then to Canada for work. I found that all Australian mayonnaise - unless homemade - tastes extremely vinegary, is somewhat chunkily textured, and is coloured quite a lurid, plastic-y yellow, so I was never a fan.
However, once tasting the joy that is an un-vinegared, pale cream coloured, smooth and rich mayonnaise (such as Hellmanns) I became addicted beyond measure. I will never have chips without it now, and I use it instead of butter on my sandwiches.
15i love mayo on french fries!!!
16hills - we have hellman's here, but it's really interesting/weird on the west coast it goes by the brand name "Best Foods" and on the east it's "Hellman's" not sure where the split happens or if there are towns where you can buy both...
17I hate to say it, but i am a mayo lover! and Best Foods is my favorite kind! its so versitile you can mix it with anything, as long as you dont over do it...
18I used to eat mayo sandwiches as a kid. There is nothing better on a sandwich than Mayo. I have tried to stop eating it though because it is so fatty. Yucko! It leaves big oil stains on paper plates and napkins.
BUT IT TASTES SOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!
19Love mayo! But for a healthier alternative I use a vegan alternative you can find at health food stores called veganase. Even though I'm not a vegetarian or vegan (love my meat) it's really really really good (I like it more than regular mayo). My fiance is hooked on it too. It's a little more expensive and I recommend trying the Veganase brand original formula it's way worth the money and you won't be grosed out by oil or too much fat.
20I don't mind it on sandwiches--has to be Hellmans though. I bought store-brand mayo once...ew. Just ew. Bad enough to almost turn me off for life.
My mom hates mayo so much she gags just thinking about it.
21I love it. I really dislike Miracle Whip, not that is truly evil
22I mean *now* not *not*. LOL
23i can handle mayonnaise in moderation. too much mayo on a sandwich can really ruin it.
24If I have mayo on a sandwich, it's like a thin scraping of it only ... I usually go w/o though.
25LOL. I'm picky with my egg yolk and mayo is definitely something I can't stand eating. And I was raised in Philadelphia, PA, where hoagies and chessesteaks are usually loaded with it. I put hummus on my sandwiches. And during barbeques/pinics, I would choke up at the sight of potato and macaroni salad. Mayo just doesn't do anything for me.
26I am a mayo lover but it must be REAL mayo -- Kraft, Hellmann's/BestFoods are the only brands I trust. None of that Miracle Whip crap. I also hate low fat mayo because it is all too sweet -- they replace the fat with sugar. Blech. Mayo should not be sweet.
I also never order mayo-based things (like egg salad) from a restaurant unless I know for sure it's made with real mayo. Most places use the sweeter stuff cause its cheaper.
27I think mayo is a staple for recipes but I prefer the taste of Miracle Whip. I can take it or leave it.
28i tend not to like mayo, especially when i think about it too much (raw eggs?!). I like spicy mayos. I just had a vegan version the other day and it was great. but spicy mayo dip and fries cant be beat.
29Yes, you CAN buy Helman's & Best Foods in the same place. I actually just bought a jar (at Target of all places) of Helman's for my Mom b/c she grew up with it. Best Foods/Helman's is the ONLY mayo I will use. I find that folks who don't like mayo like Miracle Whip. Which is really funny because Miracle Whip isn't mayo at all. I think it depends on what you gew up with though. I never had Miracle Whip until I was 18 and away from home.
30No, it grosses me out.
It's weird though, I can eat it in certain things..like potato
salad.
31I like it but i don't eat too much of it because it upsets my stomach.........
32oh i wish i hated it.
33I really don't like it and especially dislike it when it shows up on lunch without any other options. That's when I get upset, it should be on the side not on the sandwhich!
34Oh, and on a side note, I was making a red-white-and blue potatoe salad for 4th of July and tried to use yogurt as a mayonaise substitute. That's the day I will always remember that 1 substitution is ok but using vanilla yogurt to sub for plain to sub for mayo doesn't work.
I'm sure if I would have used plain yogurt it would have tasted great (with less food poisoning issues as well!)
35I would like to say that mayonaisse itself does not cause food poisoning. I had to take a food borne illness class for a previous job in food service. It is the bacteria in the food combined with the mayo. Mayo itself will just spoil. Spoiled food doesn't make you sick, bacteria and other food borne bacteria is what makes you sick. and salmonella actually lives mostly on the outside of the egg shell.

I hate it and will actually tear out the bread on a sandwich that has touched the mayo. YUCK! I also won't eat potato salad or really anything that remotely looks like it might have mayo in it. Dijon mustard is much better and pretty much goes with everything - sandwiches, fries and you can make potato salad with vinaigrette. Yum and much less fat!
37Mayo grosses me out a bit...how it looks and what it's made out of but every now and then..I might spread on a THIN layer for a sandwich, but for the most part, if I'm eating out, I request no mayo.
38LOL @ Mamrosa. That is like when I was making a casserole and subbed sweetened condensed milk for that other eagle brand milk. Ewww gross.
39just reading the 'm' word makes me gag
40Oh, I love mayonnaise, although I try not to eat it too often. I usually buy the Japanese Kewpie brand - tasty! Especially love it mixed with a little ketchup when I eat fries.
41I hate mayo on sandwiches- it completely ruins the sandwich! In fact, I hate mayo except in egg salad or tuna salad.
42I love mayo. Mayo makes almost everything better. I make my own at home when i have the time, otherwise I only will eat Hellmans. Best Foods (even though it's the same company) tastes different to me. And people that like crap like Miracle Whip are weird.
43mmm i LOVE mayonnaise! my friends used to (and still do!) make fun of my love for it. at school, i would grab like 3 packets of mayo for one sandwich and they would always laugh at me. i know its not the healthiest food ever, but its just so good!
i'm not a fan of miracle whip though. has anyone noticed that it has a strangely sweet taste to it? or is that just me?
44It depends on the brand.
45I hate mayo. For some reason I like restaurant ranch dressing but other than that I won't eat anything made with it. No potato salad, pasta salad, nothing.
46Mayonnaise.....oh my, I can only shudder at the number of meals my nan used to make with mayonnaise in them. Hers was good, no doubt about it but she would always put too much in everything.
It became sort of disgusting and I don't use any mayonnaise in my own meals - a matter of personal choice, amount of calories and probably it wouldn't be a good addition to what I cook anyway. Only some salads and dishes are worth the effort but it's been a while since I cooked any..
47I will never give up mayo for as long as I live. In NJ, I used to request EXTRA mayo on my subs, and here in CA, Jack in The Box puts mayo on their burgers. Ahhhh, how can something so good be SO bad?!
48gah i actually DETEST IT!
unless they put only a reeaaaallly thin layer in a burger and cover up the taste with other condiments. i cant stand to actually taste the mayo EEK
49oh yeah, and i have a friend who eat it on its own by TABLESPPONS. gross or what?!
